Noel Cuevas Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Did Somebody Say Fireworks?

I’m going to stick with Rockies righties as my Core Plays on DK/FDRFT tonight with the way the salaries line up. There is a lot of high end offense out there, and Colorado is not by any means a must stack, but all the other top bats are very expensive and tough to distinguish from one another. Getting balls in play at reasonable salaries in Coors Field is too good to pass up. Andrew Suarez gets by with his pitching style in San Francisco, but 50% hard hits to righties is not likely to end well in this altitude. Noel Cuevas is the least exciting option for Colorado at the bottom of the lineup, but this is too cheap a salary for a batter on this team, especially one who has shown elite contact skills with just 11.8% K against lefties so far this season.

Lineup Spot Value

Batting second for the Rockies against Derek Holland at Coors Field puts any right-handed bat in play, and at this salary, Noel Cuevas is an easy fit on DK/FDRFT. We don't have much sample size here, but he has shown enough contact ability to be valuable. Batting in between Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado, just putting the ball in play gives him all kinds of ways to help DFS rosters.

Rockies should feast on Derek Holland (RHBs .396 xwOBA since 2017) at Coors

Start your daily fantasy engines. The Colorado lineup is out and their board topping 5.82 Vegas run line may actually seem a bit light against Derek Holland (RHBs .389 wOBA, .396 xwOBA, 42 Hard%, 33.5 GB% since 2017). If that's due to his 3.81 ERA over the last month, it's backed by estimators above four and a half over that span. He has a .357 xwOBA and 9.7% Barrels/BBE overall this season. Nolan Arenado (211 wRC+, .348 ISO vs LHP last calendar year) is the top overall bat on the board tonight. Trevor Story (161 wRC+, .352 ISO) is easily the top SS play. Noel Cuevas (93 wRC+, .086 ISO) is the top value in the two hole for right around $3K on either site. Charlie Blackmon (136 wRC+, .199 ISO) remains a top OF bat despite the platoon disadvantage.

The Obvious Spot for Offense

The Rockies are the obvious offense that everyone will target tonight, and while you can make a case for a GPP fade because of high ownership, we saw how that can backfire last night as the Rockies put up double digits against Jeff Samardzija and company. Derek Holland remains solid against left-handed bats, so I am not all that interested in Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, and Gerardo Parra tonight, but I am interested in the right-handed bats. Holland is allowing hard contact to RHBs at a 44% clip, and the Rockies have plenty of power RHBs that are capable of smashing lefties. Arenado and Story are very strong plays here, while Noel Cuevas and Ian Desmond provide exposure with a little bit of salary relief. Cuevas is a very strong value play if he grabs the #2 batting order spot tonight, as he did against a lefty the other day.

Poor San Diego lefty Eric Lauer must make his debut at Coors tonight (Rockies 5.74 implied run line)

Eric Lauer makes his major league debut in Coors tonight. The 22 year-old lefty does not arrive with any prospect hype and just a 40 Future Value rating slapped on his Fangraphs player profile page, but does have an above average strikeout rate with acceptable control at every level he's pitched at in the minors. An additional problem is that only 18 of those innings have come at AAA with only 55 before that at AA last season. A board topping 5.74 implied run line suggests he's like to be over-whelmed by a predominantly right-handed Colorado lineup at Coors, although there's something to be said for being almost a complete unknown to the opposing team. For the home team, Chris Iannetta (135 wRC+, .236 ISO vs LHP since last season) sees a disappointing lineup drop to fifth in the order as the most affordable prominent bat in the order. Charlie Blackmon hits lefties well (137 wRC+, .237 ISO), but may be difficult to fit with a price tag well above $5K without the platoon advantage after being shut out in a more promising spot last night. Nolan Arenado (222 wRC+, .410 ISO), Trevor Story (150 wRC+, .345 ISO) and DJ LeMahieu (144 wRC+, .214 ISO) will and should be a part of many lineups tonight. Noel Cuevas makes his debut for the Rockies with minor league numbers suggesting he's just a guy, but some consideration needs to be paid when a Coors bat costs just $2.5K on either site even if he is batting eighth.

Make Sure I'm In The Lineup

I'm really hoping the Rockies lineup comes out late tonight. I'd expect Noel Cuevas to get the start with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. He drew the start on Sunday against a lefty, and they didn't call him up to sit on the bench. He has a .431 wOBA with a 154 wRC+ and a .238 ISO in 16 games at AAA this season. In 528 PA in AAA last season, he had a .362 wOBA with a 115 wRC+ and a .174 ISO. Eric Lauer will be making his Major League debut tonight. He finished 2017 in AA and only made three starts in AAA this season. Lauer shouldn't be making his Major League debut in Coors. After reading scouting reports, he should actually be a pretty decent pitcher, but Coors is a tough place to make your first start.
