Veteran goalie draws nice spot
Anaheim has been playing better hockey including last night's overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks, but if looking for a cheap goalie in a game environment not really screaming goals, Jonathan Quick makes some sense. The Kings play low event hockey, so while Quick is not likely to see many shots, he should be able to limit the damage and pick up the win. At just $7,200 on FanDuel and a reasonable $7,600 on DraftKings, Quick is an acceptable play in cash games.
Goalie Heavily Favored at Home
The Kings have had a disastrous season thus far, so it's been rare to see them heavily favored against anyone. A visit from the Ottawa Senators on the second of a back-to-back is enough to list them as -230 favorites. The Senators have been atrocious on the road with a 5-14-1 record. Quick is also coming off a shutout in his last outing against the Oilers. I expect him to pick up the all-important win bonus tonight.
Veteran backstop looks for repeat performance after shutout
Jonathan Quick was razor sharp Sunday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, stopping all 34 shots faced for a 2-0 shutout victory. In the third period, when the game was deadlocked at zero, Quick stoned the Hurricanes who had a 5-on-3 power play for a minute and a half. In another game where goals figure to be at a premium, Quick is a strong option in all formats, especially when you consider his dirt-cheap price tag across the industry ($7,300 - DraftKings & $7,700 - FanDuel). Arizona is averaging over 30 shots on goal per game but are averaging the fourth-fewest goals per game (2.60 GF/G) in the National Hockey League. Look for Quick to have another solid start.
Top Goalie Tonight
As far as cash game goalies go, Jonathan Quick is at the top of my list tonight, as the Los Angeles Kings host an Arizona Coyotes team that is not only playing their second game in as many nights, but that has also struggled to score goals throughout the 2017-18 campaign. The Coyotes currently rank 30th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game, and I cannot not see them putting up much of an offensive fight this evening at the Staples Center. Quick has been terrific in goal for the Kings since the All-Star break (2.25 GAA, .927 SV%, 2 SHO) and on home ice (2.22 GAA, .925 SV%, 3 SHO), and he is not only our safest bet to win tonight, but also our best chance at a shutout.
Top Goalie Tonight
If you are playing cash games tonight, and security is your thing, Jonathan Quick should be your goalie. The Los Angeles Kings are not only the biggest favorite tonight on this nine-game slate, but the Detroit Red Wings also has the lowest implied goal total on the night, so all indications are that Quick should cruise to an easy victory. The Detroit Red Wings have struggled to put the biscuit in the basket all year long (ranking 28th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game), and I cannot not see them doing much offensive damage tonight at the Staples Center. The Kings netminder is a lock for the win this evening, and a second straight shutout for Quick is certainly a possibility as well.
This goalie is taking on one of the most disappointing teams this season
The Los Angeles Kings host one of the most disappointing teams this season, the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago sits 25th in the NHL in points and are 14 points out of a playoff spot which means they are a virtual lock to miss the postseason. Quick has always been better at keeping the puck out of the net on home ice, which is partly because the Kings allow less shots. In his career, Quick has a 2.13 GAA (2.45 on the road) and a .917 SV% (.916 on the road). This is continuing again this season as he has put up a 2.29 GAA and .924 SV% on home ice with a 2.57 GAA and .920 SV% on the road. With the lowly Blackhawks coming to town with nothing to play for as the Kings remain in the thick of the playoff race, I expect the Kings to come out hard and Quick to pick up the win.
Top Goalie Tonight?
The Boston Bruins are the biggest favorite on the board tonight, but I prefer not to roster cash game goalies on the road, and we know the New York Rangers can score, which has me rolling with Jonathan Quick on this three-game slate. Despite having arguably the best player on the world, the Edmonton Oilers have struggled to score goals all season long (21st in goals per game), and it does not appear they are figuring things out anytime soon (30th in goals per game this month). Quick has been rock solid at home this year (2.36 GAA, .922 SV%), and I think we see another strong performance from him this evening at the Staples Center.
It's hard to ignore this goalies consistency
Jonathan Quick continues to be one of the most consistent goaltenders in the NHL. On the season he has a 2.33 goals against average and a .924 save percentage, numbers that are basically identical both on home ice and on the road. The Kings are home to a Sharks team tonight that is not nearly as dominant as in previous years. They sit outside a playoff spot and in the bottom 10 in goals per game. Quick is expensive but has tournament winning upside and makes for a great play tonight.
Pay Up For This Star Goalie
Fresh off an incredible 36 save win in his last start in Philadelphia, Quick and the Kings return to home ice in a Western Conference matchup against rival Colorado. A new system under John Stevens has brought Quick back from the DFS grave as he enters tonight's game with a solid .929 SV% on home ice this season. With a strong supporting cast and home ice advantage, Quick shouldn't have much trouble comfortably cruising an easy victory against an Avalanche team that gets the majority of their scoring from their top line. I don't say this often, but this one has shutout written all over it, making Quick a solid "late night hammer" who can carry you to the top of a GPP tonight.
This goalie continues to dominate even without the defensive system in front of him
With Darryl Sutter out as the head coach for the Los Angeles Kings, many wondered how the team would do defensively without his strict defensive system. Well, Jonathan Quick hasn't missed a beat and has been dominant this season. One aspect I like to look at when selecting a goalie is if they are taking on a team that shoots a lot but struggles to score. This allows your goalie to rack up the saves and put up a high score. Tonight, the Kings are facing the perfect opponent for this. Carolina is first in the league averaging 35.37 shots per game. However, they sit 25th in the league in goals scored per game with just a 2.74 average. The Kings have historically been dominant on home ice and I expect that to continue tonight. It is often not announced in advanced who is starting for Los Angeles, so make sure to follow along the pre-game warmup to ensure Quick is starting. The Kings are not in any sort of back to back situation so there is no reason to expect Quick NOT to start, but just to be safe make sure you check back around game time.
