Mike James Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Status update: Mike James available to make Nets debut Friday

Mike James was officially signed to the Nets with a 10-day contract, and will be available against the Boston Celtics. James is a point guard who can help out with ballhandling duties when Kyrie needs a breather. He's not in any of the rosters, but his presence could take a few minutes away from Landry Shamet and Bruce Brown.

Mike James available to make to make New Orleans Pelicans debut Sunday

The New Orleans Pelicans have announced that the team has officially signed free agent guard Mike James to a two-way contract, and he will be available to play in today's game against the New York Knicks to provide depth in the backcourt with Jameer Nelson and Tony Allen sidelined. Nelson was ruled out earlier in the day due to personal reasons, despite never appearing on the injury report at any point prior to the news of his unavailability. Nelson had recently been passed by Ian Clark in the rotation as the team's primary backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo and Jrue Holiday, so his absence won't do much, if anything, to alter head coach Alvin Gentry's backcourt rotation. Nelson's nominal playing time will likely just be absorbed by the trio of Clark, Rondo, and Holiday, but the changes in their projected value for daily fantasy formats will be minimal, at best.

I Receive The Biggest Bump

Mike James is one of my favorite value plays on the slate, and I don't expect a lot of people to look his way tonight. In 220.5 minutes without Booker on the floor this season, James has a 33.2% usage rate and he's averaging 1.14 fantasy points per minute. On the 26th of November, he played 30.47 minutes off the bench, and finished the game with a 26-5-7 line. Even without their leading scorer, the Suns have a 104.8 implied team total. That's only 2.8 points lower than their season average this season.

Devin Booker listed as questionable for Sunday

We'll need to wait until tomorrow to get any kind of confirmation on this one, but Booker is currently listed as questionable with a toe issue. If he's unable to play, T.J. Warren will become an elite target across the board and we should expect guys like Tyler Ulis, Greg Monroe and Josh Jackson. Mike James actually leads the Suns in usage rate with Booker off the floor this season (32.3% usage rate in 143 minutes), so he would become a dark-horse GPP play on tomorrow's small slate if Booker is indeed out. Josh Jackson should see an uptick in court time and would also become a viable punt play in tournaments.

Top Value Play

Mike James checks in as one of the top values on the board tonight. He has settled in as the starting point guard in Phoenix, and he is coming off a 40+ fantasy point game on Tuesday. What is even more encouraging is the fact that he played almost 30 minutes, meaning this could become more than just an even time share with Tyler Ulis. The Wizards/Suns game projects to be one of the most fantasy-friendly games of the night, and I will like James in with confidence as an upside play in tournaments.

Tough Matchup Will Create Low Ownership

Mike James got the start for Eric Bledsoe on Monday, and with Bledsoe expected to be traded, I would expect him to start again tonight. He looked great in 27 minutes on Monday, and I wouldn't be surprised if he earned an extra few minutes with the new coach. While he had four turnovers, he finished with seven assist and 18 points. I don't expect him to shoot 80% from the field every night, but this is a guy with a ton of experience. He's played the last five seasons in Europe, and he's not a first year rookie that will struggle in his new role. It's a slower game against Utah, but with them on a b2b, I expect this game to stay close and I like James for GPPs.

Devin Booker (back, hip) and Mike James (shoulder) will play Saturday

Booker and James both briefly appeared on the Phoenix Suns injury report as questionable for tonight's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, but head coach Earl Watson told reporters that he expects both guards to be available to play this evening. Booker took a spill in Friday's contest but was ultimately able to play through the back and hip contusions and finish the game, so his availability is unsurprising given the overall lack of reliability of game notes injury designations. Booker should continue to be the Suns primary scoring option on the offensive end and could end up avoiding an individual matchup with Patrick Beverley for the most part, firmly entrenching him as a tournament option on Saturday's slate. As for James, he will continue to have a minimal role in the rotation barring any injuries to the starting unit or other rotational pieces off the Suns' bench.
