In what has been a very busy week in terms of player movement, there is no news of any last-minute player withdrawals this morning. Graeme McDowell withdrawals from The Travelers Championshp after caddie test positive
Graeme McDowell will not play this week due to a positive COVID test by his caddie. McDowell himself has tested negative, but he will play it safe and sit out this week. At this time there has not been a field replacement announced to take the place of McDowell.
Playing Better Golf Right Now
McDowell has been very inconsistent over the last few years, but we are finally seeing some things click for him. He has made the cut in each of his last three starts, with a pair of top 20’s included in that mix. He has been one of the best short game players on Tour so far this season, ranking 16th in putting for the 2018-2019 year. The price tag seems to be lagging behind his recent play, especially given the weaker field strength. McDowell posted top 15 finishes here in both 2016 and 2017, and a similar result this time around would more than pay off his cheap price tag.
Past major champion needs a good week in order to play in the FedEx Cup Playoffs
It's hard to believe that a player capable of winning a U.S. Open is in the position of needing a good week in order to secure a spot inside the top 125. Graeme McDowell will need a good week to avoid missing the FedEx Cup playoffs for the second time in the last three years. Since winning the U.S. Open McDowell has struggled to display the consistency needed to compete on the best tour in the world. An early win in the 2016 season allowed for McDowell to rebound from a dreadful 2015 season. Currently ranked at the 131st position in the FedEx Cup race, McDowell will need a solid week if he hopes to play his way into the FedEx Cup. The 2017 season has not been an overall bust for McDowell, in 16 events he has 4 top 25 or better finishes and has managed to only miss 5 cuts. Unfortunately for McDowell three of those missed cuts have occurred in his last three events. This crafty tour veteran has a lot to play for this week, and a deflated salary makes Mcdowell a very interesting GPP play. Tragerting players with the motivation of having to perform in order to move on can be a great angle to exploit over the next few weeks. Foreign players typically go undrowned, and McDowell has enough upside to make headway as a low owned tournament flyer. McDowell tied for 5th at last year's Wyndham Championship.
Puerto Rico Open weather update: manageable winds, passing showers
RotoGrinders Chief Meteorologist Kevin Roth ventured beyond his usual forecast range for a look at the Puerto Rico Open. Overall, weather patterns still look wet but the winds should remain manageable. Winds look to stay in the 5-10mph range with a low chance of rain on Thursday morning. Rain chances increase on Thursday afternoon via a few passing showers. Thursday PM winds pick up a bit but should consistently remain near 10mph. Round two weather looks similar but with increased chances of rain late Friday morning and throughout Friday afternoon. Winds remain manageable on Friday. Rain chances increase further on Saturday.
