Kevin Chappell set to return to The PGA Tour

After missing the majority of the 2019 season due to back surgery Kevin Chappell is set to make his return to The PGA Tour this week. This one-time Presidents Cup member did not play at all this year until last month. Looking to test out his game, Chappell played in two Korn Ferry tour events last month. Chappell made the cut in both events he played finishing outside the top 50 each time. With a few more events added to the wrap around season, players like Chappell will look to get an early start on the 2020 season. Playing in his seventh Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, Chappell has some decent course history with 3 top 30 or better finishes in five made cuts. Hopefully healthy, Chappell can begin to work his way back to playing the level of golf prior to his injury.

Putting Prayers

Chappy is never going to light up the putting greens but his recent run of putting is very poor, even by his standards. Luckily, we are heading to a course where he’s seen some putts drop. Chappell has been inside the top 12 after 8 of his last 12 rounds here at TPC Boston. He gained 1.8 strokes putting in 2015 and another 3.8 strokes in 2016. That 3.8 week falls inside his top-10 putting performances since 2012. If there is ever a time to trust the ball-striking and hope for a decent putting week, this looks like a strong spot for that. He’s gained strokes off-the-tee in all but two starts this season which gives him a relatively high floor for a golfer in this price range.

This Guy is "Good to Go" for the Masters

He settled for a T44 in his 2012 Masters debut but returned last year to post a T7 finish. He beat the field by 3+ strokes in two of his four rounds here last year. Chappell is the king at turning top 40s into top 10s in the matter of one round. With a small field this week, a high percentage of golfers should make it through the cut. That means we should get at least one super-low round out of Chappie this week. He didn’t finish his final match at Match Play due to a back injury but he was already eliminated at that point. I'm not putting too much stock into that. I think he's good to go and one of the best ball-strikers in the field.

FanDuel Golf is back

The new FanDuel golf scoring system and pricing came out today. To the delight of many in the community FanDuel removed the round specific roster requirements. The new golf product will now feature picking a team of 8 golfers. Points are rewarded for both scoring and finishing positions. Much like other golf products, the scoring system looks to favor golfers who make a ton of birdies and or eagles. FanDuel has differentiated its product by penalizing golfers for higher scores. A golfer who makes a double bogey or worse will loose almost as many points as he gains for making a birdie. With the removal of round requirements all golfers will now receive finishing points. The increase of rosters spots from six to eight will give FanDuel's golf product a different feel than other sites. Getting a full team of six golfers through to the weekend is already a very hard task, so the addition of two players to the mix should provide for a very interesting scoring system. Picking a team of golfers that fits under the $60,000 salary could put more of an emphasis on identifying site specific value. Creating a roster that fits in the desired top-tiered players will force gamers to spend a bit more time finding the value plays for the week. This week Kevin Chappell looks to be an early favorite for such value. At $6,900 on FanDuel this 29th ranked player in the world accounts for 11.5 percent of the salary cap. At first glance this might not seem like much, but Chappell's $7,800 price on DraftKings will cost you 15.6% of your cap. The almost five precent difference is one of the greater values in this price range. With one win already this season, Chappell appears to have found the form that put him in contention for much of last season.

Kevin Chappell returns to action

The PGA tour's most recent first-time winner will tee it up for the first time since his win at the Valero Texas Open. After struggling to regain the form that saw him post four runner-up finishes in 2016, Chappell finally broke through for his first win. Like many of his fellow Nike staff players, Chappell struggled to find an equipment solution left by the now defunct club company. Prior the Masters, Chappell switched back to his old clubs and ball, and then preceded to post his first top ten of the season. Chappell kept his equipment change the same for his next event, and was rewarded with his first ever PGA tour win. With a second place finish in last year’s Players Championship and his resurgence in form, Chappell could be a great tournament play this week. Early ownership projections show Chappell at a very reasonable level, and if you are playing on both sites the price on FanDuel is much more appealing.
