Malnati feels under-priced and it looks like he’s going to be under-owned. That’s the best possible combination when it comes to DFS. I’ve basically been playing him every single week and he has yet to disappoint, so why stop now? He has made 13 of his last 14 cuts on tour and has gained strokes on approach in six of his last seven events. He’s one of the best putters each and every season, especially on bermuda grass. Even when his iron play wasn’t great, he was still making the cut at this event each and every year. If he can continue gaining strokes with his irons, he could easily post a top 20 finish at a very reasonable price point across the industry.

Malnati has been a regular feature of my article over the last few weeks. Throughout his career, he has been known as a great putter. In fact, he has finished in the top 20 in strokes gained putting in each of the last four seasons, which is incredibly tough to do. That type of consistency with the flatstick is encouraging, especially when that golfer starts to strike the ball well. While you don't want to bleed strokes off the tee or around the green here, most strokes at this course are gained with irons and putting. Malnati has now gained strokes on approach in six straight events (+20 strokes cumulative) and he's playing the most consistent golf of his career, making 12 of his last 13 cuts. He offers a high floor, a high ceiling, and cut equity -- all at a reasonable price point.

Outside of DJ, Malnati might be my favorite play of the week. Being a good putter is hard to sustain year in and year out, yet Malnati has finished inside the top 20 in strokes gained putting in each of the last four years on tour. He’s always been more Kevin Kisner-like than Luke List-like in that his short game is better than his ball striking. However, that’s recently started to turn around. In his last four events, he has gained 17 strokes on approach. If he’s positive in the ball striking department and can find a hot putter, he could be in contention on Sunday.

I missed Peter Malnati last week after finding him as a sneaky play back at the Memorial. He finished T30 last week which may not raise eyebrows for most, but his irons continue to be really strong. His longer term form shows his inconsistencies come from the Driver, but of late he seems to be managing those tee shots well and putting himself into position to hit his irons close. His irons werent quite as good as Hoffman last week, gaining strokes on 56% of his approach shots, but at this price these numbers are well above the range average.
