Martin Piller Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Field update for The Rocket Mortgage Classic

With less than 48 hours until the first tee shot of The Rocket Mortgage, there has already been some player movement to report for the week. Martin Piller and Doc Redman join Wes Homan and Austen Truslow as the four Monday qualifiers. Piller has the most experience of the group and can always be considered as a GPP option. Doc Redman is a young player worth keeping an eye on moving forward and will need to play well in the limited chances earned via exemptions and Monday qualifiers. Two more spots in the field have opened up due to the withdrawal of Julian Etulain and Jim Knous earlier today. Talor Gooch and Dominic Bozzeli will take their spots in the field. All new players to the field will have projections up later today.

Additional players have been added to the pricing pool

All of the early week field movement has been accounted for and both FanDuel and DraftKings have added the new players to the pricing pools. Martin Piller and Derek Fathauer are two players that stand out the most in this group as they have plenty of experience on The PGA Tour. All of the players above have projections in our model for the week and are available in LineupHQ.

Chris Kirk is no longer in the field

Chris Kirk has decided to take a pass on this weeks Wells Fargo Championship. Martin Piller will take his spot in the field. Piller should get added to pricing pools within the next 24 hours.

Martin Piller on track to play this week

The golf superstar couple of Martin and Gerina Piller welcomed their first child into the world last week. Piller withdrew from last week's team event to be with wife Gerina, but with both mom and baby healthy this first-time father will return to work. This multiple Web.com Tour winner is looking to make the most of his third stint on the PGA Tour. With two early top-five finishes Piller currently sits in the 89th position on the FedEx Cup standings list but will need continued solid play if he wants a return to the tour next season. Piller has only made one cut in his last four starts but will look to rely on the new dad narrative to find a spark in his game. The addition of Piller to a roster this week should be reserved as a deep GPP sleeper type of play.

Weather update for The Valero Texas Open

Kevin Roth's weather forecast for The Valero Texas Open is now available to read in the main forum. According to Roth, we can expect a windy week of golf at TPC San Antonio. Unless something changes we can expect the wind to possibly effect everyone at close to the same levels. Roth predicts the chances for high winds to increase on Thursday between 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m, so it will be hard for both waves to completely miss parts of a potential windy day. For those concerned about wind, I would suggest stacking lineups with players from each wave in order to take advantage of a potential change in the forecast. If one wave does in fact benefit, then those lineups will have all six players with a chance to play in the less windy conditions. I would also suggest targeting golfers who you feel like player better in the wind. Native Texans will be in abundance this week, and for the most part they tend to play better in the wind. As always we will keep an eye on the weather up until lock providing any updates as needed.

Third time is the charm

The wrap around season gives players a chance to jump-start the year. Martin Piller is hoping that his third attempt at keeping his PGA Tour card will be his last. The Texas A&M graduate enters this season after yet again playing his way on to the PGA Tour via the Web.com Tour. No stranger to the spotlight Piller is the second most famous golfer in his family. His wife Gerina has been a staple on the LPGA tour for the last few years. For what Piller lacks in fame he more than makes up with in terms of heart and talent. Unlike his wife, Piller has professional wins under his belt. As a six-time winner on the Web.com Tour, Piller has the ability to close the deal when near the lead. The problem for Piller is that for the most part, he has not played well in his two previous stints on Tour. The one thing about Piller that most people don't know is that he is a very resilient and determined player. In every step of his career, Piller has faced and overcome adversity to succeed. As a senior at A&M, Piller struggled to make the traveling squad, but that did not deter him from turning pro that fall. Piller worked hard on his game and parlayed a win at the Texas State Open into an eventual Web.com Tour card. His six different victories on the Web.com Tour have earned him another shot at making a permanent home on the PGA Tour, and as he prepares to make his third start at the RSM Classic Piller will look to play well enough to book a spot in this event next season. Currently ranked 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings weeks like this are huge for incoming players like Piller. In terms of DFS, this now 31-year-old veteran of multiple tours will remain a deep sleeper, but Piller will offer something that does have value moving forward. If you throw out his great start last week, Piller should go overlooked in comparison to other exciting new names on the tour, thus making him a great pivot play in the lower pricing tier on most sites.
