Norman Xiong looks to make the most of a sponsors exemption

Norman Xiong's start to his professional career did not exactly go as planned. This highly touted amateur golfer missed his first seven cuts on tour leaving many who jumped on his hype train very disappointed. Xiong is in this weeks field on a sponsors invite and will look to build on the momentum gained from his first made cut at The Sanderson Farms Invitational a few weeks ago. Xiong played his way into the lead after 36 holes, but rounds of 76 and 70 were not quite good enough leaving him with a T26 for the week. With all of the hype now gone Xiong could make for a very interesting GPP play at his bare minimum price. Trending at a very predicted low ownership number this appears to be a great spot to add a few shares of the talented Xiong. Still regarded as a very talented young player Xiong at a discount in both ownership and price has the ability to crush his salary with a made cut and a top 25.

Norman Xiong continues to gain steam

In what is quickly shaping up to be a stars and scrubs roster build week, former Oregon Duck Norman Xiong continues to gain steam as a great option for salary relief this week. At the bare minimum of $6,300, the very talent Xiong finally gets to play a course that fits his style of golf. Having barely missed the cut in his first three starts on tour, Xiong will tee it up this week with hopes of making his first check on tour. With only three professional tournaments under his belt, the choice to roster Xiong this week has less to do with his current form and more about his long-term potential. A proven winner at the highest level of amateur golf, Xiong could really end up crushing his value this week. A made cut combined with decent par five scoring should easily pay off Xiong's salary in a wide variety of formats for The RBC Canadian Open.

Patience with Pedigree

Missed Cut. Missed Cut. Missed Cut. Not the way the PANDA was expecting to open his PGA TOUR career. He was a prolific winner as an amateur and that skill is not one you can easily teach. Looking at his stats, he’s lapping the field when it comes to driving distance. That should play well this week on a course where you can typically air it out. Second, he’s posted better GIR numbers in two of his three starts. That is another stat I’m looking at closely this week since the course has some smaller greens. Lastly, he’s beat the field average on par 5s in all three of his starts. This week’s layout has four par 5s on the scorecard and all of them are scoreable. That should lead to plenty of fantasy goodness from Xiong. As long as he plays the weekend, he should easily shatter this price. A good option to sprinkle in GPPs.

Norman Xiong set to make his PGA Tour debut

With only one year of collegiate golf under his belt 19-year-old Oregon Duck standout, Norman Xiong will make his pro debut at this week's Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. The 2018Haskins Award winner should fly under the radar this week but has more enough game to make waves at a discounted price this week. In what is turning out to be a very watered down field, Xiong makes sense as a value play that could also have GPP upside this week. Xiong's college coach Casey Martin claims that he has not seen a golfer this talented at this age since Tiger. Martin was a fellow teammate of Tiger at Stanford and a very good player in his own right has been the coach at Oregon for the last 12 years. Fear of the uncertain will keep the ownership low on Xiong, but as we have seen with other heralded young players before him, top-ranked young golfers are ready to transition into professional golf and seem to be ready to seize the opportunity given.
