Jakub Vrana Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Speedy Capitals' winger could thrive against sloppy defense
Jakub Vrana doesn't get the same ice time as some of his teammates, but he's been putting up decent shot totals with Evgeny Kuznetsov as his center. Last Saturday night in Ottawa, Vrana potted a goal on three shots. With the Senators back to back after giving up five unanswered goals to an average Islanders' offense, Ottawa will have their hands full with a Washington team that has won eight of their last nine contests. Vrana and his linemates make for an affordable secondary stack with considerable upside.
Going back to the well with sophomore Washington winger
Jakub Vrana is pointless in four consecutive games after scoring a goal in Pittsburgh, but during that time he has taken 13 shots on goal. The Czech winger is a bargain on both DraftKings ($4,600) and FanDuel ($3,700), though the price really stands out on FanDuel as a source of salary relief in all formats. With Alex Ovechkin certain to be popular, and for good reason, Vrana makes a shot-in-the-dark tournament pivot or compliment as a way of differentiating from lineups that will likely see the conventional Ovechkin / Kuznetsov / Stephenson stacks. Vrana's speed should be a factor in what looks to be the highest scoring game of this short Friday night slate.
Washington winger looking to build off rookie campaign
The point total for Jakub Vrana last season (27 points in 73 games) does not really do the young winger justice as he averaged just 12:30 of ice time. This season, Vrana has seen an increase in his ice time as he has averaged 15:34 through Washington's first five games. A closer look at the speedster last season reveals a respectable 1.61 points per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 along with a healthy 61.56% of his shifts starting in the offensive zone -- a team-high, even more than Alexander Ovechkin (58.21%) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (56.19%). Vrana is a reasonable $4,700 on DraftKings, and even cheaper value on FanDuel where he is just $3,700. Vrana is a suitable source to save salary in all formats as his speed can exploit the New York Rangers.
top point-per-dollar play on the slate?
The Toronto Maple Leafs fast paced, open style of hockey is exciting to watch and it has been quite effective in the win column, but it does leave them vulnerable to scoring chances and goals against. The Maple Leafs are still young and learning how to play defense, ranking 28th in GA/60, while allowing the third-most goals against per game (3.80). The Washington Capitals have one of the best offenses in the National Hockey League, and they should light the lamp several times tonight at Capital One Arena. Jakub Vrana has now scored in back-to-back games and he should continue to flourish skating alongside Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuzenetsov on the Capitals top line, while also seeing minutes on the teams number two power play unit. The 21-year-old Czech is underpriced across the industry, making him one of the top point-per-dollar plays on this 11-game slate.
Ovechkin's new wing-man
We've seen it over and over in years past; if you play alongside Alex Ovechkin, you're going to put up fantasy points. Enter Jakub Vrana who is slated to slot alongside Ovie and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the Capital's top forward line. Vrana flashed plenty of offensive upside in his limited time with Washington last season and the former 13th overall draft-pick has been an offensive force with the AHL's Hershey Bears the last two seasons. He'll also so a healthy dose of playing time with Washington's second power-play unit, which should bode well for him against an Erik Karlsson-less Senators squad tonight.
