Maverick McNealy Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Maverick McNealy flying under the radar

Just a few years ago Maverick McNealy was in serious consideration for college golfer of the year. In terms of upside in comparison to consumer confidence this former All American standout has not really lived up to his potential in the world of professional golf. Hopefully, with this new season, McNealy will have a renewed interest in claiming his first PGA Tour win. McNealy switched coaches to Butch Harmon almost a year ago and could be a golfer that people have forgotten in terms of his talent. McNealy is a great ball striker who is not afraid to play the aggressive type of golf needed to win this week. Playing a ton of golf on the west coast during his college days, McNealy's putting stats are also much better on POA greens. With a sub, 6% predicted ownership level. McNealy makes for a great pivot off other chalky golfers in his price range ( Cameron Tringale).

Bryson DeChambeau returns to the site of his U.S. Amateur win

Bryson DeChambeau took to Instagram today as he returns to the site of perhaps his biggest win in the world of golf. DeChambeau won the 2015 U.S Amateur at Olympia Fields and will look to build on his past experiences for this week's BMW Championship. With a revamped game that now exploits his ability to hit the ball as far as possible, it will be interesting to see how DeChambeau plays this course in comparison to his first visit at Olympia Fields. DeChambeau will not be the only golfer in the field from the 2015 U.S Amateur. Other notable names in this week's field that played in the 2015 U.S. Amateur are also tagged in this post. Jon Rahm lost in the round of 16 narrowly missing out on a chance to win his first USGA event.

Maverick McNealy continues to shine in his rookie season

Top-ranked college golfers making an almost seamless transition to The PGA Tour has become somewhat commonplace over the last few years. For former top-ranked amateur golfer Maverick McNealy the road to the PGA Tour has been anything but quick. After turning pro during the 2017 season, McNealy is now finally a full-time member on The PGA Tour. Unable to play his way onto the tour through limited starts early in his career, McNealy had to forge his way via the Korn Ferry Tour. After missing a few cuts at the start of this year's wrap-around season, McNealy has quietly played some very good golf heading into this week's API. McNealy heads into this week having made 11 straight cuts including three top 15 or better finishes in his last four starts. McNealy made the cut at The API as an amateur in 2016, so he has some expectations of what it takes to perform well at Bay Hill. Currently ranked inside the top 60 in this year's FedEx Cup race, McNealy heads into this week looking to keep up his good play. Despite being a tour rookie, McNealy has played well enough of late to be on your radar as a strong value play the week.

Course splits to consider for showdown slates

With three courses in play this week there could be a small edge to gain by looking at how each course stacks up in terms of both score and rounds under 70. Since the 2015 season, Monterey Peninsula has been the course that we typically want to attack in terms of being the easiest course. Yielding an average of 20.5 rounds under 70 and a scoring average of .75 under par Monterey Peninsula stands above the two other courses in terms of the best opportunity to yield low scores. While this does not mean you should avoid the other two courses it's worth noting that you increase your chance of low rounds by picking golfers from the easiest course. In the same time span, the other two courses in the rotation ( Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hills) are pretty close in how they play with an average of 11.8 rounds under 70 and scoring averages near .10 under par. If you are close on two players then you can perhaps pick the golfer on the easier course.

Maverick McNealy looks to finish off the fall season strong

Now a full-time member of the PGA Tour and starting his second season as a professional golfer, Maverick McNealy enters this week looking to gain valuable FedEx Cup points. Looking to improve on his current ranking of 70 in this year's race McNealy should be able to build on his five straight made cut streak. With a discounted price across the industry, McNealy is a player worth taking a look at this week. This former Standford standout tends to rely on accuracy over distance, so he should find the courses to his liking this week.

Maverick McNealy trending as a good source of value

Playing in his first full season as a PGA member Maverick McNealy is a golfer we can target early in the season in terms of salary relief. Like a few other players in this field, McNealy earned his card via the season-long race on The Korn Ferry Tour. A few years removed from a very successful collegiate golf career, McNealy understands how important these fall wrap-around events are in terms of keeping his card for next season. Entering this week on the heels of back to back made cuts, McNealy will look to post his best finish of this young season at The Houston Open. Had it not been for an awful second round ( near the lead after round one) at this year's Greenbrier event, McNealy would have entered this week having made 3 of 4 cuts with possibly a top tier type of finish. Like many other players before him, McNealy will have to learn from his mistakes if he has any hopes of making an impact at this level. In a field where the majority of players have a price bump due to the lack of overall talent, McNealy at near the bottom in terms of pricing stands out as a great choice of salary relief for the week.

