Goalie Looks to Regain Form After All-Star Break
Jaroslav Halak was one of the best goalies in the NHL for the first few months of the season, but his play has faded in December and January. It's possible the All-Star break was just what he needed to reset. At home this year, he sports a 9-3-0 record and a 2.29 GAA. Tonight, he faces a Jets team on the second of a back-to-back and also struggled last night against the Flyers. I expect Halak and the Bruins to control the play and pick up a win at home.
Goalie Faces Depleted Opponent
I already liked Halak tonight, but the announcement of Taylor Hall's absence from the lineup for the Devils makes him a near auto-play for me. Hall leads the Devils in points and is their most dynamic playmaker. Even with Hall, the Devils are an average offensive team. Halak, meanwhile, has been outstanding at home with an 8-0-0 record, 1.74 GAA, and .945 SV%. He should have no issue getting the win tonight.
Top Goalie Tonight!
You are probably safe rolling out any of Jaroslav Halak, Devan Dubnyk, Corey Crawford or Ben Bishop tonight. All four goaltenders are in pretty good spots and should see 25-plus saves each on their way to getting the win, however with Bishop and Crawford being on the road, I think they are best reserved for tournament play. Which leaves us with Halak and Dubnyk for cash games and you can certainly make a case for both. At just $7,600 on FanDuel, Halak is the play. The Arizona Coyotes are the 29th ranked offense and they have the lowest implied goal total on the night. Halak is not elite and the New York Islanders are not a defensive powerhouse, but I think the win and 25 saves are a safe bet tonight. On DraftKings these two netminders are both $8,100, and with all things being equal, perhaps Dubnyk is the way to go, after all he is the better goalie. The Vancouver Canucks had a terrible time on offense in 2016-17 and they should struggle to score goals again this year. With the Wild allowing over 35 shots per game (35.5), Dubnyk could easily be the highest scoring goaltender on the night.
Tough spot for goaltender still gives him tournament upside.
This is far from an ideal spot as the NY Islanders are in Los Angeles on the tail-end of a back-to-back. However, Jaroslav Halak has looked decent this season. The Kings are producing 35 shots per game, while the Islanders have given up 34.4 shots per game. As long as Halak doesn't get lit up, he certainly has enough upside tonight as he should face plenty of shots to make up for any goals he allows. This is a tough spot, but if you're looking to save a bit of money in tournaments to load up on other offensive players, Halak is a decent play that should not kill your team.
Swedish sniper seeks first goal of season
It is surprising to see Swedish winger Jakob Silfverberg priced so low on FanDuel where he checks in at a salivating salary of $4,800. On DraftKings, he comes in a little more expensive at $5,800, but still a decent value, especially in tournaments. Jakob has just one point in three games this season, but last year he put forward his best campaign yet, recording 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists) in 79 games while averaging nearly three shots on goal per game. Moreover, Silfverberg was particularly potent at home where his shots on goal total ballooned to 3.4 per game. Jakob and the Ducks draw a good matchup tonight against Jaroslav Halak and a road-weary Islanders team. Jump on Jakob's excellent price on FanDuel in all formats tonight.
