Jedd Gyorko Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Ty Blach has a 0.8 K-BB%, 9.86 DRA and .394 xwOBA

Camden is nowhere near Coors in terms of run environment, but it’s still a significant upgrade for the Dodger offense and Baltimore pitching may make it feel like Coors. Ty Blach has allowed 30 ERs and six HRs in just 24.2 innings this year, sporting a 0.8 K-BB% and xwOBA above .390. His 9.86 DRA is just a run below his ERA (10.95). This, despite having allowed just 5.6% Barrels/BBE on 42% 95+ mph EV and just a 36 GB%. In other words, this could be even worse. While the Dodgers are certainly more potent against RHP, a common misconception is that they aren’t a good offense against LHP and nothing could be further from the truth. They have the ninth best wRC+ in the majors against southpaws (105) with a 9.4 BB%, 17.8 HR/FB and 28.2 Hard-Soft%. The Dodgers are implied for 6.58 runs tonight, which is the second best total on the board and only one outside Coors above six runs. Batters from either side of the plate are smashing Blach for a wOBA and xwOBA above .380 this season and RHBs are above a .340 against him for his career. Key bats are certainly A.J. Pollock (148 wRC+, .185 ISO vs LHP this year), Justin Turner (141 wRC+, .297 ISO) and Cody Bellinger (154 wRC+, .329 ISO). For others, including David Freese (133 wRC+, .256 ISO), Will Smith (91 wRC+, .239 ISO), Enrique Hernandez (102 wRC+, .176 ISO), Chris Taylor (126 wRC+, .280 ISO) and perhaps Jedd Gyorko, who hasn’t played much this year, but costs the minimum on FanDuel ($3.1K on DraftKings), it would probably depend on where they ended up in the order.

Pitcher with declining peripherals may offer an edge

Possibly the result of injuries over the last couple of years, Madison Bumgarner is not what he was. A great park and 3.14 ERA do well to hide the decline, but his SIERA is 4.49 and his xwOBA is .331, which are not bad, but not better than average. St Louis is also a negative run environment, but they have a predominantly RH lineup and this is a spot where players can look for an edge if others will refuse to go against Bumgarner's name value with the Cardinals implied for just 4.21 runs. While RHBs have just a .305 wOBA against him this year, xwOBA drives that up 47 points. That's because both the hard hit and ground ball rates are 42%. Two batters, specifically look interesting tonight, right in the middle of this lineup. Both Marcell Ozuna (134 wRC+, .216 ISO vs LHP this season) and Jedd Gyorko (154 wRC+, .230 ISO) have done extremely well against southpaws this season. Both are hitting the ball well currently too. Only Paul DeJong (80 wRC+, .165 ISO) is above $4.2K on DraftKings among RHBs.

Lefty mashing lineup against lefty who often gets mashed

Tommy Milone has had an interesting changeup this year, thrown about 40% of the time to RHBs through three starts with a 41.5% whiff rate. He also threw 39 fastballs to right-handed Braves last time out and three of them left the yard. Despite the success of that pitch, RHBs still have a .437 wOBA against Milone since last season and even though xwOBA drops that 90 points, .347 is still not an enviable number. The Cardinals have three RHBs who have hammered LHP in varying sample sizes over the last calendar year in Jose Martinez (164 wRC+, .230 ISO), Jedd Gyorko (185 wRC+, .291 ISO) and Harrison Bader (166 wRC+, .266 ISO). Competent or better bats against southpaws with more advantageous lineup positions include Matt Carpenter (130 wRC+, .267 ISO) from the left side, along with Yadier Molina (105 wRC+, .191 ISO), Marcell Ozuna (123 wRC+, .169 ISO) and Paul DeJong (90 wRC+, .184 ISO). The Cardinals, as a team, have a 16.7 HR/FB against LHP despite the power suppressing park and Tommy Milone is a fly ball pitcher. The Cardinals could go under-owned with three or four teams above their 4.56 implied run line.

Terrible park, solid contact manager, but some great bats vs LHP

Each of the eight batters in the St Louis lineup have at least a 108 wRC+ against LHP over the last calendar year with only cleanup hitter Marcell Ozuna (118 wRC+, .158 ISO) below a .200 ISO. That's some proficiency against a southpaw who has allowed a .350 wOBA to RHBs since the start of last season. Howeve,r they have just a 4.44 run line for a reason. Wei-Yin Chen doesn't miss bats (16.9 K%), but manages contact fairly well (.318 xwOBA, 86.3 mph aEV, 5.2% Barrels/BBE this season). In fact, RHBs have just a .317 xwOBA against him since last season, 33 points below their actual mark. Miami also greatly suppresses power and is an extremely negative run environment. That said, Jose Martinez (163 wRC+, .230 ISO) and Jedd Gyorko (197 wRC+, .337 ISO) have been so good against LHP over the last calendar year at reasonable prices that they can't be ignored. And despite Chen's dominance of LHBs (.244 wOBA since 2017), perhaps Matt Carpenter (142 wRC+, .269 ISO) can't be either (269 wRC+, four HRs last seven days).

