Hot Winger Looks to be Late Hammer
A lot of folks like to look for a late hammer and while Matthew Tkachuk or Elias Pettersson could certainly fit the bill you should probably look to another player for your consideration. With Anaheim playing in Los Angeles tonight you almost have to scour the Ducks roster to see if anyone there is remotely playable. Lo and behold we find Jakob Silfverberg. Not only did he rack up three points last night including the overtime winner against the Sharks, he also has collected seven goals and six assists over the last 12 games. The win was the team’s seventh over the last 11 games which would indicate they are playing for pride more than anything as Anaheim is on the verge of not making the play-offs this season. This is yet another match-up based play that could help you get the edge over your opponents in tonight’s contests.
This upcoming UFA is looking to finish the season strong
It is a two game slate, so that is why we have any consideration for the Anaheim Ducks. The "second" line is probably the one that is of a bit of interest with Devin Shore centering Rickard Rakell and Jakob Silfverberg. Silfverberg has 6 goals and 10 points in 11 March games for the Ducks, both of which lead the team. The Ducks are hosting the San Jose Sharks tonight — a team that is on the tail-end of a back to back and has been hit with a mixture of injuries and flu-bugs. Both Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski missed last nights game, along with Erik Karlsson. All of these missing players plus the fact that it's a back to back means the Ducks could be able to actually put up some goals.
Losers of 11 straight in desperate need of a spark
The Ducks did manage to grab a point in Winnipeg, one of the toughest venues, last time out but ultimately blew a late lead as Bryan Little buried the overtime winner. Jakob Silfverberg logged more than 20 minutes of ice time, skating with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell on the team's top line. While the matchup is not the most exploitable, Silfverberg has a cheap price tag across the industry in a game that will be overlooked, not only on the Ducks' side, but the Red Wings' side as well. Jakob makes for a low-owned tournament target.
Streaky shooter looks to stay hot in Pittsburgh
Jakob Silfverberg was held out of the scoresheet last time out, but the Ducks still upended the Blue Jackets 2-1 in overtime. Prior to that game, Silfverberg had picked up a goal in four consecutive games. Jakob has long been a victim of a low shooting percentage, but this season he's hitting at a nice clip (16.1%). The Penguins as a team have allowed 12 goals over their last three games, and though the Ducks are not the best offense, Silfverberg is someone who goes on streaks. At just $4,700 on DraftKings and $4,900 FanDuel, Silfverberg makes for a low-owned tournament option with upside.
This player makes for a contrarian play on a short slate
On a three game slate there is always some interest in being a bit contrarian to get lower ownership. While most will be targeting the Anaheim Ducks top line, going with the second line stack could provide a low-owned/high-upside tournament play. With Ryan Kesler back, the Ducks are getting their depth healthy again and the second line finally is usable. Jakob Silfverberg is in a good spot tonight as he lines up with Kesler and Andrew Cogliano. After a strong playoff performance in which Silfverberg scored nine goals and 14 points in 19 games, he has struggled a bit this season 11 goals and 23 points in 46 games. Tonight is a decent spot as the Ducks host the Los Angeles Kings who are on the tail end of a back to back against a Penguins team that they had 54.05% possession against. Although Cogliano doesn't see much power play time, a mini-stack of Silfverberg and Kesler is in play as they are paired up on the second power play unit.
"Shutdown" Line Role Reversal
After missing the most of the early season recovering from injury, Ryan Kesler is finally healthy and has been reunited with speedsters Jakob Silfverberg and Andrew Cogliano on Anaheim's second line. Not typically known for his offensive prowess, the gritty power forward Kesler has assumed a larger role in Anaheim's scoring attack over the past few seasons despite typically playing against the opposition's top scoring threats. Tonight will be a different story however, as Edmonton will likely deploy star forward Connor McDavid away from Kesler at even strength. This benefits Kesler and Anaheim's second line, who will likely take on Edmonton's second line which has struggled in their own zone this season. Also featured on Anaheim's top power play unit, Kesler and Silfverberg should get plenty of quality scoring chances on the man advantage against an Edmonton penalty kill that ranks dead last in the NHL this season.
Playoff sniper looking to turn his season around.
After scoring nine goals in 17 playoff games last season, Jakob Silfverberg has struggled to put the puck in the net this season with just one goal in 12 games, shooting a paltry 2.7%. His goal-scoring will certainly progress, as his career shooting percentage is 8.4% and we want to jump on him the game he does get going, not the game after. Tonight, the Ducks are home to the Predators who play a slow-paced game, allowing the second lowest CA/60 in the NHL. The Ducks second line is comprised of Silfverberg, Andrew Cogliano, and Antoine Vermette, and while they are on separate power play units, the stack has a lot of upside.
Poor shooting numbers provide value in winger
Jakob finally picked up his first goal of the season last time out. A career victim of a poor shooting percentage, Jakob figures to find more success in the future as only one of his 36 shots have found the back of the net now. Silfverberg has taken three or more shots in his last five games. He will be relied upon for scoring with various injuries across the team. Jakob and the Ducks draw a good matchup tonight against a Toronto team that has struggled defensively. Jakob should once again find three to four shots minimum, so his salary relief should be taken advantage of, even as a solo play in tournaments.
Tough luck so far for Swedish winger
Not finding the back of the net is all too familiar for Jakob Silfverberg. It is a problem that has plagued him throughout his career before finally breaking through last season. Jakob has 17 shots on five games but has yet to find a goal. A matchup with a road-weary Islander team playing on back-to-back nights could be the cure. Jakob Silfverberg is affordable across the industry, especially on FanDuel ($4,800) where is one of the top values along with Patrick Eaves ($4,300). Silfverberg's shot-making ability makes him a solid floor winger, and on this short slate, he could be the difference maker in tournaments.
Swedish sniper seeks first goal of season
It is surprising to see Swedish winger Jakob Silfverberg priced so low on FanDuel where he checks in at a salivating salary of $4,800. On DraftKings, he comes in a little more expensive at $5,800, but still a decent value, especially in tournaments. Jakob has just one point in three games this season, but last year he put forward his best campaign yet, recording 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists) in 79 games while averaging nearly three shots on goal per game. Moreover, Silfverberg was particularly potent at home where his shots on goal total ballooned to 3.4 per game. Jakob and the Ducks draw a good matchup tonight against Jaroslav Halak and a road-weary Islanders team. Jump on Jakob's excellent price on FanDuel in all formats tonight.
