Patrik Laine Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

This sniper is itching to get out of his cold streak.

After scoring 18 goals in 12 November game, Patrik Laine's goalscoring touch has completely dried up. He has just 4 goals in 24 games since December 1st which is absolutely discouraging. However, that is the streakiness of this kind of player. He's playing on a line with Bryan Little and Jack Roslovic which doesn't necessarily scream optimism, but his presence on the top power play unit is always going to give him an opportunity to put the puck in the net. This is a line you might as well stack in its' entirety as Laine is on PP1 while the other two — Little and Roslovic — are on PP2, so there is no PP1 mini-stack to take advantage of.

This teams second line has a premium matchup tonight.

Despite having just 31 points, Patrik Laine has an impressive 24 goals which is fourth in the NHL. His lack of assists is a bit troubling as goals can be very streaky, but when he's on he puts them in the net in bunches. This second line has been solid this season, with Kyle Connor being a surprise as the second-highest shot producer on the team behind Laine. With Little down the middle, he's not the best option but the three work well together. Laine and Connor play on the top power play unit together so they make for an obvious two-man mini-stack if you want to leave Little off the full line stack.

The hottest goal-scorer in the NHL has a fantastic matchup.

Patrik Laine is easily the hottest goal-scorer in the NHL right now. He has 13 goals in his last 10 games and while that number is a bit inflated due to a 5-goal game, he still has 8 in the other 9 games (albeit goalless in three straight). He's a streaky player as he started the season off slow at even strength. He leads the Winnipeg Jets in shots with 105 (3.89 per game) and is playing on a line with Kyle Connor who is second on the team in shots with 79 (2.93 per game), and Brian Little who doesn't really shoot much or get that many points but is just along for the ride. Laine and Connor play on the top power play unit together which makes the two-man mini-stack a viable play as well.

Hottest Center in NHL in Favorable Matchup

Mark Scheifele never seems to get the credit he deserves compared to other elite centers. Look at tonight's slate for example. He could see lower ownership than Crosby, MacKinnon, Matthews, or Tavares, but he is second only to MacKinnon on that list. He is on fire lately with five goals in his last four games, including a three assist game in the only one he didn't score in. You can pair him with his even strength linemates Nikolaj Ehler and Blake Wheeler, or go slightly more contrarian by including power play linemates Patrik Laine or Kyle Connor.

Laine Continues Goal Scoring Tear

We all knew that Laine was a decent player but scoring 13 goals in the last seven games in outright ridiculous. Yes, I know that five of them came in one game but that still makes for eight goals in six games which would still be second in the league over that time frame. The beauty of all of this is the fact that 10 of those goals have come at even strength so it’s obvious that while opponents have been busy with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler on the top line, Laine has been left with plenty of room on the ice. The Devils will also give him a few shots at the net as they have given up four or more goals in each of their last four games.

Elite Winger Bumped to Top Line

Fantasy players rejoicing when it was announced that Patrik Laine was spotted on the first line with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. While Kyle Connor has been good with this group, Laine takes the line to another level from a fantasy perspective. This is likely an effort to jumpstart Laine, who has just 5 points in 9 games thus far, despite being in the Top 10 in shots on goal this year. Stacking Laine with Scheifele and Wheeler is expensive, but it could easily be the highest scoring trio of the night.

Target This Team's Power Play Potential

If you have some extra salary to work with tonight, consider taking Winnipeg's second line which features Laine, Ehlers, and the newly acquired Paul Stastny. Among the league leaders in shot attempts since acquiring Stastny, this line has found instant chemistry for the streaking Jets. A matchup against a stingy Montreal team may seem risky, but the Canadiens are still without a number of key defensemen and have allowed the second most shot attempts and own the third highest xGA/60 on tonight's slate over their past 15 games. Also featured on the league's fourth ranked power play, Stastny and Laine should have no problems paying off their steep price against a Montreal penalty kill that has dipped to 30th in the NHL this season.

This winger has struggled after a big scoring streak

After Patrik Laine went on an insane scoring streak, he has struggled a bit with just four goals and six points in his last 10 games. He is still averaging 3.6 shots per game over that span, so he should be okay. Over their last 10 games, the Winnipeg Jets have been dominant possession-wise with a 69.06 CF/60 which is second in the NHL. The Jets are taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs who are on the tail-end of a back to back. That means Curtis McElhinney will be in net and although he has played great this season, the Jets are in a great spot tonight.

Cold snap after injury for Winnipeg winger scare creates opportunity in tournaments

Patrik Laine has been quiet since an injury scare, failing to register a point in three games since returning. Nonetheless, a mouth-watering matchup with the bruised and battered Blackhawks awaits at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois tonight. The Chicago Blackhawks have allowed a league-high 3.61 goals per game after the All-Star break as their goalies own a miserable .890 SV%. Patrik Laine and linemates Paul Stastny and Nikolaj Ehlers are an affordable stack that should be able to score at will. Laine started this month with a bang, scoring a goal in six consecutive games, tallying 10 goals in all. With the Jets' top line likely the more popular choice in tournaments, Winnipeg's second line could pay off big. Look for veteran Paul Stastny to set up Ehlers and Laine for multiple goals.

GPP Upside At Low Ownership

If you have some extra salary to work with tonight, consider taking Winnipeg's second line which features Laine, Ehlers, and the newly acquired Paul Stastny. Among the league leaders in shot attempts since acquiring Stastny, this line has found instant chemistry for the streaking Jets. A matchup against a strong defensive Bruins team may seem risky, but the Bruins are still without a number of key defensemen and are playing on the tail end of a long road trip out west. With home ice advantage at their disposal, look for Laine and Ehlers to carry the load offensively for the Jets and avoid the Bruins top line at even strength, giving them the potential to carry you to the top of a GPP with their lower than expected ownership percentages.
