Nico Hischier Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Top draft pick has consecutive multi-point games
The Devils' season may be over, but Nico Hischier has been lights out over the last week, tallying three goals, an assist and five shots on goal. On home ice, Hischier has been particularly productive, picking up 20 points (9G, 11A) in 22 games. While the Kings' overall defensive numbers this season do not scream "target against", they are surrendering the fifth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (28.81 SCA/60) over their last 10 games. Furthermore, Jeff Carter left the game early last night and Jake Muzzin is in Toronto. Hischier is a nice mid-tier, low-owned selection at center in tournaments.
Value Winger Seeing Increased Responsibilities
The injury to Taylor Hall has led to more ice time and responsibilities for Jesper Bratt. Prior to the injury, Bratt was playing 12-14 minutes per night, but he's been bumped to 14-16 lately and has been on the number one line with Kyle Palmieri and Nico Hischier. While he doesn't see time on the number one power play, he does on the second unit. In his last game, he wasn't shy about putting the puck on net with 5 shots on goal. He should continue to shoot the puck in Hall's absence and makes a great value play.
This potentially underowned line has a solid matchup.
It is likely that Martin Jones of the San Jose Sharks is going to be a chalky goalie tonight which would make the New Jersey Devils a solid contrarian and leverage play. Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri and Nico Hischier would be the go-to line to use as they are the one that will be scoring for the Devils should they get their offence going. Hall has 3 goals and 12 points over his last 10 games and has 8 goals and 31 points in 28 games this season. Martin Jones has struggled immensely with an ugly 2.91 goals against average and a .900 save percentage so there is no reason to trust him.
The top line in New Jersey is an under-the-radar play tonight.
With the Florida Panthers — the New Jersey Devils opponent — likely garnering heavy ownership, the Devils are actually in a solid spot. Taylor Hall playing alongside Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri is a great line and being on the road does hurt their matchup, it's still a spot to consider. Over the last three weeks, the New Jersey Devils are putting up elite possession numbers with a 63.45 CF/60 which is second-best in the NHL. The Panthers are allowing 3.62 goals against per game this which is the second-worst mark in the league which should allow this Devils team to continue their possession dominance.
Multi-Goal Upside Once Again
The New Jersey Devils will visit the New York Islanders who are ranked last in CF/60 (46.52) in the NHL. We know the Devil’s top line of Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmeiri and Nico Hischier have been possession monsters this season, posting a CF% of 54.39 while on the ice together. This trio has multi-goal upside again in a match up they should dominate from puck drop. Will Butcher can be used for some salary relief, and correlates on the first power-play unit.
This top line is in a great spot against the Dallas Stars who are on a back-to-back.
The New Jersey Devils are hosting a Dallas Stars team that is on a back-to-back after losing to Ottawa last night. The Devils have only played three games so far and Hall hasn't scored yet but he's averaging four shots per game so I expect that to change soon. He has three assists but linemate Kyle Palmieri has been the one dominating in the scoring department putting up six goals in those three games. Nico Hischier is centering the line and with the trio remaining in-tact on the top power play unit we get full-game correlation which gives this line elite upside.
Top Overall Line Tonight
The top overall line stack of the night is the Devils top line which features Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, and Kyle Palmieri. With a whopping 32 combined points over their last 10 games, this trio draws a juicy matchup against a Rangers team that has allowed the most shot attempts and owns the worst xGA/60 over their past 15 games. Not required to play the tough minutes against the opposition's top scoring threats, home ice advantage will allow head coach John Hynes to get his most talented scoring line against one of the many weaker defensive lines of New York throughout much of this game. In a must win game for the Devils expect a big performance from this trio in an important game for New Jersey as they fight for playoff contention.
A solid salary saving option at center
Nico Hischier has put together a solid first season, posting 50 points in 78 games as he has benefited greatly from Taylor Hall, who has been absolutely dynamic this season. Hischier has yet to do much in two games against the Canadiens this season, going pointless with just three shots, but he is a strong option at center to save a bit of salary. The issue with center tonight is that the options at the top are strong plays as well, especially Evgeni Malkin who is a monster on home ice and has Phil Kessel back on his wing. Furthermore, after the Predators were pasted by the pathetic Sabres last night, it would not be too surprising to see Tampa's top line of J.T. Miller, Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov pick them apart as well given the short turnaround time. Regardless, Hischier is one of the best bargains of the evening in order to grab some of the big upside superstars on this star-studded Sunday night slate.
Rookie center has powered Devils to five straight wins
Rookie Nico Hischier ended an eleven game goal-scoring drought by potting two first period goals against the Detroit Red Wings, as the New Jersey Devils won their fifth consecutive game which has seen them score 21 goals. Hischier is playing on the top line with sharpshooting Taylor Hall who has three multi-point games during the Devils' hot streak. While Hischier has been better in road games (15 points in 17 games) than in home games (8 points in 19 games), he could not ask for a better matchup against a Buffalo team which struggles no matter where they play. New Jersey's top line of Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt makes for an excellent option in tournaments.
Cheap center certain to hit scoresheet
Nico Hishier has yet to really get it going on home ice as he has just two points in eight games compared to his eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) in seven games on the road, but Hishier and the Devils could not ask for a better spot tonight against a struggling Florida team, who finally ended their losing streak last night. Hishier centers two talented wingers in Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri, who returned on Thursday after missing three weeks with an injury. This game features the highest Vegas total of the evening, and with New Jersey desperate to get a win at home, Hishier and the top line could feast on Florida.
