Backup goaltender with big upside despite tough spot
For whatever reason, Nashville has been mediocre at best defensively on the road, and the spot tonight is not the greatest after getting burned by Detroit for four goals last night, but Saros is a quality goaltender and his price across the industry is attractive, especially on DraftKings ($7,400) where pricing is generally tighter. In Saros' last start, he made 32 saves in a 4-0 route of the Philadelphia Flyers. In his start before that, Juuse made 33 saves on 34 shots in a win over the New Jersey Devils. Montreal as a team is averaging the third-most shots on goal per game but their scoring is middle of the pack. Saros should see a fair number of shots tonight in what amounts to a coin flip game. Roll out Juuse in tournaments.
Backup netminder makes for strong option in all formats
With Taylor Hall missing last night, the Devils stepped it up against Marc-Andre Fleury, even after the brutal Cory Schneider dug them in a 0-3 hole. The Devils will have a much tougher time finding goals against the stout Predators' defense. Saros has been mediocre this season, but it's a great spot and he already has a win against the Devils earlier this season, making 33 saves on 36 shots. He should see 30+ shots again tonight and get the win. His price is up there on DraftKings ($8,200), but he checks in at a very nice price on FanDuel ($8,000) where he is less expensive than a handful of other netminders.
Backup Goalie in Great Spot
Juuse Saros filled in admirably during Pekka Rinne's absence, thanks in part to the best defensive core in the NHL playing in front of him. Saros has struggled lately, but still has a 7-3-0 record on this season. He has a great chance of extending his winning ways as Vegas has instilled the Predators as -200 favorites on the road. The Blues have struggled to put the puck in the net, averaging less than 3 goals a game on the year.
Nashville goalie seeks strong start against Western Conference Champions
After a sizzling start to the season, Juuse Saros has had a rough go of it as of late, allowing 12 goals in his last three starts. Last time out, Saros and the Predators lost to the sizzling McDavid. A quick look at McDavid's game log shows the only time he was held without a point was by this man - Juuse Saros, in a 3-0 shutout 10 days ago. Saros checks in as a decent-sized favorite tonight, and Vegas' ability to put pucks on goal (35.1 SF/G) provides him a reasonable baseline. Despite taking the fourth-most shots on goal per game, Vegas is averaging the second-fewest goals per game (2.27 GF/G) in the National Hockey League. Saros makes a lot of sense in both cash games and GPPs.
One of the best backups in the league is in a great matchup
The Nashville Predators are one of the deepest teams across the board. Their forwards, their defence and their goaltending depth is insane. The Predators are expected to roll out backup Juuse Saros tonight, and he is arguably the best backup goaltender in the NHL. On the season, he has a 2.44 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and three shutouts in just 14 games. Pekka Rinne was looking like he may be on the downswing of his career over the last couple seasons, but with Saros pushing him, Rinne looks to be back in peak form giving the Predators an insanely good goaltending tandem. The Predators are home to the Red Wings today, a team that is in transition. Saros should have no problem picking up the win tonight and with his elite ability, a shutout is not out of the question which gives him tournament winning upside.
This Nashville Predators goaltender has been dominant lately
The Nashville Predators are hosting the New York Rangers tonight and it is expected that Pekka Rinne will be starting (be sure to check out the starting goalies page). Rinne has been incredibly dominant as of late, allowing just 11 goals in his last 7 games since January 1st. Tonight is another opportunity against a struggling Rangers team who have lost four of their last five. Rinne has an incredible 2.29 goals against average and .928 save percentage to go along with five shutouts. If Rinne doesn't get the start and it is Juuse Saros, he also makes for an elite play as he has been equally dominant. I love the Predators goalies tonight, no matter which one starts.
