Rodions Kurucs Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

PJ Tucker (ankle) and Rodions Kurucs (arm) ruled out Sunday; Bryn Forbes (thigh) a game-time decision

Of the three Bucks questionable players, at least two of them will have to sit out against the Atlanta Hawks. Tucker was downgraded to out due to his ankle injury, while Kurucs was ruled out due to bicep injury. Forbes will test out his thigh injury during warmups and will be a game-time decision. With no Tucker, it's likely a few more minutes for Bobby Portis and possibly a re-entry into the rotation for Thanasis Antetokoumpo. Kurucs usually only plays in garbage time so his absence won't be relevant. If Forbes sits, it'll elevate Pat Connaughton's minutes by a few as well.

On the second half of a back-to-back, the Bucks could be without some of their bench depth as they prepare to play the Atlanta Hawks. Forbes and Tucker are the bigger names to watch, as they are both regulars in the rotation. Forbes usually plays 15-18 minutes off the bench for guard depth, while Tucker plays around 19 minutes or so and helps out for frontcourt depth. Neither player on their own are great DFS plays, but if they both sit, it could be a few more minutes for the Bucks starters, as well as Bobby Portis and Pat Connaughton off the bench.

Rodions Kurucs is expected to play

Rodions Kurucs will play tonight, after being considered doubtful earlier in the day. He may make for a good low-owned play, but you might question how effective he will be able to be or how many minutes he will play due to the previous designations. Still, something to consider here.

Rodions Kurucs is listed as doubtful

With Kurucs doubtful and Crabbe out, the Nets will have to find players to fill the minutes. This should be a small bump to the DeMarre Carroll and Jared Dudley roles with Kurucs likely to miss, but the DFS impact should be fairly minimal. D'Angelo Russell is still very much the alpha on this team and that shouldn't change tonight.

DeMarre Carroll returns to the starting lineup

DeMarre Carroll returns to the starting lineup tonight vs The Lakers. Carroll will join Rodions Kurucus in the frontcourt pushing Caris LeVert to the bench. Historically a good defender the addition of Carroll to the starting lineup is to help provide defense against LeBron James. Priced down Carroll becomes a source of value assuming he gets a decent amount of run. The emergence of Jared Dudley playing better of late allows for Carroll to move to the first unit without sacrificing defense in the second unit.

Rodions Kurucs (elbow) out Wednesday

Kurucs has been added to the Nets' injury report and won't play in Wednesday's matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to a sprained left elbow. The Nets are still without Jared Dudley and Spencer Dinwiddie, so Rondae Hollis-Jefferson appears to be the likeliest candidate to the receive the starting nod at power forward, and he's typically been seeing minutes in the low-20s off the bench in recent games. Caris LeVert and Shabazz Napier are also in consideration to join the starting lineup, though head coach Kenny Atkinson seems to prefer bringing LeVert off the bench to fill Dinwiddie's vacated sixth-man role and Napier has been serving as the backup point guard in his absence. Kurucs has played 17 or fewer minutes in two of the last three games, so his absence shouldn't be expected to drastically alter Atkinson's frontcourt rotation as a whole this evening.

On The Rise

Kurucs is quietly becoming a key cog in the Brooklyn rotation, and his minutes have steadily been on the rise this month. He has been starting in place of the injured Allen Crabbe, and he is averaging 20 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over 34 minutes in the last two contests. It’s obviously a small sample size, but he looks more confident and has been taking more shots on the offensive end, too. His size often creates mismatches on the wing, and this could be a sneaky shootout between the Nets and Hornets. Both teams are below average defensively and don’t mind running, making Kurucs a safe cash game value with Crabbe confirmed out again.

Should Continue To Fill In

With Allen Crabbe already ruled out for tonight's game, I'm going right back to the well on Rodions Kurucs. He's done a great job filling in for Crabbe, outside of the game against the Lakers where he got into foul trouble. He's played at least 28 minutes in four of the last six games and has at least 20 fantasy points in all of those four games. He has attempted 26 shots over the last two games and is coming off his best all-around game of the season.

Increased Minutes Because Of Injury

This is a late add for me, but Rodions Kurucs is one of my favorite value plays with Allen Crabbe out again. He's played 28 and 29 minutes in the last two games and has at least 20 fantasy points in three straight games. He's going to see increased minutes yet again with Crabbe out, and draws an excellent matchup against the Lakers. This game has the second highest total on the slate, and at his price, he's a top option for me.

Rodions Kurucs will start in place of Allen Crabbe (knee) on Friday

Crabbe was officially downgraded from questionable and won’t play in Friday’s matchup against the Washington Wizards due to a sore right knee. Spencer Dinwiddie has typically started alongside D'Angelo Russell in the backcourt when the Nets are down a starting wing and did so when Joe Harris was sidelined for a stretch of games earlier in the year. DeMarre Carroll was also an option to enter the starting lineup, but head coach Kenny Atkinson has been hesitant to give him extended minutes and has resulted in Carroll surpassing the 24-minute mark on just three occasions all season. Thus, Rodions Kurucs will receive the starting nod and has seen his playing time gradually increase over the last three games. Dinwiddie has thrived without Crabbe on the court this season, and he is averaging 1.18 DraftKings and 1.17 FanDuel points per minute with a 33.2% usage rate (+7.4%) in this scenario.
