Jason Witten Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (Ankle, Quad), WR Randall Cobb (Back), OT La’el Collins (Knee), OT Tyron Smith (Ankle) and CB Byron Jones (Hamstring) all Expected to Play on Sunday Night

This is huge news for the Cowboys, who should be at full strength offensively against the Eagles in a critical NFC East tilt on Sunday Night Football. With both OTs back, the entire offense should be more efficient. Check back for inactives about an hour and a half before this game starts to be sure none of these key players suffer any setbacks.

Zeke and Gallup are most affected by the surprising health of the Dallas offense. Elliot saw 28 carries and six targets last week since he had to be relied on more heavily with Cooper and Cobb hurt. Zeke can never be counted out to have a big game, but it seems less probable with his volume likely to decrease against a Philly defense that ranks second in DVOA vs. the run. Gallup was expected to be an excellent value play, but with Cooper back, his target projection will decrease tremendously. Gallup is still having an excellent 2019 campaign, meaning he should be considered for tournaments ranging from single-game to the main slate nonetheless. The pass-funnel Eagles defense has allowed the most FPs to WRs this season.

Old Man Value At TE

If you're looking for value at tight end this week, consider taking Jason Witten, who has taken on a larger role offensively in the absence of Ezekiel Elliott. A model of consistency throughout his hall of fame career, Witten leads all NFL tight ends in snap percentage this season, logging 98% of his team's offensive plays. Despite only recording four touchdowns last year, Witten was still a favorite target of Dak Prescott in the red zone where he ranked second among all NFL TEs in red zone market share. Taking on a familiar foe in the Giants, Witten has averaged 7.3 targets, 53.4 receiving yards, and has scored 14 touchdowns in 29 career games against New York.

Redskins CB Josh Norman limited Wednesday; LT Trent Williams didn't participate

It's the second limited practice of the week for Norman ahead of his rivalry game with Dez Bryant. If he's able to return, it would be a downgrade for the Cowboys receiver and quarterback Dak Prescott. Norman is PFF's 39th-ranked corner this season while teammates Quinton Dunbar and Kendall Fuller have exceeded him, check in at 20th and 10th, respectively. It appears Dunbar has surpassed Bashaud Breeland (84th) as he out-snapped him the past two games and he could remain in the starting lineup if Norman returns. As a team, the Redskins the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks but the fourth-fewest to receivers as they funnel receiving production to tight ends (third-most) and running backs (eighth-most receptions per game, second-most receiving touchdowns). That sets up an interesting spot for old-man Jason Witten, for those that trust 15th-year skill players near the halfway mark, and Ezekiel Elliott. Although Washington has limited RBs to the third-fewest rushing yards per game, they've also seen the third-fewest attempts and their defensive line is 23rd in adjusted line yards (per FO). Dallas is running the ball the ninth-most in the league (45.2%) and their offensive line is sixth. On the other side of the ball, Williams is tentatively expected to play. He's playing through a knee injury that will require offseason surgery, so he'll probably have a light practice schedule the rest of the way. He's PFF's 12th-ranked tackle.

Terrance Williams (ankle), Brice Butler (ankle), and CB Orlando Scandrick (hand) active Monday night, CBs Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) and Nolan Carroll (concussion) inactive

Darren McFadden is also inactive again, leaving Alfred Morris and Rod Smith with the backup running back duties. Dallas will be without two of their corners tonight when they take on the Cardinals, opening up an opportunity for Carson Palmer to emulate Trevor Siemian's success through the air in Week 2. They're healthier on the offensive side of the ball with Williams and Butler active. Cornerback Patrick Peterson is expected to shadow Dez Bryant tonight, which could cause the receiver some trouble. Through two weeks, Peterson has been in lockdown mode. Quarterbacks have only targeted his coverage six times and completed just two passes for 22 yards, although one of them was a touchdown for Marvin Jones. Peterson leads all cornerbacks by a mile in cover snaps per reception (43), per PFF. A tough matchup for Dez could lead to quarterback Dak Prescott firing towards Williams more often. In Week 1, when Bryant was under Janoris Jenkins' shadow, Williams led the team with 68 receiving yards. In both the first two games, tight end Jason Witten pulled down team-highs in receptions, and he's scored twice in a row. Arizona allowed tight end Jack Doyle to catch all eight of his targets for 79 yards a week ago. It's possible old man Witten continues to see a large market share and rides his hot start to the season.

