Marc Leishman Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Marc Leishman slumps his way into East Lake

Without a doubt, there is not a golfer in this field struggling more than Marc Leishman. With 800 of his almost 1100 FedEx points coming from just two events this year ( 1st at Farmers, and 2nd at API), Leishman has done very little since the start of the season to earn a spot this week. Even at the bottom of the barrel discount price, Leishman is still trending at under 6% ownership this week. Most in the world of DFS golf will just simply hit the exclude button on Leishman when building rosters. Despite his poor form, there is some merit to playing a low priced golfer at low ownership despite bad form. At 5K on a site like DK Leishman would more than pay off his salary with a top 20 type of finish for the week. When you take a look under the hood and try to figure out why Leishman is playing below his normal level it appears that the putter could be a big source of his problems. Normally an above-average putter in terms of SG putting, Leishman is in the midst of having his worst putting season ever on the Tour. Putting is typically a part of the game that we can see come back quickly for a golfer, so if Leishman can start to build a little confidence this week there is more than enough talent in his game to still play well at this level.

Marc Leishman looks to bounce back from a disappointing missed cut

With very poor play over the first two rounds of last week’s WorkDay Charity Open, Marc Leishman should end up as a golfer that many in the DFS community mark as an easy no play for this week’s Memorial. Recent form biases could create a great opportunity to take a shot on a golfer with a proven track record at this course. Outside of last week’s poor play, Leishman has an excellent record at Muirfield Village. Prior to last week’s poor showing, Leishman has shot 70 or better 12 out of his last 20 rounds at Muirfield Village. During that same time frame, Leishman has gained an average of 1.8 shots tee to green. Currently predicted to have an ownership level of less than 6% Leishman has the upside to be a difference-maker for the week.

Weather update for The Workday Charity Open

Kevin Roth's weather report for this week's Workday Charity Open has just been recently updated and is now available to read on his weather page. With Thursday appearing to a pretty even weather draw, gamers will have to make a guess on how Friday's weather forecast plays out in order to predict any edge. With a chance of stronger winds and perhaps some storms late on Friday afternoon, there is a chance that the late Thursday/ early Friday wave could end up with the favorable draw for the week. With a possibility of delays, there is a chance that Friday afternoon golfers avoid the high winds which would negate the potential edge. The uncertainty of the timing of Friday's storms makes weather a tiebreaker this week, and less of a reason to fade a player you really like. Stacking tee time waves however is a great way for those with MME builds is a good way to gain exposure to any weather draws for the week.

Marc Leishman looks to build on a good week

With multiple injury-related withdrawals, many in the DFS community found it easy to get off Marc Lieshamn during the start of the wraparound season. A very low owned golfer for the Safeway Open, Leishman was able to post a high finish rewarding those in the field who were willing to take a chance on his game returning to form. Heading into this week's event we can see the same pattern for Leishman. With two very good showings in the past at this event, Leishman will have more ownership than he did in his last start, , but with still somewhat low projected ownership there is still a chance to gain some leverage for the week. Motivated to keep his game in shape for a Presidents Cup start later this fall, Leishman has a ton of motivation to play well this week. Just a few hundred more in price than some other popular golfers the addition of Leishman to your roster builds is a great way to add both upside and leverage this week.

Rounding Into Form

The summer of 2019 was not kind to Marc Leishman. As we transitioned into the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the close of the 2018-2019 season, the bloom was falling off every rose for the Aussie. His withdrawal at the Greenbrier got the fall swing off to a poor start. That led to Leishman garnering sub-5% ownership everywhere for the Safeway Open a few weeks back… where he of course proceeded to shoot 67-65 on the weekend to surge up to third place. That certainly doesn’t mean that he is all the way back, but it’s a promising sign. I’d rather try to peg him a week early than miss the boat on his resurgence, especially since ownership will remain low at these salaries (particularly on DK/FDRFT). Leishman is a good wind player with a solid short game, and he still finished ranked 31st in par five scoring and 41st in putting during a down 2018-2019 year. I’m happy to start captaining the ship again.

