Injury creates wealth of opportunity for Buffalo defenseman

If you are looking for a punt option on defense for this short two game slate, look to Marco Scandella who has been logging massive minutes (25+) with Rasmus Ristolainen on the shelf. Scandella has two assists and 11 shots on goal in six games this month, and a matchup with the Detroit Red Wings is not intimidating. While Buffalo struggles to score, Scandella does play on the team's top power play unit and could pay off in a big way at his cheap price.

The Best Bang For Your Buck On The Blue Line!

The Pittsburgh Penguins have not only been a defensive disaster this season (22nd overall in CA/60, 30th in SCA/60 and 31st in GA/60), they are also the most penalized team in the National Hockey League. Meanwhile, despite all the practice, they are still not having much success while short-handed (ranking 20th on the penalty kill). With Rasmus Ristolainen out of the lineup due to injury, Marco Scandella has been playing huge minutes for the Buffalo Sabres at both even strength and as the Sabres power play quarterback. Considering his price and the favorable matchup, Scandella may just be the best bang for your buck on the blue line tonight.

A dirt-cheap option against the NHL's worst Penalty Kill

Ok, so Scandella has picked up just two assists through his first 12 games with Buffalo, but that doesn't mean he's not a viable value option this evening. The verteran defenseman logged over 25 minutes against the San Jose Sharks over the weekend and has now taken over as the point-man of the Sabres' top power-play unit. Scandella showed some degree of offensive upside in his time with the Minnesota Wild and has a date awaiting him tonight against an Arizona squad that is currently sporting an NHL worst 67.7% penalty kill. His upside is somewhat limited, but he's a fine bet to exceed value this evening.
