Pekka Rinne Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Pay Up for Goalie
I'm not normally a big advocate for paying up for goalie, but tonight I think it makes sense to spend the salary on Pekka Rinne. Rinne has been lights out at home this season with a 7-2-0 record, 1.79 GAA, and a .935 SV%. All of that amounts to 6.1 DK points per home start, a high total for any position. His opposition, the Coyotes, have scored the second fewest goals in the NHL, trailing only the Kings. I don't expect Arizona to get things going tonight and Pekka should coast to an easy victory.
Vezina Trophy Winner Should See Low Ownership
On just a three game slate, you would never expect the reigning Vezina Trophy winner to be one of the lowest-owned goalies, but I fully expect that tonight. Rinne is on the road in a difficult matchup against the Avalanche. The number one line for Colorado is one of the best in the NHL, and are even more lethal on the power play. Rinne has been oustanding this season, posting a 5-1-0 record with a .948 SV% and 1.63 GAA. If he gets the win and is a stalwart to COL1, you'll be leaping a significant portion of the field.
This Vezina candidate is in a great spot tonight
Pekka Rinne might be the Vezina favourite at this point in the season. The Nashville Predators are hosting the Buffalo Sabres tonight and are insane -330 favourites. Pekka Rinne has put up insane numbers this season with a 41-11-4 record with a 2.25 goals against average and a .929 save percentage with eight shutouts. The Sabres are the lowest scoring team in the NHL and while Rinne may not face many shots, he has a great chance at a shutout because Buffalo simply cannot score. He's expensive across the industry but likely has the biggest upside and best chance at a shutout.
Top Goalies Tonight?
If you are looking for a safe cash game goalie this evening, Pekka Rinne is the top dog. The Buffalo Sabres have struggled to both win games and score goals (30th overall in goals per game) all season long, and they are unlikely to break out tonight against the National Hockey Leagues best team. Rinne may not see a ton of rubber in this one, but he is a lock for the win, and the shutout is certainly in play. If you are looking for more save potential in cash games, or you are trying to find the highest scoring goalie on the night for GPPs, Roberto Luongo tops my list. The Montreal Canadiens love to shoot the puck (averaging 33.3 shots per game, good for eighth overall), but they have not had much success when it comes to scoring goals (28th overall in goals per game), putting Luongo in a prime spot tonight at the Bell Centre. Look for the Panthers netminder to come away with the win while making at least 30 saves in the process.
Pekka Rinne is listed as probable
The Ottawa Senators season has not gone as planned, as they continue to struggle both on the road (7-16-4), and with their offensive production (24th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game, and 30th overall in goals per game on the road). The Senators have the lowest projected goal total tonight on this three-game slate, and I just cannot seem them doing much offensive damage in Smashville. The Nashville Predators are a sound defensive team with excellent goaltending and they play their best hockey at the Bridgestone Arena, toting a 19-7-3 record on home ice. If you are looking for safety in goal tonight, Pekka Rinne is your man, as he should cruise to an easy victory, stopping at least 25 shots in the process.
Pay Up For This Goalie Tonight
If you're looking for upside in net tonight, consider taking Pekka Rinne, who has enjoyed tremendous success this season. A matchup against a potent Flames team may seem risky, but Calgary has been getting the majority of their scoring from one line in recent games and have struggled on the power play this year. This bodes well for Rinne, who is 17-3-2 at home this season and hasn't lost a game in regulation since January 2nd. In a game that should play at a fast pace between two teams that love to shoot the puck, Rinne should have no problems paying off his steep price tag with the plethora of low quality shots he will likely face.
This Nashville Predators goaltender has been dominant lately
The Nashville Predators are hosting the New York Rangers tonight and it is expected that Pekka Rinne will be starting (be sure to check out the starting goalies page). Rinne has been incredibly dominant as of late, allowing just 11 goals in his last 7 games since January 1st. Tonight is another opportunity against a struggling Rangers team who have lost four of their last five. Rinne has an incredible 2.29 goals against average and .928 save percentage to go along with five shutouts. If Rinne doesn't get the start and it is Juuse Saros, he also makes for an elite play as he has been equally dominant. I love the Predators goalies tonight, no matter which one starts.
Home Cooking: Predators to Devour Panthers?
Rinne never seems to be a comfortable option in net, but he has been a solid option all year. He has overcome the hiccup he worked through before Christmas, when he allowed nine goals across two starts. The soft goals always feel like they will be there with Rinne, but he is in a good spot to succeed tonight. He is skating at home where he has much more favorable numbers (.921 all situation save percentage versus .914 on the road) and the Preds dominate on home ice. The opponent is a good one for Rinne as well, as the Panthers can drive up their shot totals but they typically consists of lower danger chances. Over the past month of play, Florida has produced the 14th most shot attempts per hour at 5v5, but also just the 25th scoring chance rate and are dead last in high-danger attempts per hour. With Nashville getting Ryan Ellis back in the fold, Rinne should see a fair complement of shots on net but from the less risky parts of the ice. Analysis coming soon.
This goalie has continued his great play from his Stanley Cup run last year
Many thought that Pekka Rinne was passed his prime and that a goalie like Juuse Saros was going to take over as the started in Nashville. However, Rinne dominated in the playoffs last season and has continued that into this season. He has put up a 16-4-3 record with a 2.40 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. Although the Predators are on the road tonight, they are in Vancouver, a team that has struggled to score. They are averaging just 2.64 goals per game and generating just 29.06 shots on goal per game. The Preds are banged up, but I still expect them to pick up the win tonight.
This goaltender is in a great spot on home ice
Everybody loves talking about the Vegas Golden Knights, but they have struggled to score on the road. At home, Vegas is averaging 3.14 GF/60 however on the road they are averaging just 2.49 goals per game. Nashville has been dominant on home ice with an 11-2-1 record and that should continue tonight. Over the last five years Rinne has had some up and down seasons, but he really dominated in the playoffs last season and has continued that into this year. With a 2.38 goals against average and .926 save percentage, Rinne is in a great spot for the win on home ice tonight and has the upside of a GPP-winning goalie play.
