Roberto Luongo Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Veteran netminder draws perhaps the best matchup of the night
While Florida will miss the playoffs, they still have been a solid team in the second half of the season. The long-term injury to Vincent Trocheck early in the season really was too much to overcome. Additionally, Roberto Luongo missed considerable time this season. Nonetheless, Lu will start tonight and takes on a New Jersey team which just cannot score in the second half of the season, averaging just 2.16 goals per game - the worst mark in the National Hockey League. There are a number of viable options in net tonight, Matt Murray being the safest option, but if you need a little savings, Roberto checks in at just $7,800 on FanDuel and he is $400 cheaper than Murray on DraftKings. It is a slate where even a couple hundred dollars in salary relief can go a long way.
Veteran back stop checks in as largest favorite of the night
Finding a goalie you can count on in the 2018-19 season has been a nightmare with the surge in scoring. Even Roberto Luongo tonight has a lot of red flags, but there are things that are working in his favor. Luongo always sees a good number of shots, and the Rangers could start slow given that this was their "bye" week, and they have not played since last Sunday. Florida's depth is not the greatest, especially with Vincent Trocheck and Nick Bjugstad out, but the Panthers' top line can be enough to carry them to a victory. Luongo's price is $7,900 on DraftKings and $7,800 on FanDuel, though the softer price on FanDuel stands out much more. On DraftKings, the cheap price tag on Aaron Dell ($7,400) emerges as a nice value, but the spot isn't the greatest. Luongo will be the popular choice in cash games.
GPP Upside Goalie
Returning to South Florida where he began his illustrious career, Roberto Luongo has been everything the organization has hoped for after acquiring him in a blockbuster trade just a few seasons ago. Don't let his mediocre win/loss record fool you, Luongo appears to be back to playing at an elite level for the Panthers this season; entering tonight's game with a solid .926 SV% this season. Tonight he will be up against an inconsistent Carolina team that ranks 23rd in scoring on the this season despite regularly outshooting their opponents. With Florida still having an outside shot at a playoff spot, Luongo makes for a solid tournament play with the plethora of low quality shots likely headed his way in a very winnable game for the Panthers
At 38 years old, this goalie is on pace for one of his best seasons of his career
Roberto Luongo is pretty old for a goalie. At 38 years old, he is having one of the best seasons of his career and not really showing any signs of slowing down. He has put up a very solid 2.55 goals against average and .927 save percentage despite injuries limiting him to just 29 games. Maybe that is the sign of his age, the injuries, rather than his skill level. Anyway, the Panthers host the Coyotes tonight and are the second biggest favourite on the slate. Arizona has been playing better lately, however they still lack high-end skill up front so even if they are generating shots and chances, the players are pretty bad that are taking those shots. Luongo is in a great spot for a win tonight and also has one of the better chances of the goalies on the slate to pick up a shutout. Although he is very expensive, sometimes paying up for the upside is worth it and he may be the goalie you need in tournaments tonight.
Top Goalies Tonight?
If you are looking for a safe cash game goalie this evening, Pekka Rinne is the top dog. The Buffalo Sabres have struggled to both win games and score goals (30th overall in goals per game) all season long, and they are unlikely to break out tonight against the National Hockey Leagues best team. Rinne may not see a ton of rubber in this one, but he is a lock for the win, and the shutout is certainly in play. If you are looking for more save potential in cash games, or you are trying to find the highest scoring goalie on the night for GPPs, Roberto Luongo tops my list. The Montreal Canadiens love to shoot the puck (averaging 33.3 shots per game, good for eighth overall), but they have not had much success when it comes to scoring goals (28th overall in goals per game), putting Luongo in a prime spot tonight at the Bell Centre. Look for the Panthers netminder to come away with the win while making at least 30 saves in the process.
This goalie is fresh off of a 40 save shutout
Although he has missed some time with injury, Roberto Luongo has really turned back the clock this season. He has been a beast. Over his shortened season Luongo has put up a 13-7-2 record, a 2.50 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. His numbers have been just as similar over his last 10 games with just a bit better of a GAA. The Panthers are hosting the NY Rangers, a team that is in the bottom five in goals for since January 1st and allowing the most goals in the NHL. Luongo should get an easy win and coming off a shutout, it is worth paying the steep price for him this season.
Low Risk, High Reward Goalie
Returning to South Florida where he began his illustrious career, Roberto Luongo has been everything the organization has hoped for after acquiring him in a blockbuster trade just a few seasons ago. Don't let his mediocre win/loss record fool you, Luongo appears to be back to playing at an elite level for the Panthers this season; entering tonight's game with a solid .930 SV% on home ice this season. Tonight he will be up against an inconsistent Montreal team that ranks 30th in scoring on the road this season and will be without their best forward in Max Pacioretty. With Florida getting healthy on defense and starting to kill off penalties, Luongo makes for a solid tournament play with the plethora of low quality shots likely headed his way.
Top Goalie Tonight
When the Montreal Canadiens are in action, it is never a bad idea to roster the goalie against them. The Habs love to shoot the puck (averaging 33.5 shots per game, good for seventh overall in the National Hockey League), but they just cannot seem to score goals (ranking 29th overall on the on the season and 27th overall this month), and losing their best goal scorer in Max Pacioretty is certainly not going to help matters. Luongo has been a rock in net for Florida when healthy this year, especially on home ice (8-2-1 record with a .930 SV%), and I think we see him lead his team to another victory tonight at the BB&T Center. If we consider both the Canadiens high shot totals and their inability to score, and combine that with amount of shots on goal the Panthers allow on nightly basis, Luongo should not only win, but he could very easily be the highest scoring goalie tonight on this huge 12-game slate.
Underpriced Goalie With Tremendous GPP Upside
Returning to South Florida where he began his illustrious career, Roberto Luongo has been everything the organization has hoped for after acquiring him in a blockbuster trade just a few seasons ago. Don't let his mediocre win/loss record fool you, Luongo appears to be back to playing at an elite level for the Panthers this season; entering tonight's game with a solid .931 SV% at even strength. Tonight he will be up against an inconsistent Islanders team that can be exposed on the road. With Florida getting healthy on defense and starting to kill off penalties, Luongo makes for a solid tournament play that will likely fly under the radar tonight.
Veteran goalie looks for monster performance
Luongo has won four of his last five starts, allowing just eight goals in the process. While a matchup with Chicago is intimidating on the surface, the Blackhawks have not been that great on the road, where they are averaging just 2.55 goals per game. Luongo routinely sees 30-plus shots as he thrives under the pressure. With others like Carey Price and Jake Allen in similar price ranges, Luongo emerges as a fantastic option in tournaments as the Blackhawks' name alone will shy away ownership. If you are looking for a cheap, high upside guy, look no further than Florida netminder Roberto Luongo.