The Key To Stars and Scrubs Builds

McNealy has yet to develop consistent success on the PGA Tour, but he fits the profile of a stars-and-scrubs type of build that I think makes a ton of sense in this weak field. There’s not a lot separating the $6,500 to $7,500 golfers on DK and the $7,500 to $8,500 golfers on FD. Why not take the discount with a golfer that has similar upside? After missing his first two cuts in the fall swing, McNealy has steadied the ship with 52nd and 37th place finishes over the last two events. He showed nice touch on and around the greens in Vegas, and he gained strokes off the tee. As long as he can dial in the approach game, I like him as a sneaky top 25 candidate at a very cheap DFS price tag.

Maverick McNealy playing this week on a sponsors invite

A lot has changed since Maverick McNealy played in his last PGA Tour event. This former college standout will get to play in only a handful of PGA Tour events this season, but will primarily focus on gaining his card through solid play on the Web.Com Tour. After missing the cut in his last PGA Tour start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Open, McNealy has started to find his game on Web.Com Tour. McNealy has made his last six cuts in a row including nearly winning The United Leasing & Finance Championship at the end of April. Priced a bit higher than what we would normally like to pay, McNealy will certainly get overlooked this week. Looking to improve on his career-best T29 at The Farmers Insurance Open, McNealy is in a good spot to play well again this week. Given the opportunity to get more professional rounds under his belt, McNealy should be a little more prepared to play well this week. Still considered to be a very talented young player, this former top-ranked amateur player will look to transition his recent great form on the Web.Com tour to this week's Byron Nelson. The combination of his price and low ownership makes the choice to roster McNealy an interesting GPP option this week.

Maverick McNealy looking to make the most of his sponsor's invite

With status already guaranteed on the Web.com Tour, Maverick McNealy will try to make the most of his seven sponsor's invites to secure a PGA Tour card. This super talented former college standout finished T29 in his last start at the Farmer's and appears to be gaining confidence in his game. McNealy is in the field this week via a sponsor's exemption and is in a prime spot to keep the momentum going in terms of getting a tour card. McNealy's excellent track record as an amateur allowed him to experience PGA tour golf prior to turning pro. With the exception of the three major's, he competed in McNealy is seven for nine in made cuts on the tour, and is starting to look more and more comfortable playing with the biggest names in the game. Stars and scrubs lineups should be in play this week, and McNealy is a great option for this type of build. The guaranteed three rounds take some pressure off young players like McNealy, and I look for him to play well this week. McNealy played golf at Standford and should have a bit of experience on all three courses used in the rotation.

Looking to capitalize on an opportunity

Rod Pampling shocked the golfing world with his upset win over Brooks Koepka at last year's Shriners Open. The 48-year-old Australian had not won on the PGA Tour in over a decade and had to spend part of the 2015 season on the Web.com tour in order to secure his card moving forward. Pampling cited his passion for the game as motivation to try to win again on tour. The fall season can be a great time for a player both old and young to capitalize on an opportunity. Maverick McNealy enters this week as a young player in search of a chance to earn full PGA Tour status. McNealy turned pro earlier this year and will need to earn enough money off limited sponsors exemptions in order to receive full time playing status on the PGA Tour. As a former highly ranked amateur McNealy has played in a handful of tour events prior to turning pro. This former Stanford golfer has flashed his talent at times, but he has yet to put 4 solid rounds of golf together. McNealy shares more than his desire to capitalize on an opportunity with Rod Pampling. Both players share the same swing coach Alex Murray, and McNealy should be able to gain both course knowledge and positive vibes from that connection. The pressure is high for McNealy to play well early, and this new face on the PGA Tour has more than enough talent to make an impact. Risk of the unknown makes McNealy more of a tournament option, but I love the upside he offers at this price.
