Jimmy Walker Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Multiple Monday WD's for the first event of the 2021 PGA Tour season

The PGA Tour season will start a new this week as the 2021 season will get underway on Thursday at The Safeway Open. Matt Kuchar added his name to the list of players who committed to the event to pull out on Monday. Joining Danny Lee, Jimmy Walker, and Bronson Burgoon, Kuchar will take a pass on this week's event. With only one week separating the first event of the 2021 season and The U.S. Open, there could be more player movement as the week progresses. Roberto Castro, George McNiel, Bill Haas, and Ryan Blaum have been added as replacements and should be in the pricing pool within the next 24 hours.

Weather update for The 3M Open

Kevin Roth's weather report is up in the main forum for the inaugural 3M Open. Overall the forecast appears to be pretty equal for both days so there is not really an edge to be gained in terms of stacking a tee time wave. TPC Twin Cities has seen a ton of pre-tournament rain and could be in for an occasional storm over the first two days. With similar winds, both days players should face the same conditions, and if the already wet course gets any more rain then we could really see the landing areas widen due to soft conditions.

Jimmy Walker provides upside at low ownership

While the 2019 PGA Tour season has not been a particularly great season for Jimmy Walker, there is still hope to finish the year strong. Currently, outside of the top 125 in The FedEx Cup race and in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 season, Walker will need to play well over the next two months if he has any plans of making into the FedEx Cup race. With three top 35 or better finishes in his last four starts, Walker appears to be trending in the right direction ahead of The Rocket Mortage Classic. Currently predicted to garnish an ownership level lower than 5% for the week, Walker is a PGA Tour veteran that you can look to for upside at a discount for the week.

Affordable Value

If you want a course-based value play, Walker is a fine pick for this U.S. Open. He ALWAYS seems to play better on the West Coast swing with lots of poa annua greens, as he tends to play well in Hawai’i and California. He has six top 12 finishes over the last nine editions of the Pro-Am event, so his comfort factor is clear. His form over the last few years has been a bit rocky as he has battled Lyme Disease, but he has started to show more consistency of late. He has logged three straight top 35 finishes, including a steady closing 68 in last week’s RBC Canadian Open. He doesn’t pop that much statistically, but the recent trends are positive, and the course fit is clearly there. You could consider him a “poor man’s Snedeker” in that realm.

Jimmy Walker is trending towards low ownership

Jimmy Walker enters this week as a perfect example of how polarizing course history can be in DFS golf. In his past five starts at The Texas Open Walker is 23 under par with 4 top 20 finishes including a win. Walker has gained 42 strokes tee to green over that time and is priced at $7,800 on DK for the week. With a current form that includes a handful of missed cuts and zero strong finishes, Walker is trending towards a low ownership number. The line has been drawn in the sand and it appears those who value course history can gain an edge by taking a chance on a player with less than desirable recent form. Walker is not without risk, but if he can perform well at a course that fits his game then there is more than enough upside to pay off his price for the week.y

Jimmy Walker trending as a low owned high upside play for the week

The start of a season gives us a chance to evaluate players we like in terms of looking at the upcoming season. Similar to getting ready for a football draft we can take some time over the offseason to look at players and try to guess how they will perform next season. Jimmy Walker is a player that could very well be in line for a bounce-back season in 2019. Even though he did not win last season, Walker flashed with a few strong finishes and went on record several times that his battle with Lyme disease was becoming less of an issue. Now able to practice and play more golf, Walker can hopefully show that he still has the game to compete at the highest level. Walker has two wins at this course and enters this week as a player that is trending towards very low ownership. With back to back missed cuts at this event, most appear ready to give up on this two-time champ, making Walker a great GPP option for the week. Garnishing less than 6% projected ownership, Walker is not without risk, but if we are taking shots to win a big GPP then he has proven to have more than enough upside to crush his value at this price point.

Two-Time Winner of this Event

I really didn’t expect to be writing up Walker this week. Ever since he came down with Lyme disease, I’ve been rooting for him to make a comeback. He flashed some form last season, but I could never really get on board with playing him in DFS. For whatever reason, I’m extremely high on Walker this week. He’s made his last two cuts on tour (both in the Fall swing season) and he’s won this event two times. He’s played here the last two seasons, missing the cut on the number both times. Walker is wild off the tee, but good with his irons and a very streaky putter. Hopefully good memories will be flowing this week and he can put together four solid rounds.

Abraham Ancer plays his way into The BMW Championship

Looking to make the most of his second stint on the PGA Tour, Abraham Ancer played excellent golf this last week and was able to move inside the top 70 and earn a birth at The BMW Championship. DraftKings released it's player pool for this short week early on Tuesday morning, but has yet to add players like Ancer. If you are setting early week lineups please note that the field will be updated with both additions and subtractions. Players like Jimmy Walker did not qualify for the next event and will not play this week.

Finding Form Ahead of Shinnecock

Stirred up the pot with recent Twitter comments but he made a pre-tournament comment about it and I’d expect that to the last he’ll comment on it. Now onto the good stuff, Walker arrives with stellar lead-in form. He’s gained 6 or more strokes tee-to-green in each of his last four starts. The approaches have been especially good (+6.4, +5.0, +2.1, +5.0). That confidence has spilled over into his putting which has gained 3.8 or more strokes in three of his last four starts. This all coincides with his wife saying she has the “Old Jimmy” back in terms of his health. Lastly, he won the PGA Championship at Baltusrol so we know he can contend on a tough course in this region.

Texan Rounding into Form

Walker wasn’t high on my radar earlier in the week, but I’m tempted to go all in after doing some research. He’s a Texas native and he’s rounding into great form. After dealing with Lyme Disease the last two seasons, he is finally feeling better and it has shown in his results. Not only is he playing more golf, but he’s stringing together great performances. His biggest weakness is off the tee, but that’s not a concern this week. The fairways here are 50+ yards wide and there are no trees.
