Patrick Laird Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

MIA RB Patrick Laird signed to active roster for Sunday

Patrick Laird has been signed to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. Laird is expected to serve as running back depth behind Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. Laird is not DFS relevant at this point.

Myles Gaskin placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, out this week

Myles Gaskin has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, ruling him out this week or longer. DeAndre Washington should step in and get the most work at RB, assuming he is active after missing last week with a hamstring injury. Patrick Laird should work behind him, while newly called up Elijah McGuire is the third back. The Dolphins were without Gaskin in Week 12, and Washington led the team with 13 carries. Matt Breida, already out for this week, got the second most carries for the Dolphins. This situation is setting up fairly nicely for DeAndre Washington.

Salvon Ahmed, DeAndre Washington, Malcolm Perry, inactive Sunday. Myles Gaskin and Tua Tagovailoa both active

The Dolphins are without Salvon Ahmed, DeAndre Washington, and Malcolm Perry, all officially inactive Sunday. Myles Gaskin and Tua Tagovailoa are both active after being questionable with injuries. With just Patrick Laird and Chandler Cox backing him up, Myles Gaskin should work as the clear top back and receive a significant workload.

Dolphins activate Myles Gaskin off injured reserve

The Dolphins activated Myles Gaskin off of injured reserve, indicating that he will be good to go as the lead back Sunday. With Patrick Laird and Malcolm Perry behind him, Gaskin should work as the clear top back in a game where the Dolphins are heavy favorites.

Matt Breida, Jordan Howard and Lynn Bowden all inactive Sunday

Matt Breida was expected to be out, but Jordan Howard is a surprising scratch. That leaves Miami with Salvon Ahmed, DeAndre Washington and Patrick Laird at RB this week. The rookie Salvon Ahmed made his debut last week, gaining 38 yards on 7 carries. DeAndre Washington is active and should make his debut with the Dolphins, and the extent of his role in the offense is the big question. Laird did not receive much work last week, with 1 target and 1 carry, and he is likely to remain the third RB in this offense. Lynn Bowden Jr. has not had a role in this offense this season.

Kalen Ballage Placed on Injured Reserve, Dolphins Claim Zach Zenner off Waivers

Ballage was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Dolphins claimed Zach Zenner off waivers. Zenner is not likely to see a significant workload.

Kalen Ballage Will Remain Dolphins' Starting RB

Ballage will, at least technically, remain the starting RB for the Dolphins this week. The workload distribution is much closer to a shared backfield, with Ballage (24 snaps), Laird (23) and Gaskin (16) all getting work last game. Ballage has been awful this season, averaging 1.7 yards per rush and 2.7 yards per target. The Dolphins have the worst rush attack in the NFL, averaging just 63.2 yards per game, making it hard to get excited about any of their RB options.

Mark Walton Suspended 4 Games for Violating NFL Conduct and Substance Abuse Policy

Mark Walton has been suspended for 4 games, reportedly related to offseason arrests. Kalen Ballage would appear to be the next RB in line, but he has been horrible this season, gaining 70 yards on 35 carries. The Dolphins may look further down the depth chart to a player like Patrick Laird.
