Paul Turner listed as starter for Jordan Matthews
He had eight targets the last time Matthews sat, but he's spent the last two weeks in street clothes. As Matthews does, Turner will run most of his routes out of the slot. Dallas has struggled to defend slot receivers this year - Matthews posted an 11/65/1 on them earlier this year - but Turner is only a tournament flier. Tight end Zach Ertz is the safest bet on the Eagles' offense.
Jordan Matthews INACTIVE Sunday
The last time Matthews missed a game, tight end Zach Ertz led the team with 15 targets, while Dorial Green-Beckham received ten, and rookie Paul Turner had eight. Those numbers are a bit inflated as Carson Wentz threw 60 passes in that game, well above his 37.6 average. Since Matthews returned, DGB has disappeared - he's averaged 2.5 targets the past two games - and Paul Turner, who's starting today, was inactive for Weeks 15 and 16. Nelson Agholor actually led the team in receiving yards against the Giants last game and caught Wentz's lone touchdown ball. It will be tough to predict how Wentz distributes his passes among the wide receivers this week since they've all been pretty ineffective this season. The safest bet on the Eagles is Zach Ertz, who should be Wentz's favorite target. At full strength, Dallas ranks 30th in TE DVOA and they may rest some of their defensive starters. Ertz projects as a top 5 tight end in Week 17.
Report: Jordan Matthews "more to the doubtful side" for Sunday
ESPN's Adam Caplan reports Matthews was "very limited" at Friday's practice and it doesn't appear like he'll suit up tomorrow when the Eagles take on the Cowboys. The last time Matthews missed a game, tight end Zach Ertz led the team with 15 targets, while Dorial Green-Beckham received ten, and rookie Paul Turner had eight. Paul Turner will start at WR for Dorial Green-Beckham
Turner caught 6-of-8 targets for 80 yards last week against the Bengals. Although Washington ranks 20th in pass DVOA as a team, it isn't a great spot for Turner as he'll matchup with Josh Norman, who has an excellent 82.6 PFF grade this season. Plus, that eight target number was a bit inflated with Jordan Matthews out. Turner will likely see a reduced workload will have a tough time being efficient with his passes.
Bryce Treggs to start for Nelson Agholor, Darren Sproles to start at RB
With Nelson Agholor being a healthy scratch, the Eagles will give Bryce Treggs a shot to start on the outside to hopefully give them some ability to stretch the field. Treggs is lightning fast - he runs a 4.31 40 - and the Eagles have had basically no ability to move the ball in big chunks this year with their wideouts, so we could definitely see Carson Wentz take a few shots downfield to try to surprise the Green Bay defense. Philly's offense has been almost exclusively limited to short, quick hitting routes in recent weeks. Paul Turner should also see some run as the 4th receiver, but doesn't carry the same ceiling as Treggs. At the RB spot, Darren Sproles will draw the start, but expect Wendell Smallwood (and potentially Kenjon Barner) to see plenty of early down work. Game flow will likely have the biggest impact on how the Eagles use their backs.
Report: Nelson Agholor will be limited or inactive tonight
Agholor hasn't been able to get anything going on the field this season so Philadelphia promoted Paul Turner from the practice squad this week. He should be avoided in fantasy as there's a good chance he won't even be active for the game tonight. Jordan Matthews and Dorial Green-Beckham will be the receivers in two-wide sets. Matthews is expected to play more outside this week as the Eagles will put Turner in the slot. He's had double-digit targets for four straight games and should see plenty of volume tonight against the struggling Packers' secondary. Green-Beckham is a possible pivot off Matthews in the Monday-Thursday slate; he had a 5/54/1 line against the much tougher Seahawks' secondary last game and he'll come with lower ownership. Turner isn't available on DraftKings or FanDuel this week.
