Ivan Provorov Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Slumping Flyers' blue liner worth a shot
Ivan Provorov is scoreless in eight consecutive games, but in a matchup against Toronto, a team which bleeds points to defensemen, Provorov is worth a shot as his price is hovering around $4,000. Still logging heavy minutes (25-plus minutes), Provorov seems good for a couple blocked shots and possibly finding the scoresheet in this high-event matchup with the Maple Leafs who are allowing 3.26 goals per game since the All-Star break.
Increased minutes for young defenseman?
At the time of writing this, we do not know the status of Shayne Gostisbehere who was a late scratch against the Winnipeg Jets last night. If Ghost misses again, Ivan figures to be in line for a heavier workload as last night he logged his second most ice time of the season (28:03). Even if Ghost suits up, Provorov is a nice play on this short slate which lacks the usual top blue liners. Ivan has been a big disappointment this season, but the matchup against the Rangers is one to exploit.
Get right matchup for Philadelphia blue liner
Ivan Provorov, and the Flyers in general for that matter, have been an utter disappointment this season, but a closer look reveals they actually are not playing that bad - they've just been a victim of poor goaltending and a bit of misfortune. After setting a career-high with 41 points last season, Provorov has just seven in 23 games this season. In what boils down to the ultimate "get right" game for the Philadelphia Flyers, everyone is in play. Provorov, who is moderately priced on DraftKings ($4,500) and FanDuel ($4,900) is one way to gain exposure to the team with the highest implied goal total on the slate. In three meetings during the 2017-18 season, against a better version of this generous Senators' team, Provorov potted two goals. Fire him up in all formats.
Flyer defenseman's price has plummeted due to slow start
Ivan Provorov has not done much yet this season despite logging 25-plus minutes per contest, and as a result, his price has dropped. While he does not see time with the Flyers' loaded top power play unit, he skates with Shayne Gostisbehere at even strength. Provorov has a bright future in the National Hockey League and can contribute with points (41 in 82 games last season) as well as blocked shots as he averaged just over two blocked shots per game last season. The Sharks preseason woes have carried over to the regular season as yesterday they were clobbered by Casey Cizikas, Matt Martin and Scott Mayfield. Provorov checks in at a reasonable $4,500 on DraftKings and $5,000 on FanDuel. If looking for a bit of salary relief from the top blue liners tonight, Provorov is a strong option.
Increased Role Likely for Provorov Makes Him a Bargain
With Shayne Gostisbehere expected to sit out for the Flyers tonight, the world is now Provorovs oyster. Or, at least the Philly blueline is. Provorov has really been coming on of late and an increased role on the team will only enhance his upside. He remains a nice floor play, too, given his time on ice and ability to generate (and block) shots. Though New Jersey is a good defensive team on home ice, these divisional games always have the ability to get wild. In any event, Provorov should easily pay off his mid-tier price tonight.
Sophomore defenseman looks to shake the cold
A five game slump has sent Provorov's salary to its lowest point of the season, and now is an excellent time to take advantage as the Philadelphia Flyers will host a Detroit Red Wing team that played last night. While Provorov is not on the top power play, he logs huge minutes for the Broad Street Bullies. After a nine game losing streak, the Flyers have turned it around in December, picking up six wins in eight contests. Provorov has not had a multi-point game in over a month, but he stills racks up the fantasy points due to his shot-blocking. Additionally, Provorov averages over two shots on goal per game. With most gravitating to Shayne Gostisbehere, Ivan emerges as a worthwhile tournament pivot at his salary-saving price.
Multi-Point Potential on the Blue Line
The Pittsburgh Penguins are another team we can attack tonight. Pittsburgh remains a defensive liability, thanks to their weak possession game (24th in both CA/60, and HDCA/60), and the amount of scoring chances they allow (29th in SCA/60).The Penguins are also the National Hockey Leagues second-most penalized team, and they have struggled mightily when short-handed (24th ranked penalty kill). This brings out attention to the Philadelphia Flyers offensive defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Ivan Provorov. Both blue liners see plenty of ice time at both even strength and with the man advantage. With that being said, Gostisbehere is the top play here in all formats, with Provorov making a solid contrarian play in GPPs.
Philly defenseman still flying under-the-radar
The Flyers may have dropped six consecutive games (three of which came in overtime/shootout), but Ivan Provorov is riding a three game point streak which has seen him pot two goals and two assists. Ivan's price is affordable across the industry and the matchup is not as bad as it would seem on the surface. In November, the New York Islanders have allowed the second-most goals per game (3.44) in the National Hockey League. Provorov logs big minutes for Philadelphia and can contribute even when he does not find the scoresheet. Fire him up, especially in tournaments.
Bargain price-tag still attached to this talented defenseman
Provorov has been eerily quiet lately (no points in five games during the month of November) but that cold streak has held his asking price down. Despite the recent slump, the former first-round pick still owns a very respectable two goals and six assists in 17 games this season. He's locked into nearly 25 minutes of ice-time per game and is currently third in the entire NHL in blocked shots. With key power-play minutes awaiting him tonight, he's a strong bet to exceed value at this price.
Broad Street Bully blue liner in line for big game
Shayne Gostisbehere is expected to return tonight for the Philadelphia Flyers which dents Provorov’s value a bit as he was getting run on the top power play unit, but Ivan is still an excellent option to save salary on defense tonight. The sophomore defenseman has logged 27-plus minutes in each of his last four games and has already potted two goals on the season. Colorado has won two in a row, including last time out when they allowed a staggering 60 shots on goal to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Avalanche have always struggled on the road, and although the Flyers can be tough to figure out sometimes as was seen in their struggle against the Coyotes or their surprise shutout in St. Louis, Provorov does a little bit of it all for the Broad Street Bullies.
