Orioles-Yankees game looks to be a high-scoring affair
Chris Tillman and CC Sabathia take the mound today as the Yankees look to complete a three game sweep of the Orioles. Vegas has given the game a run total of nine with the Yankees slight favorites. Tillman had a good start to the season but over his last six starts has a 5.81 SIERA with a paltry 12.5% K rate. Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann are the top options for the Yankees with Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Mark Teixeira secondary options. Sabathia also had a solid start to his season but the last month has seen him put up an ERA of 7.94. Jonathan Schoop, Manny Machado, and Mark Trumbo are the three you want to target from the Orioles with Nolan Reimold worth a look as he is leading off today as Adam Jones gets the day off. Joey Rickard also has the day off due to a thumb injury he suffered last night.
Duffy has struck out 19 of 75 batters in four starts, Orioles have just an 81 wRC+, 10.4 HR/FB vs LHP
Danny Duffy has pitched well in four starts outside a bad inning or two and even completed six innings last time out. He has struck out 19 of 75 batters, walking just two with three HRs in a starting role this season. A 0.0 Hard-Soft% has helped him generate more popups (13.3%) than HRs (8.9%). Baltimore is a tough park that will challenge a fly ball pitcher, but this has not been nearly as potent an offense vs LHP (81 wRC+, 20.8 K%, 10.4 HR/FB). Duffy is an extremely low priced player on DraftKings ($4.3K), who's upside could extend well beyond his cost, while $6.9K on FanDuel doesn't appear out of line either. If you want to stack Cubs with Lester on DK, this is a good spot to look for your secondary pitcher. While not suggesting a punt on all Baltimore bats, Trumbo (94 wRC+, .394 ISO vs LHP this season) and Machado (153 wRC+, .217 ISO vs LHP this season) are a bit excessive at over $5K each on DK. The other two bats that have a wRC+ above 76 against LHP this year may have a bit of value. Nolan Reimold (127 wRC+, .171 ISO) hits lower in the order, but has a 173 wRC+ and 50 Hard% over the last week. for less than $3.5K. Joey Rickard (122 wRC+, .184 ISO) has a similar cost with a much better lineup spot (2nd)
Rickard dropped to 8th, Reimold bumped up to 2nd in Eduardo Rodriguez's 2016 debut
Eduardo Rodriguez showed some promise as a rookie for Boston last year with a nearly league average 11.7 K-BB%. He's struggled while rehabbing from a knee injury in AAA over the last month with six HRs in 28.1 innings. He struck out seven in his last start, but had struck out a total of 10 over his previous four. The Orioles don't LHP (88 wRC+) as well as RHP, but this is still a tough 2016 debut spot for a pitcher who didn't exactly light AAA on fire. Rodriguez allowed a .355 wOBA, 36.6 Hard% to LHBs last season, which might make Chris Davis (113 wRC+, .197 ISO vs LHP since 2015) an interesting bat here. Though he fared better vs RHBs (.292 wOBA), Manny Machado (152 wRC+, .225 ISO vs LHP this year) has picked up his game against southpaws, while Mark Trumbo (133 wRC+, .463 ISO vs LHP this year) is always a power threat against a lefty at home. Nolan Reimold (121 wRC+, .161 ISO vs LHP this season) is an inexpensive OF bat ($3K or less), who moves up to 2nd in the order tonight.
Orioles RH bats in a great spot against Sabathia, who allowed 25 HRs to RHs last year
C.C. Sabathia is a shell of his former self, something the Orioles RH bats will be able to exploit this evening. The lefty allowed 25 HRs to RH bats last season to go along with a .370 wOBA, 2.16 K/BB rate and 5.25 FIP, making him an arm we'll want to target heavily with opposing bats. He's not missing many bats this year (15.2 K%, 7.3 SwStr%) and considering strikeouts can be a problem for the Orioles power-filled lineup, this factor makes them that much more appealing. Mark Trumbo and Manny Machado are the two top targets here, but the 1-8 hitters are all squarely in play with Joey Rickard, Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold offering solid value in the top six. Trumbo has had his power on full display against LHs so far in 2016 (.440 wOBA, .593 ISO, 44.4 hard%), and while he's a very volatile bat, his upside is massive in this match-up. Manny Machado is typically a better target against RH pitching, but his numbers against LHs are still strong (.392 wOBA) and Sabathia's struggles with RH bats should counter any issues Machado has with southpaws. Joey Rickard and Adam Jones are both too cheap on FanDuel ($2,700) each, while Nolan Reimold (who is 12-32 with 5 XBHs - 2 HRs vs. Sabathia) has hit the big lefty well in the past. It's hard to argue with rostering any of these Orioles bats, including fellow lefty Chris Davis who posted solid splits against LHs in 2015 (.345 wOBA, .200 ISO).
Adams Jones not in the Orioles lineup
No Adam Jones in the lineup for the Orioles. Baltimore will go with a trio of right-handed bats, including Joey Rickard, Nolan Reimold, and Mark Trumbo in the outfield. Drew Smyly has been fairly boom or busts to target with batters, possessing a 0.324 wOBA against right-handed batters, but giving up a massive 1.92 HR/9 to RHB.
Adam Jones not in Friday's lineup, expects to return sometime this weekend
Jones will miss another game on Friday due to a nagging oblique injury, but he expects to be in the lineup sometime this weekend. Nolan Reimold filled in last night and hit second in front of Manny Machado, which would typically make him an intriguing value play, but Chris Archer on the other side takes Reimold out of consideration.
