Nate Schmidt Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
A heavy workload on tap for this Vegas blue-liner
With Shea Theodore still sidelined, Nate Schmidt should continue to see as much work as he can handle. He's already eclipsed the 30 point plateau for the first time in his young career and is averaging over 22 minutes of ice-time per game this season. Theodore's absense has opened the door for Schmidt to quarterback the Golden Knight's top power-play unit, which should bode quite well for him tonight as the Los Angeles Kings have posted an NHL worst 71.1% penalty kill since the All-Star break. Schmidt has scored a pair of goals and also dished out seven assists over his last 11 games and yet still sports a very reasonable asking price across the industry.
This defenseman is thrust into a more offensive role with the injury to Shea Theodore
With Shea Theodore on the IR, Nate Schmidt has taken a step forward. He is playing on the top power play unit and has seen his offense jump as of late. He has nine points in his last 10 games and has average 1.6 blocks and 1.6 shots per game over that stretch. He is in a great spot to add to that total tonight as the Vegas Golden Knights host the Vancouver Canucks. The Golden Knights have the 7th best power play in the NHL, converting on 21.5 percent of their opportunities. On the flip side, the Canucks have one of the worst penalty kill units, killing off just 76.8 percent which is sixth worst. If the Vegas power play is clicking, Schmidt should be able to get on the scoresheet once again as he takes advantage of Theodore being on the IR.
Career year for Vegas blue liner continues
Nate Schmidt stayed hot last time out as he potted a goal and an assist as the Vegas Golden Knights chased Antti Niemi from the game before picking on Carey Price in a 6-3 win. Schmidt has now picked up at least a point in seven of his last eight games, recording two goals and six assists in the process. His price has not budged across the industry as he is just $4,300 on FanDuel and $4,100 on DraftKings. On FantasyDraft, Schmidt is essentially a free square at $7,700. With Shea Theodore battling an injury, Schmidt has been elevated to the top power play, but even if he doesn't stay there, Schmidt has shown he can contribute no matter his role. Of course, an issue tonight is the high-floor, high-upside of P.K. Subban and Roman Josi, but one can only have a certain number of Nashville players on their roster. Nate makes for a nice tournament option and a worthwhile cash game option if not opting for the Predators' dynamic defensemen.
Dirt-cheap defenseman should easily pay off his salary
Nate Schmidt is the top dog in Vegas as he is logging big minutes for the Golden Knights. Schmidt has a modest eight points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 15 games, but given his bevy of minutes and opportunity on the team's top power play, it should not take much for Schmidt to pay off his cheap salary. Winnipeg has struggled on the penalty kill, as they sport the fifth-worst kill rate (76.5%) in the National Hockey League. Vegas has shown some real fortitude on home ice, and Schmidt is a super source of salary relief from the blue line tonight.
