Giancarlo Stanton scratched Sunday; Miguel Andujar replaces

Stanton has been scratched from the New York Yankees original confirmed lineup and will not start in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Boston Red Sox due to rest. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Miguel Andujar, who will now handle the designated hitter duties and slot directly into Stanton’s vacated cleanup spot in the order. However, the remainder of the Yankees lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against right-hander Rick Porcello on the road this afternoon.

Extreme flyball pitcher facing powerful lineup in an extreme power friendly park

The Yankees have the top implied run line on the board at home against Marco Estrada. This is expected and not even close. No other team is within one-half run. Estrada is an extreme fly ball pitcher in one of the most power friendly parks in the majors. By extreme fly ball pitcher, that means a GB rate below 25%. While LHBs have been just average against him (.314 wOBA), RHBs pound him (.395 wOBA). Not a good omen against a lineup full of RHBs who hit same-handed pitching well and for power. Andrew McCutchen (110 wRC+, .148 ISO vs RHP this year) gains a lot of value in the leadoff spot at a reasonable price. He has the lowest ISO vs RHP among the first eight batters. Miguel Andujar (132 wRC+, .219 ISO) has hit RHP better than Giancarlo Stanton (107 wRC+, .204 ISO). Aaron Hicks (128 wRC+, .188 ISO) drops to third and has a -49 wRC+ (11.8 Hard%) over the last seven days.

Fire up the Power Bats

We all know the drill with Marco Estrada at this stage - he's a fly ball pitcher who is definitely prone to the home run ball. His game log since returning from the disabled list at the end of July has also been nothing short of horrendous. Now, he draws a matchup with a power-laden Yankees team that is starting to get healthy. It could be bombs away in this one. We could see six Yankees in the lineup that have ISO marks over .200 against RHP this year, and they are all in play. Stanton seems to be slumping and might not be worth the hefty price, but the likes of Andujar, Sanchez, Gregorius, and McCutchen are very much in play, while whoever draws the start at first base could also be considered as part of a GPP stack. Estrada never used to be a pitcher that we liked to full stack against, but that has changed given his awful recent data.

Pitcher with no split against a lineup that handles same-handed pitching well

The Yankees are second highest of five teams above five implied runs tonight, sitting at 5.54 at home against Jordan Zimmermann, who has been marginally better than his previous seasons in Detroit, but is still in a spot where the Yankees should hurt him here. He doesn't have much of a split. Batters from either side of the plate are between a .323 and .337 wOBA and xwOBA against him this year, though RHBs actually have a hard hit rate five points higher. That works out fine for the top Yankee bats, mostly from the right side of the plate. Giancarlo Stanton (116 wRC+, .214 ISO vs RHP this season) does have three HRs against ZImmermann in 37 PAs, but that's about his average production. The offense has really been carries by two rookies in the absence of the two rookies who carried it last year. Miguel Andujar (133 wRC+, .226 ISO) and Gleyber Torres (123 wRC+, .198 ISO) have lived up to the hype. Aaron Hicks (130 wRC+, .195 ISO) adds some potency from the left side. Luke Voit has a .534 wOBA and .504 xwOBA against RHP in fewer than 30 PAs so far, but offers salary relief for stackers.

A .404 xwOBA against RHBs this season

Only the two AL East powerhouses are above five implied runs tonight with the Yankees (5.75) holding a significant advantage on the Red Sox. It almost doesn't seem fair that they'll be facing Francisco Liriano (RHBs .380 wOBA, .404 xwOBA this season), so the Yankees have decided to only field half a lineup. Not really, but only the first four or five bats are even above an 85 wRC+ vs LHP this season. The top half of this lineup should rake, theoretically, though. Aaron Hicks (116 wRC+, .272 ISO), Giancarlo Stanton (183 wRC+, .333 ISO), Miguel Andujar (121 wRC+, .229 ISO) and Gleyber Torres (139 wRC+, .283 ISO) have all punished LHP this season, though all are at different levels on the spectrum. All are at least $4K on either site, but probably still solid values. Cleanup man Luke Voit has fewer than 30 PAs against southpaws this season with wOBA and xwOBA within a single point of .290. That's not very good, but it's a small sample size and he offers top half of the lineup exposure to the top offense on the board at a price below $4K on either site.