Marc Leishman set to return from injury

With a few injury withdrawals in the last 8 months or so, Marc Leishman is starting to build a reputation in the DFS community of someone you can't trust. A nagging back injury has forced Leishman to pull out of a few events this year after lineup lock. The most recent came at Greenbriar a few weeks ago as Leishman withdrew after the first round. Searching through his social media post it appears that Leishman is ready to go this week and if healthy could end up being a steal in terms of ownership. Currently projected under 2% ownership it appears that the injury narrative is very much at play with Leishman. If you are doing MME build for this week, then Leishman on a few rosters would be a very easy way to gain leverage on the field. Back injuries are fickle, but it's not completely out of the range of possibilities to see Leishman have a good week. With the Presidents Cup only a few months away, Leishman will have extra incentive to get his game ready.

Marc Leishman looks to bounce back from a disappointing missed cut

An opening round of 78 left Marc Leishman in a precarious spot at last week's Open Championship. After a second round of 72, Leishman packed his bags and headed to back across the pond to play in this week's WGC event. While missing the cut at a Major Championship is never a great thing, Leishman could have a bit more in the tank than those who flew in on Monday. Priced-down in this strong field Leishman is a value play worth paying attention to in all formats. Currently ranked inside the top 15 in this years FedEx Cup race, Leishman has nine top 25 or better finishes this season. With more than enough talent to pay off his salary, Leishman in a no-cut event could end up being on the top point per dollar picks this week. Prior to his missed cut at The Open Championship Leishman had three top 35 or better finishes highlighted by a fifth-place showing at The Memorial.

Marc Leishman flying under the radar

Prior to a last-minute WD at The Byron Nelson, Marc Leishman had played well enough early this season to garnish interest at his price point. The combination of his WD after roster lock on Thursday of the Nelson and his poor play in the events after that have Leishman trending towards low ownership this week. If you value course history then Leishman at low projected ownership makes sense as a great pivot play in GPP's for The Memorial. Leishman has gained 28 shots tee to green in his last five starts at Muirfield Village highlighted by 3 top 15 or better finishes. The addition of Leishman to your roster builds is not without risk, but his proven track record at this course makes him a great pivot off other popular golfers in his price range.

Marc Leishman appears on track to play this week

Within in an hour of roster lock last week, Marc Leishman sent shock waves to many DFS players by announcing that he would not play in The Byron Nelson due to a sore back. Leishman said his back flared up a bit on Monday night and he had hoped that it would be ready to go by Thursday. The combination of the timing of his news and the lack of information regarding his injury made his choice to withdraw look very bad to many in the community. With The PGA Championship, only a week away and with a tournament forecasted to have a ton of rain, Leishman and his sore back made the right choice to rest up for this very important week. Leishman seems on track to play this week, and as expected his projected ownership is very low. For a tournament like the Millionaire Maker, Leishman is the type of low owned roster spot that could make a difference by weeks' end. Leishman is the only player in this field to have played in the last 12 major championships without missing a cut. WIth four top 20 or better finishes during this time, Leishman has the talent to pay off his price for the year's second major. Again we don't know the true status of Leishman, but if he is healthy and ready to go then the allure of a player of his caliber at this low ownership makes sense in terms of a game theory play for the week.

Marc Leishman flying under the radar

Over the next 10 weeks, The PGA Tour schedule will really start to intensify in nature. With the addition of The Players Championship in March, there will be plenty of big named players making stops stateside more often than before. Even though Marc Leishman is a regular player on tour, this newly implemented tour schedule will create some unique pricing for some events this season. More competition in events means players like Leishman could go overlooked. Leishman is in the price range of some really strong golfers and our early ownership numbers have this multiple tour winner getting lost in the shuffle in terms of popularity for the week. With back to back missed cuts at this event it will be easy for most to cross Leishman off their list for the week. Leishman is a great iron player and has the skill needed to thrive at Rivera. He has played this event for the last nine years and has three top 15 or better finishes during that time. The combination of upside and low projected ownership makes Leishman a sneaky GPP option for The Genesis Open.
