Roman Josi Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Look for a big game from this defenseman
With a win on home ice this evening, the Nashville Predators will have successfully wrestled the top spot in the Central Division away from the Winnipeg Jets. This should be enough of a reason to come out and basically take the game away from the Colorado Avalanche who in their own right have been playing some good hockey of late. Josi leads the team with five goals and 13 assists over the last 10 games which has helped him to be the sixth best defensive scorer in the league with 51 points this season. He also skates on the team’s top power play unit that will go against a Colorado team that has given up 10 power plays goals over the last 11 games.
Injuries have created a great opportunity for this cheap line stack
Craig Smith, Kyle Turris, and Calle Jarnkrok come in as a very cheap line stack on a night where there is a lot of high priced line stacks to pay up for. Injuries have plagued the Nashville Predators all season, creating slightly more ice time and opportunities for Nashville’s second line. On top of that, on home ice this line is typically matched up against the opposition’s weaker lines, and gets the most offensive zone faceoff’s. With Kyle Turris back last game, you get two-thirds of the team’s top power play unit. Adding either defensemen Roman Josi, or Ryan Ellis gives you power-play correlation, and multiple ways to differentiate your lineup. Josi is my preferred option if salary is available.
Puck-Moving Defenseman Finding His Stride
After a slow start to the year (two points in his first seven games), Roman Josi has been heating up with seven points in his last five games. While Josi is known more for his skating and puck-moving than his shot, he has three goals in his last four games, including a power play marker. He'll take on a Ducks team allowing the second most shots per game at 36.9. The Predators should control the pace and Josi will be right in the middle of the action.
Save salary with this line stack with sneaky upside
The Nashville Predators will host the New York Islanders tonight. The Pred’s second line is almost free, and provide huge upside in this matchup. The Islanders were one of our favorite teams to pick on last year, and they lost superstar John Tavares in free agency. Nashville’s second line featuring Craig Smith, Kyle Turris, and Kevin Fiala has a HDCF%(Percentage of high danger scoring chances) of 61.54 when they are on the ice together. This suggests that their one goal as a line so far is a result of bad luck. They also get a large percentage of the teams offensive zone face-offs. Look for this line to go under the radar tonight, and at their low salaries, they can be paired with other high priced lines. You can pair them with defensemen Roman Josi or Ryan Ellis. Josi being my preferred option is salary is available.
Uptempo Game Should Suit Speedy Defenseman
Roman Josi is off to a slow start by his lofty standards, but it's only a matter of time before he starts finding the scoresheet. Tonight, he'll face the Flames in what should be an uptempo game, the type where Josi normally excels. He is one of the best skaters and puck movers in the NHL, and should have the opportunity for multiple assists. At $5,700 on DraftKings, he offers a huge discounts to more expensive players like Karlsson and Burns.
Home Ice Benefits This Line In Potential Shootout
If you're looking for an under the radar stack tonight, consider Nashville's second line which features Craig Smith, Kevin Fiala, and newly acquired Kyle Turris. Back home where they play their best hockey, this trio draws a sneaky good matchup against a Winnipeg Jets team that will be playing on tired legs following a tough loss to Washington last night. Despite shoring up their penalty kill this year, Winnipeg continues to take too many penalties for their own good. This bodes well for the second line of Nashville, who have combined for 25 power play points at home this season and won't be tasked with shutting down Blake Wheeler or Patrik Laine with home ice advantage on their side.
This defenseman is on a tear as of late
Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators has been dominating as of late. Over his last 10 games, he has one goal, 13 points while averaging 1.9 blocks and 3.5 shots per game. This gives him a 5.4 DraftKings points average over that time frame. Tonight, the Predators visit Colorado to take on the Avalanche, a team that has struggled preventing shot attempts as of late. Over the Avs last 10 games, they are allowing a 66.12 CA/60 which ranks second last in the NHL. With Josi providing elite peripherals in the blocks and shots categories, he doesn't need to get on the scoresheet to provide value, though when he does he can put up GPP-winning numbers.
Super-star defenseman coming on strong
The Nashville Predators have arguably the strongest blue-line in the NHL, and while P.K. Subban may actually be leading this team with 48 points on the season, it's been Roman Josi dominating play of late. Josi's five game point streak may have come to an end in Edmonton last night, but the former second round pick racked up an impressive 16 points in just 14 games during the month of February. Josi is locked into as many minutes as he can handle on a nightly basis (he's averaging nearly 25 minutes per game this season) and has dished out a pair of assists against the Vancouver Canucks in their two prior meetings this season. With the Canucks owning the 26th ranked penalty kill in the NHL at 77%, Josi looks to be well worth the investment in all game formats this evening.
Offensive Blue Line Options
The Edmonton Oilers are not only playing poor defensive hockey, they have also struggled mightily while short-handed, ranking dead-last in the National Hockey League on the penalty kill, which opens the door for the Nashville Predators three-headed monster. With a very favorable matchup on deck, all three of the Nashville Predators power play quarterbacks (P.K. Subban, Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis) are in play across the board tonight, with Subban and Josi leading the way. Keep in mind that if you are stacking the Predators tonight, Subban rolls with the Predators number one line on the top power play unit, while Josi and Ellis skate with the second line on the second power play unit.
Revenge Game For This Playmaker
Returning to Ottawa where he spent the majority of his career, Kyle Turris and the second line of Nashville will look to get back on track following a rough loss to Toronto last night. Despite their recent struggles, Nashville's second line which features Craig Smith, Kevin Fiala, and newly acquired Kyle Turris are primed for a major bounce back game tonight against a weak Ottawa defense that allows the most shot attempts on home ice and own the league's second worst adjusted xGA/60 over their past 15 games. Narratives aside, this trio draws a fantastic matchup against an undisciplined Senators squad that continues to take too many penalties for their own good and ranks 28th in penalty kill percentage this season. This bodes well for the second line of Nashville who have combined for 36 power play points this season.
