Dolphins Release Mark Walton

The Dolphins released Mark Walton Tuesday, citing a police matter as the reason. Walton was part way through serving a four-game suspension, and he could have returned in Week 14. This means the Dolphins' leading rusher still on the roster is Kalen Ballage, who is averaging 1.9 yards per rush on the season.

Mark Walton Suspended 4 Games for Violating NFL Conduct and Substance Abuse Policy

Mark Walton has been suspended for 4 games, reportedly related to offseason arrests. Kalen Ballage would appear to be the next RB in line, but he has been horrible this season, gaining 70 yards on 35 carries. The Dolphins may look further down the depth chart to a player like Patrick Laird.

Under The Radar Value RB

Rostering a Miami Dolphin can be a headache, rostering a Miami RB is even worse. But after the trade of Kenyan Drake, there is one less RB in town to get the rock for the Dolphins. There is some very obvious chalk at RB this week and Walton could be a strong pivot off of that. Walton played 87% of the snaps last week while accounting for 18% of the team's targets and 58% of rushes. Walton will do most of his damage through the passing game, but 11 carries last week was encouraging as well. Walton is extremely cheap and finds himself in a matchup against the Jets middle of the pack rush defense.

Kalen Ballage Listed as Starting RB for Dolphins

Ballage has been listed as the starting RB after Kenyan Drake was traded earlier today by the Dolphins. Mark Walton had been assumed to be taking over the starting spot, and is still likely the better play. Ballage might be listed as the starter, but he has only gained 43 yards on 25 rushes (1.7 yards/attempt) over 6 games. Compare that to Walton's 137 yards on 30 rushes (4.6 Y/A) over 5 games.

Kalen Ballage (Foot) Questionable Sunday

Ballage appeared on the injury report Friday with a foot injury. It isn't clear if he picked up the injury during practice this week, or if it just started to bother him more Friday. He had reportedly already been passed by Mark Walton for the RB2 role, and this injury will likely cement that change.

Jakeem Grant (Hamstring), Albert Wilson (Calf, Hip), Mark Walton (Illness) All Limited in Practice Wednesday

Grant, Wilson and Walton were all limited at practice Wednesday. They all have a good chance to play this week, but their progress needs to be monitored. Walton appears to have moved into the RB2 role Week 4, meaning he could see an expanded role if healthy. If out, Kalen Ballage will remain the backup RB.

Giovani Bernard upgraded to full practice

Just an addition to the update this morning that Bernard would practice. Full participation suggests he won't have any issues suiting up on Sunday. The matchup on the road against Carolina isn't ideal, but Bernard should be in line for a healthy workload filling in for Joe Mixon.

RGIII, Hayden Hurst, Mark Walton headline inactives for Thursday Night Football

None come as too much of a surprise, Hurst had even been scratched on Wednesday as he works back from a foot surgery. Walton is third on Cincinnati's running back depth chart but could be fantasy relevant if anything happened to Joe Mixon or Giovanni Bernard.