Plucking Out a Sneaky Stack

There aren't going to be many "sneaky" options on such a short slate, but the Cardinals might qualify as an under the radar GPP stack. Kyle Freeland has solid surface numbers, but they are a bit of a mirage thanks to a .270 BABIP allowed. He's largely been lucky for much of the season, as his SIERA and xFIP are more than a run higher than his ERA, and he carries a below average strikeout rate. Jedd Gyorko specializes against lefties, so he is a great value part of any stack, while DeJong and Molina are next in line for me. Give the Cardinals a look as a strong GPP team on this slate.

Top projected lineup without an expensive bat

With the Red Sox, Yankees, Indians and game at Coors, it feels like the Cardinals (5.23) could be the forgotten offense among those above five implied runs tonight. After all, Carlos Rodon is not far removed from being a top prospect. Despite an 18.2 K% and 4.97 SIERA, he does have a respectable .332 xwOBA this year. The problem with this theory is that the other offenses are all high priced, which will be difficult to combine with high priced pitching. The Cardinals offer a top projection with nobody above $4.1K on DraftKings or $3.4K on FanDuel. RHBs have a .331 wOBA and xwOBA against Rodon since last season with LHBs just 17 points lower. Matt Carpenter (106 wRC+, .188 ISO vs LHP last calendar year) certainly stays in play here for less than $4K. Tommy Pham (121 wRC+, .158 ISO), Jose Martinez (192 wRC+, .302 ISO) and Jedd Gyorko (181 wRC+, .297 ISO) are top values tonight.

Sticking With The Savings

I'll likely have a couple Cardinals bats in most of my lineups tonight against the still shaky Carlos Rodon and this beatable White Sox bullpen. On FanDuel, all the St. Louis bats are cheap, while on DK I lean towards the multi-position eligibility of Jedd Gyorko along with Marcell Ozuna as the affordable options. Gyorko leads the team with a .296 ISO against lefties leads the team and a low 14.5% strikeout rate and 48% hard hits.

Some Necessary Value

I don't love picking on Carlos Rodon, but he hasn't been completely sharp since returning from injury, and we don't have a lot of value out there tonight. The Cardinals still check in as affordable options, with guys like Marcell Ozuna carrying mega cheap price tags, and Jedd Gyorko should be in there with his power upside against left-handed pitching. We also get the benefit of an underwhelming and tired White Sox bullpen after the Cardinals scored 14 runs on Tuesday. There's certainly potential here, and you can fit a Cardinals stack in a lineup with the likes of Chris Sale this evening.

Hard-Hit Rate Through The Roof

Brent Suter has a .334 wOBA with a .208 ISO against right-handed hitters this season. He throws a lot of strikes and doesn't walk a lot of guys. With that high ISO, I'm looking to attack him on a slate with limited hitting options. Jedd Gyorko has a .333 ISO with a .467 wOBA against lefties this season, and he also has a 51.7% hard-hit rate against LHB. I really like the upside for the Cardinals tonight, and it doesn't seem like anyone is talking about them.

Cardinals offer a high value leadoff bat with one of the highest implied run lines on the board

The first seven batters in the St Louis lineup will be right-handed against Eric Lauer on Wednesday, which means no Matt Carpenter, but an affordable Harrison Bader (186 wRC+, .327 ISO vs LHP last calendar year) in the leadoff spot against a pitcher who has allowed RHBs a .409 wOBA (.371 xwOBA) and 42.6 Hard%. Lauer walked seven batters in his last start and has just two starts (out of nine) with more than five innings, just three with fewer than three runs. The San Diego bullpen behind him has been over-worked, having thrown the entire game on Tuesday and has suffered in quality over the last month. The Cardinals have a 4.9 implied run line near the top of the board. Jose Martinez (209 wRC+, .354 ISO) and Jedd Gyorko (202 wRC+, .357 ISO) have been flat out destroying LHP with the latter owning an overall 378 wRC+ (68.2 Hard%) with five HRs over the last week.
