Offensive Defenseman Finding Form
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, or "OEL" has elevated his game lately with points in three straight games, all victories for the Desert Dogs. He's seen his ice time ramp up and played almost 29 minutes in his last outing against Florida. OEL will also quarterback the powerplay, which should be beneficial against a Vancouver team taking the 4th most penalties in the NHL. The Canucks are also on the second of a back-to-back, which could lead to some tired legs and lazy penalties.
Five-game scoreless streak offers buy-low opportunity on captain
Oliver Ekman-Larsson is down to $3,800 on DraftKings which stands out as a nice value given OEL's skill set. The Coyotes' captain is averaging nearly 24 minutes per game and does get top power play minutes. While a matchup with the Leafs does not stand out on the surface, the Leafs' play at such a fast pace which provides opposing defensemen with a good chance to pick up blocked shots which provides OEL a bit more value. Last time these two teams met, the Coyotes won 4-2 in Toronto and Oliver picked up an assist. Defensemen in this price range with a reasonable floor and upside like Ekman-Larsosn are hard to find, so he makes sense in all formats if not spending up.
Blue liner on the rise takes on NHL's worst penalty kill
Not many people know about Jakob Chychrun, but he is a talented two-way defenseman on the rise. It is strange not to see Oliver Ekman-Larsson running the point on the Arizona Coyotes' top power play, but Arizona's struggles have opened the door for young Jakob Chychrun. Over his last seven games, Jakob has picked up four helpers, but what is most inviting about him is his shot volume as he has picked up 25 shots on goal during this stretch. Jakob will be thrilled to take on an Oiler penalty kill that has been bombarded all season long as their 71.4% kill percentage is by far the worst mark in the National Hockey League. Jump on Jakob tonight in this favorable home matchup.
This defenseman has a high ceiling due to his offense plus peripheral stats
Oliver Ekman-Larsson is often forgotten about due to playing in Arizona but he is one of the best two-way defensemen in the league. He has solid offensive production with 18 points in 28 games, but his peripheral stats also give him a solid floor. OEL is averaging 2.82 shots per game and 1.07 blocks per game so when he doesn't get on the score sheet offensively, his shot volume will help keep the floor high.
Despite being in all of the trade rumours, this defenseman continues to not be distracted and produce
Everybody is talking about Oliver Ekman-Larsson in trade rumours, despite Arizona saying he isn't going anywhere. The Arizona Coyotes are home to the Vegas Golden Knights tonight, and although Vegas has been playing really well, they do still struggle on the road. Both of these teams are on a back to back, and with Lagace starting last night, Subban is likely to make his first start off the IR. This should be good for Arizona. OEL is has eight points in his last 10 games and is averaging 3.2 shots and 1.6 blocks per game over that time period. He plays in all situations and averages over 25 minutes of ice time per game, giving him plenty of opportunities to get on the scoresheet.
Struggling Road Team In Prime Opportunity
Returning to Madison Square Garden in his first game as an opposing player, center Derek Stepan has a new home in Arizona where he has found instant chemistry skating alongside talented young playmakers Max Domi and Clayton Keller. This line draws a great matchup against a weak Rangers team that allows too many shots and scoring chances for their own good. Logging heavy ice time and even strength and the top power play for a youthful Coyotes squad this season, there is no reason to assume Stepan, Domi, and Keller won't be able to easily pay off their reasonable salaries in a game that features plenty of scoring potential.
Ideal matchup awaiting this top-tier blue-liner
A home matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on the second half of back-to-back games is pretty much the most ideal matchup to have this season, and it's exactly what the Arizona Coyotes have awaiting them tonight. EOL picked up a power-play assist in the opener against Anaheim and proved to be back to full health as he logged nearly 25 minutes of ice-time. He quarterback's the Coyotes top power-play unit and already has two 20+ goal seasons on his NHL resume. With a very modest asking price, he'll be a staple in my cash game lineups tonight.
