Jeff Petry Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Montreal Blue liner is a big bargain
Jeff Petry is not producing much, but it is hard to ignore his cheap pricing across the industry. Petry is still relatively affordable on DraftKings ($4,600), but his price stands out like a sore thumb on FanDuel ($3,700) where the price gap between a top tier defenseman like Mark Giordano is significant. Buffalo has allowed the most goals after the All-Star break, and while Montreal's forwards can be tough to peg down, production from the blue line is relatively consistent, despite Petry's relative slump. He's a nice cash game play at his current price tag, allowing one to grab an expensive forward or two.
Montreal blue liner draws strong matchup on home ice
While Jeff Petry is priced more appropriately on DraftKings ($5,000), his price really stands out on FanDuel ($3,900) where he is viable in all formats to free up salary for some star forwards. Petry's price has come tumbling as he has gone pointless in seven games this month, but if there were ever a time to get it going, it is in this high-event matchup with the Blackhawks. Petry continues to log solid minutes (22:00 post All-Star break) as well as power play time. Save some salary with Jeff.
Petry's salary could free up some cap space
The Montreal Canadiens have been able to score a few goals this season which has helped the team jump out to a 5-2-2 record. Another thing that has helped Montreal has been the play of defenseman Jeff Petry as he is not only filling in for the injured Shea Weber he has been productive while doing so. Petry has seen four of his nine points come with the extra attacker while firing off 16 shots on net. Unless you want to pay up for Kris Letang, Dustin Byfuglien or Morgan Rielly you are probably better off going with the cheaper Petry this evening.
Bundle of defensemen too cheap on FanDuel
It has become quite redundant pointing out the pricing flaws on FanDuel, but here we are again. All three of Henri Jokiharju, Max Lajoie and Jeff Petry have been hitting value, sprinkled with some upside. On DraftKings, each of these blue liners is appropriately priced, even excessively priced (Jeff Petry - $6,000), at the moment, but on FanDuel, this trio is all around $4,000 and have been there since the start of the season. While there is an opportunity cost implied, as it is one less spot for someone like Brent Burns or Erik Karlsson, all three make for cheap flyers in all formats.
Streaky Montreal blue liner is riding three game point streak
Montreal has been a mess all season long, but if there has been one positive to come of the Shea Weber injury, it's the production of Jeff Petry who has 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) in 78 games. Petry potted a goal in Pittsburgh last night, and less than a week ago he picked up two helpers against the Detroit Red Wings. New Jersey has a lot to play for tonight, but Montreal is home and Jeff continues to see big minutes on the Canadiens' top power play unit. There are no shortage of options on defense tonight with Kris Letang, Victor Hedman and John Carlson leading the way, but if looking to save some salary to spend up on forwards, a good way to go about that is on defense with Jeff Petry who can do a little bit of everything, and he has already smashed his career-high in goals (8 in 2016-17) with 11 this season, so the upside is certainly there.
Save some salary on defense with this minute-chewing blue liner
The ice time of Jeff Petry in March (23:17) is not what it was in February (24:50) when he tallied nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in 11 games, but he is still a fantastic source of salary savings given the matchup with the National Hockey League's worst team. Petry has yet to pot a goal in March despite 22 shots on goal. He is still logging big minutes on the team's top power play as Claude Julien really doesn't have any other defensemen to turn to. With a number of stud forwards available on this short Friday slate, saving some money on the blue line is a solid approach. Petry should be good for at least a couple shots and a couple blocks, and there is upside for much more against a Sabre squad that has allowed 3.56 goals per game this month.
Underpriced option on the Montreal blue-line
If you're not looking to pick on the New York Islanders at all at this point in the season, your bank roll is likely far lighter than it was back in October. The Islanders have allowed an NHL worst 3.53 goals against per game this season and own an Eastern Conference worst 74.3% penalty kill. A long time "depth defenseman", Jeff Petry taken advantage of Shea Weber's absence in a big way and has emerged as an every day DFS option on the blue-line. The veteran defenseman has already surpassed his career high in points with 31 points in 63 games this season and owns six goals and 11 assists in 24 games since the calendar flipped to 2018. As the quarterback of the 'Habs top power-play unit, he'll figures to see plenty of opportunities to exploit that horrible New York penalty kill.
Multi-Point Potential on the Blue Line
The New York Islanders have been a defensive disaster throughout the 2017-18 season (ranking 30th overall in CA/60 and 31st overall in both HDCA/60 and SCA/60), and the Montreal Canadiens should be able to light them up tonight at the Bell Centre. On top of their weak defensive play, the Islanders have also struggled all season long while short-handed (toting the National Hockey Leagues 30th ranked penalty kill), and that is where Jeff Petry comes in. The 30 year-old blue liner logs heavy minutes (averaging over 23 minutes per game) at both even strength and as the Canadiens power play quarterback, and he has big game upside tonight in this pus matchup on home ice.
Senators Favorable Matchup at both 5v5 and Power Play
Petry is going to be popular given he just scored two goals yesterday, so while he is unlikely to contribute another pair of goals, he should still have a productive outing. While filling in for Shea Weber, Petry has been a fine contributor at both 5v5 and on the power play. A matchup against the porous Senator defense should allow him to continue to contribute, and as blueliner of record on the top Montreal power play unit, Petry should enjoy facing an Ottawa penalty kill that has elevated rates of shot attempts, scoring chances, and high-danger shot attempts allowed.
This defenseman has been benefiting from a major injury to a teammate
With Shea Weber on the shelf, Jeff Petry has been pretty solid. In the 11 games since Weber went down, Petry has been averaging 24 minutes per game and put up one goal, seven points, 40 shots and 16 blocks. He is locked in on the top power play unit and being asked to do everything. His decent peripheral stats make him a high floor play which is still okay for tournaments and given his ice-time especially on the power play, he does have the upside you need. The Habs are in Boston to take on the Bruins which is a tough matchup given the Habs issues scoring goals this season, but Petry is a good price and produces across the board.
