Pontus Aberg Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Injuries are starting to hurt this team but the top line is still in play.

With Rickard Rakell going down with an injury, we have a new-look top line in Anaheim. Ryan Getzlaf will be centering Ondrej Kase and Pontus Aberg on the ducks top line. Kase has been great since returning from injury with 11 points in 14 games including 10 in his last 10. Aberg and Kase play on the same power play unit, but it's PP2 which is a bit discouraging but it still makes for a viable and somewhat cheap two-man stack. They host the Dallas Stars who have struggled over the last three weeks allowing 60.51 CA/60 which is the fourth-worst and struggled with possession with just a 46.14 CF% which ranks 27th.

Facing a bad goalie can change the fortunes of a struggling offence.

The Anaheim Ducks are 26th in the NHL with a 46.79 CF% and 28th with a 50.84 CF/60 over the last three weeks, but tonight might be a good game for things to turn around. They are hosting the Carolina Hurricanes who have some terrible goaltending. It's currently uncertain who will start tonight but it sounds like it will be Petr Mrazek. He has struggled this season with a 2.56 GAA and an .894 SV% and although the Ducks offense has been non-existent, there is some hope tonight. Ryan Getzlaf is centering Rickard Rakell and Pontus Aberg on the top line and leads the team with 22 points in 24 games. While Rakell is the shooter in terms of sheer volume (he leads the team with 87 SOG), his 5.7 percent shooting percentage leaves a lot to be desired. Though it with that low and his career number at 12.7 percent, I expect things to turn around for Rakell soon.

Overlooked Jet opens up roster construction

Mathieu Perreault doesn't see much ice time like he used to, but the Jets draw the best matchup of the night. Perreault is more of an option on DraftKings ($2,700) given the dirt-cheap price tag and tighter pricing than on FanDuel ($3,400) where pricing is softer. Perreault has picked up an assist in three straight games, and he still sees time on the team's second power play unit. Punting with Perreault really opens up some salary to grab some of the Jets' superstars or grab a strong defenseman.

On FanDuel, Pontus Aberg is still $3,700 and a better option than Perreault given the four skaters per team limit and overall salary structure. Aberg has been rock solid over his last three games. Andrei Svechnikov is another source of salary relief at wing.

This line has sneaky potential on home ice tonight.

Rickard Rakell has been firing the puck on net with 85 shots in 29 games — 30 more than second on the Anaheim Ducks. Although he isn't the leading goal-scorer, which is surprising when you consider that it is waiver wire pick-up Pontus Aberg who leads the team with nine goals. These two are centered by Ryan Getzlaf on the Ducks top line as they host the Chicago Blackhawks. While Aberg is relegated to the second power play unit, the duo of Getzlaf and Rakell play on the top unit and make for an intriguing mini-stack if you don't want to go with all three.

Speedy Swedish winger sparked Ducks to heroic comeback

While Pontus Aberg is priced appropriately (excessively in fact) on DraftKings ($5,500), Aberg is wrongly priced on FanDuel where he is just $3,700, making him a building block in all formats. Aberg has shown flashes of brilliance this season, and a move back to the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell enhances his value. Aberg has seen 15 minutes in each of his last two games, scoring three goals and an assist on six shots. The Ducks and Aberg draw one of the best matchups in the National Hockey League tonight as the Blackhawks have been bleeding goals (3.68 GA/G) all season long.

Four goals on four shots in his last two games

Certainly Pontus Aberg will not continue to score on every shot taken, but for the time being, the Stockholm native is worth your consideration, especially given his minimum price tag (DraftKings - $3,000 & FanDuel - $3,100). Aberg logged 15 minutes of ice time and potted a pair of goals against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, and last time out, he logged a season-high of 17:58, scoring the Ducks' only two goals in a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Skating on a top line with captain Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell provides Aberg with a lot of opportunity, and his salary has yet to adjust to the hot streak.

Forsberg suspension opens door for youngster

Pontus Aberg has not done much in his short NHL tenure, but with all the talent on the team, it is understandable as he does not see much ice time. Aberg is no stranger to finding the scoresheet as last season in the AHL, Aberg accumulated 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists) in 56 games. As of the morning skate, Aberg is (again) scheduled to skate on the top line with Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson. While there is no guarantee he will start on the top line, he becomes a fantastic punt if so. Aberg is an immensely talented, offensive-minded winger whose speediness could cause chaos for a Toronto team that struggles defensively at times. Aberg will not see any power play time, but he costs nothing across the industry (FanDuel - $3,100, DraftKings - $3,000). If you are filling out a roster and need a worthwhile punt on the wing, Pontus seems like a good way to go.

Punt this Predator and load up elsewhere

We have yet to see Pontus Aberg play like he is capable of, as the Stockholm, Sweden native has just six points in 33 games. However, Aberg is immensely talented. Last season with the Milwaukee Admirals, Aberg accumulated 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists) in 56 games. With Filip Forsberg suspended until Saturday, Aberg will again join the top line with Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson. Although Aberg does not see too much ice time, it is reasonable to expect 14-15 minutes tonight. The matchup for Nashville is as good as it gets as the Islanders are allowing a staggering 3.60 goals per game. Last month, the Islanders surrendered over 40 shots on goal which led to a 3.85 GA/G and -1.08 goal differential. Aberg's speed could be influential tonight against a team that spends far too much time in their own zone.

A new opportunity for this Nashville youngster

Sure, the kid only has six points through 34 games with the Predators this season, but he's about to get a shot at playing alongside Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson on Nashville's top forward line this evening. Aberg showed plenty of offensive upside in Nashville's playoff run last season (5 points and 23 SOG in 16 games) and has been an offensive force for the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL the last three seasons. With the New Jersey Devils sputtering at the moment, Aberg is a fine value option in all game formats this evening.
