Kevin Kisner Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Dominates on these Shorter Courses

Kisner rarely grades out as an elite point-per-dollar play in my model because a lot of my inputs focus on statistics and long-term results. Kisner is one of those golfers that tends to play very well on very specific tracks and tends to struggle everywhere else. His specialty is shorter courses, especially ones designed by Pete Dye. He has made each of his last six cuts at Harbour Town, posting three top 11 finishes during that stretch. He also picked up a win at the WGC Dell Match Play last year, which is another Dye course. He was very active during the break and even set up a match against the guys from the Fore Play podcast. He says he feels really good about his game and could easily find himself in contention this week.

Kevin Kisner is a horse for this course

For those that love narrative street, there will be a few golfers to look at this week in terms of playing close to home. While there are quite a few golfers who call the Sea Island area home, there is one golfer who has the record to back up such a narrative. Kevin Kisner lives in the area and is a player who absolutely loves playing this tournament. Kisner has four top tens including a win in his last five starts at The RSM Classic. A deep dive into a bit of course history revels that Kisner has shot 67 or better in 14 of his last 30 rounds at this tournament. Even in his missed cut at the 2017 RSM Classic Kisner shot 2 under par and had a chance to make the cut late on Friday. Priced-down in comparison to other big named golfers, Kisner stands out as a great place to start roster builds for the week.

Kevin Kisner trending as a strong value play

The big challenge this week is to try and figure out what type of players have the best shot to play well at this new venue. On a course that appears to favor driving accuracy and timely putting, players like Kevin Kisner stand out as great sources of value for the week. Kisner finished the 2019 season strong and has proven that he can compete against the best players in the world. Priced-down in this very strong field, Kisner is a player you should feel comfortable rostering in all formats for the week. Kisner's home courses are both tree-lined venues, so it's safe to say that this multiple PGA Tour winner should have no trouble adjusting to a tighter golf course.

Weather update for The Masters

Kevin Roth's weather report for the year's first major is up in the main forum. The rain that came through Tuesday is gone, and the course is trying to dry up. Having walked the grounds today at the Masters I can tell you it's still pretty wet, but the sub air system was on full blast, so you can bet they are trying their hardest to get the course ready for Thursday. That being said it's still wet so bombers could see a slight advantage. In terms of weather, it looks like there is no edge to be had in terms of one tee time wave gaining an edge over another. If rain continues to fall throughout the week, then we could see the course potentially play longer in spite of the ground crew's effort to dry the place out. Rain could come into play starting Thursday night and potentially come into play at different times over the next few days. The chance for a washout is not high, as for now, it looks like scattered showers and a few potential thunderstorms.

Trending in the Right Direction

If you haven’t noticed already, I’m targeting a very specific type of golfer this week. I’m typically very price-sensitive in PGA DFS, but am willing to pay a premium for golfers that fit the mold that I’m looking for. Kisner will rarely compete on long courses because he doesn’t have the distance needed off the tee. His best finishes are all on these shorter tracks where he can gain strokes on approach, around the green, and with his putter. I’m typically not a huge Kisner fan when it comes to DFS, but his recent ball striking has caught my attention. He has gained strokes on approach in three straight tournaments and five of his last six. He’s rounding into form and gets to play a course that should highlight his skill set.

Low Ownership, Intriguing Upside

There is no doubt that Kisner had an underwhelming 2018 year on the PGA Tour. By his standards, his game was “miss” much more than it was “hit” and it led to Kisner disappointing his DFS owners quite often. A time also came where there weren’t many of those DFS owners for him to disappoint on a weekly basis. He will almost certainly be flying under the radar for this event, and this just might be the spot to pounce in GPP formats. He ranked well above average in ball striking and greens in regulation during the fall swing, and he finished the fall season with a top ten finish at the RSM Classic. He has finishes of 24-4-5 here over the last three editions of the Sony Open, as well, so the form and course history just might be coming together at the right time. Shhhhh. He’s a potential 5% owned gem in this spot.

Weather update for The Fort Worth Invitational

Kevin Roth's weather report for The Fort Worth Invitational is up in the main forum, and for now, it looks like the weather should not factor into your roster-building decisions. Normally we have to pay attention to the wind a bit more at Colonial, but according to Roth the first two days of golf should have a very consistent wind pattern. Roth calls for winds to blow anywhere between 5 to 10 mph each day giving no real edge to one tee time wave. The Texas summer has started a bit early and all four days of golf should have temperatures into the low to mid 90's. Everything considered this is a great week for golf, and the lack of weather should yield some low scores at Colonial this week.

Kevin Kisner continues to gain steam

Kevin Kisner is the type of player who should play well this week. With a game built around hitting accurate golf shots, Kisner has proven he can play well at Harbour Town. With a closing 64 in the 2015 RBC Hertigae Kisner finished one shot out of claiming what would have been his first career PGA Tour win. Currently ranked inside the top 30 in both the FedEx Cup standings and in the official world golf rankings Kisner is quickly gaining steam in terms of ownership this week. News of the Adam Hadwin withdrawal had many in the DFS community scrambling to find a replacement this week, and Kisner appears to be the guy benefiting from the news. With an increase of almost 12% in ownership since Tuesday, Kisner is now one of the more popular plays of the week. Kisner has not played his best golf this season, but he loves this course and should be in a great spot to once again contend for a victory. If you liked Kisner early in the week, don't let the inflated ownership numbers scare you off the play.

Ready for a Rebound?

On one hand, I am super intrigued here, but on the other hand, Kisner scares me a bit this week. As such, he doesn't fit the cash game narrative. His 2018 stats don't pop off the page at all, and his approach game has been abysmal. However, this could be the spot to hop aboard before the masses do. His price tag is more affordable these days and he loves the course, so the GPP appeal is definitely there, especially if the ownership is going to be sub-10%. Kisner has several quotes on file about how much he loves this course and the shot-shaping tendencies that it brings out. This forces a golfer to use the mental capacities a little more, and Kisner seems to thrive on that. Don't be surprised if we see a bounce back at this event, even though his 2018 stats aren't all that great.

Kevin Kisner has GPP upside this week

Kevin Kisner is the type of player who simply does not play well on the west coast swing. This Georgia Bulldog alumni grew up playing golf in the south and has a much better track record on Bermuda greens. With two recent missed cuts Kisner comes into this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational at a bit of a discount on DraftKings. Still ranked inside the top 40 in the world, Kisner has the type of talent and track record that demands a bit more respect than the $7,100 price tag placed on him this week. Even though he has struggled some this year, Kisner still has three top 30 finishes in 2018 and should have a good feel for Bay Hill this week. Kisner made 19 birdies in route to a T2 at last year's Arnold Palmer Invitational and feels a bit too cheap for the upside he brings to the table this week. At $7,100 it does not take much to pay off a salary, and if Kisner can come close to the performance from last year's event then he would quickly become a great GPP option for The 2018 Arnold Plamer Invitational.
