Nick Margevicius Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Margevicius is Cheap and in a Great Spot Vs. PIT
Nick Margevicius has a nice matchup Saturday night at home vs. the Pirates in what should be a pretty low-scoring game (8 O/U). Margevicius hasn’t been great this year with a 4.14 ERA / 4.88 xFIP / 4.86 SIERA and just a 17.5% K rate with a 9.6% K-BB. He does do a solid job getting ground balls (44.8% GB rate), limiting hard contact (7.8 % barrel rate) and his 10.7% SwStr might suggest that his K rate is due for a little positive regression. The Pirates come into this game with a league-worst 63 wRC+ vs. LHP with a 27.1% K rate and just a .096 ISO. They will have just two batters (Starling Marte, Francisco Cervelli) with an xwOBA greater than .310 vs. LHP since 2018, min. 30 PA. In addition to pitcher-friendly Petco Park, Margevicius will have a great pitch-framing catcher in Austin Hedges and a pitcher-friendly ump in DJ Reyburn. The Pirates have an implied total of just 3.62 runs. At his price ($6.9k on DK, $7k on FD) Margevicius shouldn’t have much trouble hitting value as he is arguably the best pts/$ pitcher on the slate.
Lefties Against The Pirates
The lefty Nick Margevicius will take the mound for the Padres today. This is more of a price and matchup play today. This season the Pirates have really struggled against left handed pitching. They rank 28th in wOBA, 29th in ISO, and have a 27% strikeout rate to lefties this year. Margevicius doesn't have big strikeout upside but I think since this is in San Diego, a great pitchers ball park, he could pay off his cheap price tag.
Where Did He Come From
Nick Margevicius jumped from High-A ball straight to the Majors and has looked really good in his first three starts. He has a 3.89 xFIP with a 20.3% strikeout rate and a very impressive 1.7% walk rate. His 12:1 KK:B rate is really good for someone that has not pitched above High-A. Arenado and Story are the two big bats to worry about, but this Rockies offense has really struggled on the road this season. They have the third lowest wOBA against lefties, and the second lowest wRC+. It didn’t work out yesterday with Lucchesi, but I'm going back to the well.
