Jordan Staal Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

This second line is an intriguing cheap option tonight

Over the last 10 games, it has been Teuvo Teravainen leading the way in points for the Carolina Hurricanes. His 12 points — 11 of them being assists — has been a bit of a relief off of the shoulders of Sebastian Aho who has been carrying the load for the most part. Teravainen has been playing with the returning Jordal Staal and rookie Andrei Svechnikov over the last 10 games since Staal's return. Teravainen is playing on the top power play unit while Staal and Svech play on the second unit which is a bit discouraging but this line is still a solid even strength line worth stacking.

This line has been the best possession line in the NHL this season.

Jordan Staal, Justin Williams and Warren Foegele have been the best possession line in the NHL with an incredible 67.87 CF%. Due to their dominance, it makes sense that the Carolina Hurricanes as a whole have been the best possession team with a 60.67 CF%. Tonight they visit another great possession team in the Arizona Coyotes, a team that has struggled to score this season. Although both of these teams are fantastic possession-wise, there is some home that we're going to get plenty of scoring chances in both directions. Carolina may get more scoring chances, but they'll be taking on a much better goaltender in Antti Raanta who is sporting a 1.99 GAA and a .926 SV%.

Center Should Be Low Owned

Jordan Staal and his linemates were white-hot to start the season, but have cooled lately. Staal has been held pointless in his last four games, but has still been seeing 20+ minutes of ice time. For the season, Staal ranks in the Top 10 in Corsi For Percentage at 64%, meaning he and his linemates are creating a number of shots on goal compared to shots on goal allowed. Five of Staal's six points on the season have come at home this season, which is where he'll be tonight against the Sharks. Even on a small slate, I expect him to be very low owned.

This line has been one of the most dominant even strength lines in the NHL this season.

You may be surprised to know that Jordan Staal, Warren Foegele and Justin Williams have been one of the best lines in the NHL this season with an astounding 67.93 CF% which is second-best. Additionally, they have a 65.36 xGF% which ranks sixth. Unfortunately, even strength is where they thrive and there only chance to play together as Staal is on the top power play unit, Williams is on the second unit and Foegele doesn't get much — if any — power play time. This is a GPP play because of the lack of power play correlation and even strength inconsistencies they present, despite the elite numbers 5v5.

Do Not Fade This Line Tonight In Any Format

The New York Islanders have been the worst defensive team in the National Hockey League for some time now (sitting 30th overall in CA/60 and 31st in HDCA/60 and SCA/60), and I expect the Carolina Hurricanes to take advantage of that tonight at the PNC Arena, by scoring at least four goals. The Carolina Hurricanes do have scoring depth, but I will be focusing mostly on their top line tonight in all formats. In cash games, I would strongly recommend rostering two-thirds of the Hurricanes top line, and I am not against a full line stack. As for GPPs, the Hurricanes top trio correlates well at both even strength and on Carolinas top power play unit, making this moderately priced line the top overall line stack on the night.

This Line is Moderately Priced With Multi-Goal Potential

Despite the Carolina Hurricanes playing on the tail end of a back-to-back, I am still very interested in rostering their number one line tonight. The Hurricanes drive play extremely well (third-best CF/60 and the sixth-best SCF/60 in the National Hockey League this season), and their top line (Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen) should dominate when on the ice. In cash games, I will be getting exposure to the Hurricanes top line starting with Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho. As for GPPs, this line has multi-goal potential and they are moderately priced, making them an excellent line stack in tournament play.

Underrated Line Stack In Great Spot

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack to target in tournaments tonight, consider taking the top line of Carolina which features Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho, and Elias Lindholm. Known more for their defensive abilities, this line found great chemistry towards the end of last season and also receives top power play minutes for the Hurricanes. They draw a juicy matchup at home against one of the league's worst teams in Ottawa who allow the second most shot attempts, the second most scoring chances, and own the second worst adjusted xGA/60 on tonight's slate. Carolina meanwhile has generated the most shot attempts, and the second most scoring chances among home teams on tonight's slate. All featured on Carolina's top power play unit, expect this trio to be very busy on the man advantage tonight against an Ottawa penalty kill that ranks 29th in the NHL this season.

High Upside Line With Sneaky Matchup

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack to target in tournaments tonight, consider taking the top line of Carolina which features Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho, and Elias Lindholm. Known more for their defensive abilities, this line found great chemistry towards the end of last season and also receives top power play minutes for the Hurricanes. This bodes well for the underrated trio, who should be very busy on the man advantage tonight against a Washington Capitals team that ranks 22nd in penalty kill percentage this season. Without home ice advantage, this line shouldn't see much of superstar forward Alex Ovechkin throughout much of tonight's game, allowing Staal, Aho, and Lindholm to focus on generating offense against one of the many weaker defensive lines of Washington.

Carolina center looks to stay hot in Buffalo

Jordan Staal has been on a tear with two goals and six assists in his last four games. A matchup with a thin Buffalo team on the tail end of a back to back presents another glorious opportunity for the Hurricanes' leader to add to his point total. Buffalo's defense leaves a lot to be desired, and the Carolina Hurricanes are a team that heavily dictate play, no matter who their opponent is. Buffalo should be skating backwards throughout this game, and when they do, the Hurricanes' top line of Aho, Staal and Teravainen can make them pay, much like they have to opponents all week long.

CAR 1

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack to target in tournaments tonight, consider taking the top line of Carolina which features Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho, and Elias Lindholm. Known more for their defensive abilities, this line found great chemistry towards the end of last season and also receives top power play minutes for the Hurricanes. This bodes well for the underrated trio, who should be very busy on the man advantage tonight against a weak Edmonton penalty kill that ranks dead last in the NHL this season. Without home ice advantage, this line shouldn't see much of superstar forward Connor McDavid throughout much of tonight's game, allowing Staal, Aho, and Lindholm to focus on generating offense against one of the many weaker defensive lines of Edmonton.