Dak Prescott (ankle) will play Monday night

When asked about Prescott's ankle injury, Jerry Jones confirmed his quarterback will play Monday night against the Cardinals. He added there's a "good chance" cornerbacks Orlando Scandrick (hand) and Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) will be able to suit up as well. Prescott struggled against Denver's tough defense, throwing two interceptions. He peppered Dez Bryant with 16 targets but couldn't get in a rhythm; Bryant finished with seven catches for 59 yards, although he did pull down a touchdown. The receiver has had a very challenging start to the season, matching up with Janoris Jenkins in Week 1 and Aqib Talib and the Bronco's elite secondary in Week 2. Unfortunately, it doesn't get much easier this weekend when he'll square off against Patrick Peterson, who's only allowed two receptions for 22 yards this year, although he did let Marvin Jones score on him in Week 1. Old man Jason Witten could continue to benefit from Bryant's tough draw. He was second on the team with 13 targets and efficiently caught ten for 97 yards and a score against Denver. Last week, the Cardinals allowed tight end Jack Doyle to catch all eight of his targets for 79 yards. Witten will likely come with high ownership due to recency bias, but he should receive a solid market share again this week.

Terrance Williams (ankle) expected to play Sunday

Adam Schefter reports Williams is expected to play through his sprained ankle and questionable tag this afternoon. He's headed into the no-fly zone in Denver though, so he's not looking like a great fantasy target despite hauling in 6-of-7 targets last week and leading the team in receiving yards (68). He's going to see Aqib Talib the most. Among Week 2 starters, the cornerback has allowed the fewest fantasy points per route defended since 2016 (0.15) and a stellar catch rate of 52%. Facing a tough cornerback group last week, Dak Prescott targeted Jason Witten a team-high nine times and provided Ezekiel Elliott a career-high five receptions. Dallas was expected to use the running back more in the passing game this season and this is another great spot to follow through on that plan.

Terrance Williams and Brice Butler both dealing with ankle sprains

Williams will be limited in practice Wednesday while coach Jason Garrett will monitor Butler to determine how much he can participate. Williams led the team with 68 receiving yards against the Giants in Week 1 as Janoris Jenkins shut down Dez Bryant in shadow coverage. This week, Bryant won't face a shadow and should match up with Bradley Roby a decent amount in sets with at least three receivers. Roby earned a poor 36.7 PFF game-grade in Week 1 and finished with a 48.7 in 2016. However, in terms of limiting fantasy production, he was effective, permitting just 0.22 fantasy points per route defended. Dallas faced a tough set of cornerbacks last week, which encouraged Dak Prescott to target Jason Witten a team-high nine times and led to Ezekiel Elliott setting a career-high with five catches. A similar approach may be taken by the second-year quarterback this week.

A Possible Week 1 TE Pivot in GPPs

If you're looking to differentiate your lineup from the masses that will likely be rostering Zach Ertz this week, consider Jason Witten. A model of consistency throughout his Hall of Fame career, Witten led all NFL tight ends in snap percentage this season, logging 96% of his team's offensive plays. Despite only recording four touchdowns last year, Witten was still a favorite target of Dak Prescott in the red zone where he ranked second among all NFL TEs in red zone market share. Taking on a familiar foe in the Giants, Witten has averaged 7.25 targets, 53 receiving yards, and has scored 13 touchdowns in 28 career games against New York.

Dez Bryant active for Cowboys, as expected

Bryant (back) caught seven passes for 102 yards against the Redskins in Week 2. Josh Norman didn't shadow him in that game though, and Washington won't make the same mistake again. Expect Norman to follow Bryant when he lines up on the outside, which is about 80% of the time. Terrance Williams has a much more favorable one against Bashaud Breeland, who has a poor 46.4 PFF grade this season. Williams hasn't had more than three targets over the past three games, but Dak may give him more opportunities if Norman shuts Bryant down. In that scenario, Cole Beasley and Jason Witten will see an uptick in targets as well.

Dez Bryant unlikely to play Sunday

This has been the sentiment most of the week, but the Cowboys haven't been divulging much information. Brice Butler figures to start on the outside yet again, with Jason Witten, Cole Beasley and Terrence Williams also likely to see an uptick in targets. Butler is the most intriguing play as far as the WRs go, as he saw nine targets last week and was also utilized a few times in the red-zone. Jason Witten saw an increased target total as well, but his looks have been all over the map since a huge effort in Week 1. Witten is still third among TEs in percentage of workload, so there is GPP appeal.