Should be a group effort for lineup with depth despite missing key bats

Facing Reynaldo Lopez (17.1 K%, 5.18 SIERA, .369 xwOBA) at home, the Yankees are the top team on the board, the only offense to eclipse six implied runs (6.06). While he has a reverse split by wOBA (.347 to .318), xwOBA bumps up both sides to higher than .360. Batters from either side have a 34.2 Hard% with a ground ball rate below 40%. This is probably a lineup that works best as a stack with several strong bats, but Miguel Andujar (135 wRC+, .229 ISO) leading it in both wRC+ and ISO against RHP this season. Aaron Hicks (134 wRC+, .199 ISO), Gleyber Torres (119 wRC+, .202 ISO), Giancarlo Stanton (115 wRC+, .214 ISO) and Brett Gardner (97 wRC+, .145 ISO) are other bats to include.

Power in New York

If the Dodgers are the best power stack of the night the Yankees are an extremely close second. The Yankees will host James Shields and the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night as Giancarlo continues his quest for 300 career HRs. Stanton and the Yankees can’t ask for a much better matchup as Shields has given up 12 HRs over his last six games. New York secondary bats like Neil Walker, Luke Voit, and Gleyber Torres can be rostered at reasonable price tags which allows you to pay up for pitching or fill out the remainder of your roster with other heavy hitters.

Cheap cleanup bat for top projected offense

Carlos Rodon really hasn't been that bad against RHBs this season, even if the .304 xwOBA is a bit above the .270 actual with a 25.8 Hard%. However, his ERA is well below his peripherals due to a .206 wOBA, 80.1 LOB% and 8.7 HR/FB. The Yankees, at home, are in a near tie for the top run line on the board at 5.54 tonight, but it's not the type of lineup one would expect to see from the Bronx Bombers. Luke Voit had a 424 wRC+ that leads all of baseball over the last week (at least 10 PAs). He has homered three times in 15 PAs and hits cleanup for the Yankees tonight and costs the minimum on FD ($3.4K on DK). It's very likely he's the most popular player on the board considering the price of pitching tonight. The remainder of the top five batters in the order for the Yankees tonight all are above a 115 wRC+ and .230 ISO vs LHP over the last calendar year, a group that includes Giancarlo Stanton (200 wRC+, .358 ISO) and Gleyber Torres (126 wRC+, .256 ISO) with Miguel Andujar (118 wRC+, .233 ISO) the low man in both categories batting third tonight.

Power Stack

At the time of this writing the Yankees are tied with the Cubs for the highest implied run total on the slate (5.5). New York will host Carlos Rodon and the White Sox and make for a relatively cost effective stack, especially on DraftKings. Unfortunately the Yankees don't have a ton of speed upside in what's an excellent stolen base matchup but their lineup has plenty of affordable power. Specifically, Luke Voit has put up 26 and 34 DK points in two of his last three games and is sill dirt cheap - he's min price on FanDuel ($2,000) and $3,400 on DraftKings.

A dangerous slugger no LHP wants to see

The Yankees have a 5.36 run line that's actually on top of the board tonight, running closely with the Red Sox and the Dodgers at Coors. Still a terrible spot for him, Mike Minor has been pitching some of his best baseball of the season: 18 IP – 5 ER – 2 BB – 19K – 67 BF. The Yankees are missing some powerful RH bats, but Minor has struggled against RHBs this year (.331 wOBA, 17 HRs) and there are still some boppers in this lineup. Giancarlo Stanton destroys LHP (225 wRC+, .419 ISO last calendar year), while Gleyber Torres (156 wRC+, .278 ISO), tonight's leadoff man Aaron Hicks (137 wRC+, .268 ISO) and Miguel Andujar (115 wRC+, .239 ISO) have done damage as well. This lineup is still set up well in the upper half to hammer southpaws.
