Jermaine Gresham Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Jermaine Gresham (back) questionable for Sunday

Jermaine Gresham is questionable for Sunday due to a back injury. Should he be unable to suit up, look for Ricky Seals-Jones to be locked into his usual target share out of the tight end position, and to continue to try to build on the progress he's made since the Cardinals change in offensive coordinator.

Jermaine Gresham (heel) questionable for Sunday

Jermaine Gresham is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers due to a heel injury. If he is unable to go it would mean a few extra targets for Ricky Seals-Jones, who would handle the primary reps out of the tight end position.

Jermaine Gresham Active Sunday

Jermaine Gresham (achilles) will be active Sunday against the Bears. This is a tough defensive matchup for a Cardinals offense that has only managed 6 points on the season thus far, so expectations are limited for the Cardinals passing game. That said, this also hurts the target expectation for Ricky Seals-Jones as well with Gresham active.

Jermaine Gresham inactive Sunday

Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham will be inactive today with an achilles injury. Ricky Seals-Jones will lead the Cardinals in TE targets, and is an interesting play on the afternoon slate.

Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (illness) ruled out for Sunday

Gresham was limited in practice earlier in the week with a rib issue but he has now been downgraded to out on the Arizona Cardinals' injury report for tomorrow's game against the Washington Redskins due to an illness. His absence should open up more snaps for Ricky Seals-Jones in the passing game, though the Cardinals running game could suffer a bit if Seals-Jones is asked to block. Since Week 11, when Blaine Gabbert took over at quarterback, Seals-Jones has played just 22 percent of snaps but has been third on the team in targets during that same span. He'll set up as an interesting tournament target for his low price point on Sunday's slate in a matchup with a Redskins defense that ranks 20th in pass DVOA versus opposing tight ends.

J.J. Nelson (hamstring) and Jermaine Gresham (ribs) active Monday night, John Brown (quad), LG Mike Iupati (tricep), and LT D.J. Humphries (knee) inactive

With John Brown still out, Nelson will compete with Larry Fitzgerald and Jaron Brown for targets against the Cowboys. While Brown was sidelined for their Week 2 matchup with the Colts, Nelson broke out for 120 yards and a score. It was Jaron Brown who led the team in targets though; he received 11 to Nelson's 7. Although Jaron only finished with four receptions, his lack of efficiency is a little misleading as he was only tossed four catchable balls from Carson Palmer. Without John Brown and David Johnson, Jaron Brown and Nelson will continue to see an uptick in targets. In Week 3, the Cowboys allowed Trevor Siemian to throw four touchdown passes. Two were credited to Dallas' banged-up cornerback group. Across 17 targets towards Dallas' corners, Siemien racked up 13 completions for 151 yards. Anthony Brown is the top-graded CB on Dallas, currently ranking 11th in coverage among 105 qualifying corners (84.1), per PFF, but his score may be inflated due to his first game against a weak, Beckham-less Giants offense. He only allowed one reception for six yards in that contest but in Week 2, he was credited with a 7/62/1 line on ten targets. He'll see J.J. Nelson the most tonight. Jaron Brown will likely battle rookie Jourdan Lewis, who's only played 31 cover snaps in the NFL (all last week); Siemian was 3-for-4 for 22 yards and a touchdown against him.

Jermaine Gresham (ribs) expected to play Week 3

He sat out last weekend but appears all set for their upcoming matchup with the Cowboys. The tight end pulled in three catches for 15 yards in their first game and doesn't appear to be a strong fantasy asset. Dallas has been weak at the corner position and they're banged up. Quarterback Carson Palmer should continue to favor his receivers when attacking through the air.

Jim Dray released by Cardinals

Arizona signed him last week because Jermaine Gresham (ribs) was sidelined. Dray's release is an indication Gresham is on track to suit up this weekend against the Cowboys.

John Brown, Jermaine Gresham, Mike Iupati, D.J. Humphries, and D.J. Foster inactive for Cardinals Sunday

John Brown can't seem to stay healthy; a lingering quad issue will keep him sidelined Sunday. Rookie receiver Chad Williams will enter the rotation as the fourth wideout. Alex Boone will start in place of Iupati. John Wetzel entered their first game for Humphries and he's expected to get the nod again. He was very poor, earning an abysmal 28.5 PFF grade. Arizona struggled to run the ball in Week 1, averaging 2.5 yards per carry - even with David Johnson accounting for 11 of those (23 yards). They'll face a Colts defensive line that limited the Rams to 1.9 yards per carry as a team and Todd Gurley to 2.1 ypc on 19 attempts. They were shredded by Jared Goff through the air for 306 yards and a touchdown on a 72.4% completion rate though. Quarterback Carson Palmer may be forced to air it out and he should find success against their poor secondary. Larry Fitzgerald, J.J. Nelson, and Jaron Brown will pick up some extra targets vacated by John Brown and Johnson, who averaged 7.5 per game in 2016. Andre Ellington is expected to be involved as the pass-down back, but he's in a timeshare with starter Kerwynn Williams and Chris Johnson. Even their fourth back, Elijhaa Penny is expected to get some work in the backfield.

John Brown (quad) and Jermaine Gresham (ribs) not expected to practice Thursday

Beat writer Darren Urban reported that it doesn't look like those two or guard Mike Iupati (triceps) would be participating in Thursday's session as none of them were present to the portion of practice open to the media. Brown's quad injury continues to linger. He played through it in Week 1 and picked up nine targets, so it's possible Arizona is just being cautious with their number two receiver. Now that David Johnson has been placed on the IR, 7.5 targets per game will open up for the receivers and some of them could come Brown's way. Arizona will need Brown to return to his 2015 form as a big playmaker to have success on the field. The receiver had a down year in 2016 as he battled health issues and it's not clear if his current ailment isn't overly serious, although it is a little concerning he didn't return to practice today. Last season, he only caught 4-of-14 targets at least 20 yards downfield for 91 yards. A year prior, he hauled in eight deep passes and turned them into 379 yards. Although Brown failed to catch in his lone deep target against the Lions, he should get more opportunities downfield this week against an awful Colts secondary if he suits up. The Cardinals may struggle to run the ball without DJ, which could lead them to a higher passing volume than expected game flow implies. They're currently 7.5-point favorites with an implied total of 25.75 points.
