Cheap defenseman makes for low-owned flyer in tournaments
Though the Coyotes blue line is crowded with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Alex Goligoski, Chychrun stands out as a worthy punt option, particularly given the cheap price tag on FanDuel ($3,800). Chychrun has picked up a point in three of his last four games, taking nine shots on goal. In a 3-2 overtime win in Vancouver one week ago, Chychrun potted a goal on five shots. With the Canucks on a tail end of a back to back after playing in the thin Denver air last night, Arizona could be sneaky. Oliver Ekman-Larsson will likely see some traction given his price and coming off one of his strongest games of the year. Chychrun, who also sees top power play minutes, makes for a contrarian pivot.
Dirt-cheap defenseman frees up salary for stud forwards
With a number of stud forwards available on such a short slate, perhaps punting with one defenseman is the way to go, though it is hard to ignore the kind of floor and upside Mark Giordano and Dougie Hamilton in their mouth-watering matchup with the New York Islanders. Moreover, Kris Letang is a strong option given his role on a deep Pittsburgh offense. Yet, if looking to punt from the blueline, Jakob Chychrun makes a lot of sense, especially if Alex Goligoski misses again as Rick Tocchet will lean on Jakob to chew some extra minutes. Chychrun is even seeing time on the team's top power play unit which could exploit a Vancouver defense that allowed 3.43 goals per game last month. Even if Chychrun doesn't find the scoresheet, he showed last time out he can contribute with shots on goal (4) and blocked shots (2). At $3,600 on FanDuel and DraftKings, Jakob is worth consideration.
Exploit this historically bad home penalty kill
Most DFS'ers have been picking on the Edmonton penalty kill for weeks/months now, but those same users may not realize that the Oilers penalty kill sits at a laughable 58.5% this season at the Rogers Place. With that in mind, Jakob Chychrun looks to be a fine value option on the blue-line in all formats this evening. The 19-year-old was selected 16th overall in the 2016 draft and is looking more and more poised with the puck each passing month. He's may have posted just 11 points in 34 games this season, but he has grabbed the reigns as the point-man on Arizona's top power-play unit and is locked into 20+ minutes of ice-time per game
Blue liner on the rise takes on NHL's worst penalty kill
Not many people know about Jakob Chychrun, but he is a talented two-way defenseman on the rise. It is strange not to see Oliver Ekman-Larsson running the point on the Arizona Coyotes' top power play, but Arizona's struggles have opened the door for young Jakob Chychrun. Over his last seven games, Jakob has picked up four helpers, but what is most inviting about him is his shot volume as he has picked up 25 shots on goal during this stretch. Jakob will be thrilled to take on an Oiler penalty kill that has been bombarded all season long as their 71.4% kill percentage is by far the worst mark in the National Hockey League. Jump on Jakob tonight in this favorable home matchup.
