Matt Murray Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Murray a wall on the road and on the bench

The Penguins have been inserted as a -200 favorite on the road in Vancouver this evening. This would make you think that Matt Murray should be a decent play and you’d be right. Yes the Canucks may get Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson back this evening and that can only help matters as that would mean more shots on the Pittsburgh net minder. While Murray is 4-1 with a 3.37 goals against average he has been a superb goaltender on the road. 3-0 with an 1.98 goals against average and a .957 save percentage should be more than enough to persuade you to pay up for him this evening. The Canucks have scored just eight goals in regulation in their last five games. *EDIT* Casey DeSmith has been announced as tonight's starter, which is fine as well against a Vancouver team that has found trouble putting the puck in the net.

Top Goalie Tonight?

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the biggest favorite on the board tonight, which puts goaltender Matt Murray at the top of our cash game list. The Colorado Avalanche have been a decent offense thus far, but they have struggled to score goals in the month of December, and I expect more of the same tonight. The Penguins have started to tighten things up defensively, and I expect them to control this game from puck drop. Look for Murray to walk away with the win this evening, without allowing more than two goals against in the process.

High Risk, High Reward Netminder

If you're looking for a high-risk, high-reward option in net tonight, Matt Murray is your guy. After leading the Penguins to back to back Stanley Cup victories, Murray has not enjoyed much success early this season; entering tonight's game with an 11-7-1 record with a mediocre .906 SV%. He'll have a fantastic opportunity to get back on track tonight against a struggling Flyers team that has lost seven straight games. In a game that should play at a very fast pace with Pittsburgh having an advantage at even strength and special teams, Murray should see plenty of low percentage shots to easily pay off his steep price tag at a lower than expected ownership percentage.

Pay Up To Be Contrarian With This Goalie

If you're looking for a high-risk, high-reward option in net tonight, Matt Murray is your guy. After leading the Penguins to back to back Stanley Cup victories, Murray has not enjoyed much success early this season; entering tonight's game with an 8-3-1 record with a mediocre .902 SV%. He'll have a fantastic opportunity to get back on track tonight against a weak Coyotes team that will be playing on back to back nights on the road. In a game that should play at a very fast pace with Pittsburgh having an advantage at even strength and special teams, Murray should see plenty of low percentage shots to easily pay off his steep price tag at a lower than expected ownership percentage.

Safest Goalie On The Slate

Despite the Pittsburgh Penguins poor defensive play thus far, Matt Murray should be a safe bet tonight for cash games as he faces the National Hockey Leagues worst overall team, on the tail end of a road back-to-to back. The Arizona Coyotes are not only losing games (2-12-2), they are also struggling to create offense, sitting 22nd in shots per game and 28th in goals per game. Murray may not shut out the Desert Dogs tonight, but a win and 25 saves seem like a lock. If you do not trust Murray, or simply want to save some salary, Charlie Lindgren (assuming he starts) is next up on my list. The Montreal Canadiens are a big favorite tonight as they host the expansion Vegas Golden Knights, who are also playing on consecutive nights. Lindgren has looked very comfortable at the NHL level and he was absolutely brilliant in his last start, shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks with a 38 save performance. Murray is the safer option of the two, but Lindgren has similar upside, with a much better price tag.

Struggling goaltending vs. struggling offense — which side wins?

Tonight, the struggling Matt Murray is in Edmonton to take on the struggling Oilers who have averaged just 2.2 goals per game. Murray has not been himself as the Penguins top goaltender following a successful regular season and Stanley Cup run. Although he is 7-2-1 on the season, he has put up an abysmal statline of a 3.05 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. While a road game against Connor McDavid is far from an ideal spot for a goaltender to turn things around, if the Oilers top line is off of their game, the Oilers depth is very weak. Matt Murray makes for a great tournament play as he will likely have very low ownership as most DFS players look to stack McDavid and his linemates.
