Jake Muzzin Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

New addition looks to make a splash against familiar foe

Jake Muzzin has not done much offensively yet for the Leafs, but there is no better time to produce against a Ducks team surrendering far too many scoring chances for their own good. Not only will Muzzin see power play time on the second unit, he will also skate on the top pairing with Morgan Rielly who is in the midst of a fantastic 2018-19 campaign. If you cannot quite get to Rielly tonight, Muzzin is a great option to save some money given the Ducks' woes at even-strength.

Kings' blue liner posted a point in all eight January contests

Jake Muzzin was pointless last time out as the Kings and he were blanked in Nashville, but that should not be too surprising as the Predators are an elite team, especially on home ice. The pointless outing for Muzzin was his first since December 30th in Vancouver. After all, Muzzin manufactured a point in all eight January games, collecting two goals and six assists in the process. While he hasn't posted a multi-point game in almost two months, Muzzin is affordable across the industry and makes for a solid play in cash games if looking to save a little. Furthermore, Muzzin will take on the National Hockey League's worst team as the Arizona Coyotes are in town, likely without starting netminder Antti Raanta. Jake's upside has been relatively limited, but if there is any night for him to break loose for a multi-point night, it will be tonight against the disastrous Desert Dogs of Arizona.

This Los Angeles defenseman produces across the board

On the better high floor players in DFS that is usually a pretty cheap option based on his production is Jake Muzzin. He products offensively, picks up a bunch of shots and blocks as well. On the season has picked up 29 points, 104 shots and 91 blocked shots. The Los Angeles Kings are hosting the Arizona Coyotes tonight, a team with a 61.61 CA/60, fourth worst in the NHL. Although you are always looking for high-ceiling plays for tournaments, Muzzin still has that possibility with his blocks and shots totals and his position on the top power play unit. There are always opportunities for Muzzin to pick up some points and tonight's matchup is one of the best.

A fine Mid-Tier option on the blue-line

Kris Letang and Victor Hedman are my two preferred blue-liners this evening, but it's going to be hard to find the salary space to fit them into many lineups. Shifting down a price-tier, Jake Muzzin looks like a fine alternative. The big-man has posted a very respectable 19 points in 33 games this season and is locked into well over 20+ minutes on a nightly basis. He lines up alongside Drew Doughty on the point of the King's top power-play unit where he'll get a crack at an Islander's penalty kill that ranks dead last in the Eastern Conference (73.19%). Muzzin scored a goal against them in their first meeting this season and his high-floor makes him a fine target at this price-point.

This defenseman is almost always in play as he produces both offensively and peripherally

As mentioned, the Kings are in a pretty good spot offensively this year and against a team that has had their defensive woes masked by elite goaltending from Corey Crawford. Jake Muzzin is always in play because not only does he have 16 points in 27 games, which is a 48 point pace and would be a career best, he is a stud peripherally. He is averaging 2.04 blocks per game and 2.48 shots per game which help him get to 3.5 DraftKings points per game, the fourth best on the slate among defensemen.

This defenseman always goes overlooked but produces a high-floor with a good tournament ceiling as well

Both Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin are averaging 3.6 DraftKings points per game. However, Muzzin is priced at $4,900 which is $900 less than Doughty. Both Muzzin and Doughty play on the top power play unit, giving them plenty of offensive opportunity, but tonight I'm looking at Muzzin as he is cheaper. Doughty definitely has more offensive upside but with the peripheral's that Muzzin brings in his shot blocking capabilities as well as putting the puck on net, he always makes for a solid floor with upside kind of play. He has just 12 points in 22 games this season, but he is averaging 2.18 blocks and 2.68 shots per game, which is definitely something we like to see in case he doesn't get on the score sheet. However, I don't think Muzzin will have a problem with that tonight as the Kings are in Arizona tonight, a team that allows 60.78 CA/60 and 29.43 SCA/60, which are the sixth and ninth most in the NHL respectively.

This defenseman puts up solid numbers without just his offense.

Jake Muzzin does have some offensive ability in his game, but it's his peripheral stats that make him a great DFS play game in and game out. He has 12 points in 20 games this season, which is solid, but it's his blocks and shots on goal that increase his upside. He is averaging 2.1 blocks per game and 2.5 shots per game, which gives him am average of 2.3 DKpts as a floor, before factoring in his offence. Malcolm Subban is looking like he will be starting his first game off the IR, and while he was dominant in his first two starts, coming off the IR could be trouble against the Kings. Muzzin could also get on the scoresheet tonight giving him high upside for tournaments.

Under The Radar Second Line

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack tonight, look to the second line of the Kings, which features Adrian Kempe, Tyler Toffoli, and Tanner Pearson. Filling in for the injured Jeff Carter, Kempe has been a solid compliment to "That 70s Line" this season with seven points in his last 10 games. A matchup against a stingy Boston team may seem risky, but they have been dealing with several key injuries throughout their lineup and will be playing on tired legs following last night's 4-2 loss in Anaheim. With Anze Kopitar expected to take on Patrice Bergeron and Boston's top line for much of this game, look for the second line to carry the load offensively for the Kings in a game that LA should have no problems imposing their will offensively.

Blazing Blueliner Still Underpriced

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jake Muzzin was mentioned on 10/14 and 10/15 as the top value play on defense. Jake took five shots on goal last time out, tallying his first goal of the season. The night before that he took three shots on goal and found an assist. Further adding to Jake's value is his propensity to block shots as he also picked up six blocked shots in those two games. Tonight is another fine opportunity to take advantage of his price (FanDuel - $4,700, DraftKings - $4,500 and FantasyDraft - $9,100) as it has barely budged since mentioning Muzzin over the weekend. Montreal has looked miserable and in an unfavorable spot playing on consecutive nights. Jump on Jake once again as he aims to stretch his point streak to five consecutive contests.

Gettin' Muzzy Wit It - Pt. II

Jake Muzzin was recommended last night, and he did not disappoint. Jake stretched his point streak to three consecutive games. Muzzin has 12 shots on goal to go along with five blocked shots in four games for the Los Angeles Kings this season. The Kings are always a tough team on home ice, and they draw a nice matchup against an Islander team that has struggled on the road and is also playing on back-to-back nights. The Kings' depth from the blueline, namely Drew Doughty and Alec Martinez, can limit Jake's upside, but his price (FanDuel - $4,600, DraftKings - $4,400 and FantasyDraft - $9,000) is attackable in all formats.
