Nick Williams Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Lineup with power facing a HR prone pitcher in a very power friendly park

Anthony DeSclafani has allowed 14 HRs over nine starts, 10 of them to LHBs who have a .404 wOBA against him. All four against RHBs have come at home, where they have a .350 wOBA against him this year. Desclafani otherwise has fine peripherals and with a modest 4.64 implied run line, this is probably not a full on stacking situation, but players should certainly be looking at bats with power in this lineup. Everyone in the lineup except Scott Kingery (75) has a 110 wRC+ or better against RHP over the last 365 days. Rhys Hoskins (147 wRC+, .296 ISO) leads the lineup in wRC+ and ISO over that span both by a wide margin. Carlos Santana (119 wRC+, .212 ISO), Odubel Herrera (.198 ISO), Nick Williams (117 wRC+, .216 ISO) and even Maikel Franco (112 wRC+, .222 ISO) may be worth shots. Franco has the second highest ISO in the lineup against RHP over the last calendar year and a 205 wRC+ (40.9 Hard%) over the last week.

Phillies have an 5.31 implied run line without a batter priced above $4.4K

The Philadelphia Phillies have a 5.31 implied run line that's second best on the board in Baltimore against Andrew Cashner (6.9 SwStr%, .401 xwOBA, 12.4% Barrels/BBE this season). The incredible thing is that a top five stack seems extremely viable tonight without a batter above $4.4K on either site and Nick Williams (105 wRC+, .188 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) below $3K on either site. Carlos Santana (122 wRC+, .231 ISO) has a 241 wRC+ and 50 Hard% over the last week. Odubel Herrera (132 wRC+, .189 ISO) and Rhys Hoskins (150 wRC+, .289 ISO) are both $4.4K at their higher price points as well. While RHBs have just a .307 wOBA against Cashner since last season, xwOBA brings batters from either side up to just below .350. Of course, weather may still be an issue in this game.

Jeff Samardzija is throwing more sinkers to a lower exit velocity, but has just two more strikeouts than walks

Jeff Samardzija has an 85.5 mph aEV that's second best on the board and is facing an offense with the second worst strikeout split (27.1% vs RHP), but that's entirely where the good news ends. The velocity is in decline, he has not exceeded five innings in three starts and he has just 12 strikeouts against 10 walks over 65 batters faced. He's throwing his sinker 44.5% of the time in an effort to keep the ball in the yard, but his dropping peripherals have still led to a .357 xwOBA. Few thought they'd see a Gabe Kapler lineup with Maikel Franco hitting above Carlos Santana, but the former's 235 wRC+ (43.5 Hard%) over the last week puts him in the cleanup spot tonight. However, RHBs have both a wOBA and xwOBA below .300 against Samardzija with just a 27.9 Hard% since last season. Santana (116 wRC+, .219 ISO vs RHP last calendar) year is the LHB with the most power. His .387 xwOBA is 41 points above his actual from that side of the plate They have a .345 xwOBA against Samardizja since the start of 2017. Odubel Herrera (123 wRC+, .179 ISO) and Nick Williams (102 wRC+, .184 ISO) have shown more marginal power in a power friendly park. Cesar Hernandez (103 wRC+, .110 ISO) has shown none at all.

It's Always Sun(Trust?)ny in Philly

Lefties versus Julio Teheran, especially at Sun Trust, are going to be a thing all year and Monday night is no different. Despite being a strong pitcher at one point, Julio has always struggled against lefty hitters, allowing a .342 wOBA to them over his career. Teheran's skill-set has deteriorated over the last couple of years to the point where righties are also hitting him hard, making it ok to use some right handed hitters in your Phillies stacks (sup, Rhys?). This still stands as a more favorable matchup for lefties as SunTrust has played very favorable to left handed power since it's inception and strong winds blowing out can only help. If you're not sold on a full out stack, Philly hitters are a strong place to look for mini-stacks or "one off's"- Nick Williams is cheap across the industry and should (who knows with Kapler) hit fifth in the order.

LHBs have a career wOBA 75 points higher than RHBs against Julio Teheran

Julio Teheran did increase his strikeout rate to league average in the second half last season, but that seems to be his upside at this point, league average. While that's not entirely useless at the right cost in the right spot, the Philadelphia offense should be improved this year. Teheran only had a 19 point gap between his wOBA against left-handed and right-handed batters last year, but for his career it's 75 points in favor of LHBs. The top of the Phillies' order has some reasonably priced LHBs in Cesar Hernandez (111 wRC+ vs RHP), Carlos Santana (123 wRC+, .214 ISO) and Nick Williams (116 wRC+, .205 ISO), while RHB Rhys Hoskins just mashed everybody (161 wRC+, .233 ISO vs RHP).
