Rory Sabbatini Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Rory Sabbatini and Branden Grace have been added to the pricing pool

During a normal tour event, the addition of a late player to the field is usually not a player that we would have interest in adding to a roster build. This is not a normal week, and the alternate list for the second major of the year has some pretty good players that would love to gain entry into the event. Rory Sabatini and Branden Grace have both been added to the pricing pool and are ready to use in LineupHQ. Both players have some merit in terms of roster consideration for the week. Sabbatini is a steady ball striker that plays a style of golf that relies on an accurate iron game and timely putting. Although it's been a few years, Grace has faced the pressure of a major championship and knows what it takes to win the U.S. Open. Neither player should carry much weight in terms of ownership, but both are solid options in terms of a GPP flyer.

Rory Sabbatini will take the place of Sam Horsfield in the U.S. Open field

Sam Horsfield will not play in this week's U.S. Open as he has tested positive for COVID-19. Rory Sabbatini will take his spot in the field. Players added to the field after prices were released should get added to the pricing pool by Tuesday.

Very Affordable Price Tag

This price tag is simply too cheap for Sabbatini, particularly on both DraftKings and FanDuel. He is a better golfer than this tag would indicate, even though he doesn’t grade out quite as well statistically as some others. He has played in several stronger field events, and an inconsistent putter has grabbed him a bit of late. However, he still has three top 25 finishes since the restart, and he has a 6th place finish and a 4th place finish at this event over the last three years. He has plenty of upside in the mid-range here.

Rory Sabbatini continues to be a horse for this course

One week after a very disappointing missed cut, Rory Sabbatini, rebounded with a very strong top 20 finish. Priced-down in this limited strong field, Sabbatini could once again be a difference-maker in his salary range. With his 17th place finish at last week's WorkDay Charity Open, Sabbatini now has a top 30 or better in 8 of his last 11 starts at Muirfield Village. With five of those top 30 or better finishes coming inside the top 20 Sabbatini provides upside needed to be a difference-maker for the week. Despite a less than desirable final round at last week's WorkDay Charity Open, Sabbatini gained strokes across the board last week.

Rory Sabbatini looks to bounce back from an off week

Despite both a positive course fit and great recent form, Rory Sabbatini struggled to play well at last week's Rocket Mortgage. Sabbatini hit some quality shots in his first round last week, much better than his score of 76 would indicate. The combo of zero birdies ( multiple looks inside of 10 feet) and a few bad holes left Sabbatini in too big of a hole on a course that played pretty easy. Heading into this week's event with a pretty big price discount, Sabbatini looks to be a decent source of value. For those with a short memory, Sabbatini could be a difference-maker this week. Sabbatini has 8 career top 30 or better finishes in 12 tournaments at Muirfield Village.

Rory Sabbatini flying under the radar as a strong value play

While there will be a ton of fanfare for players like Ryan Palmer who is both a native Texan and Colonial member, there are other players with ties to this course that you can attack for value. Playing in his 20th career Charles Schwab Challange, Rory Sabbatini is a player you can always look to target on a course like Colonial. Accurate iron play and timely putting have been a benchmark of this PGA Tour veteran's career, and as a past champion of this event, Sabbatini should once again feel at home in the lone star state. Prior to his most recent marriage, Sabbatini did, in fact, call the DFW area home and has a ton of local knowledge on how to handle this historic course. In addition to his win at this event, Sabbatini has six top 20 or better finishes. Currently projected at a sub 2% ownership number, the addition of Sabbatini to your roster pool is a great way to grab exposure to a player who feels right at home when playing at Colonial.

Not Sure Why, but this Golfer is Flying Under the Radar

Given the stars and scrubs nature of my builds, I will be looking for value plays that I think can make the cut. I'm really not sure how many of the cheap golfers will contend this week, so I'll side with safety over upside when it comes to the cheap golfers. Sabbatini certainly fits the mold and it doesn't look like he's going to garner a lot of ownership. I'm not sure what I'm missing, as he's made six straight cuts and 22 of his last 24 on tour. That's extremely impressive for a golfer that is consistently priced as a value play. The best part about Sabbatini is that he doesn't have a weakness in his game. He gains strokes off the tee, on approach, around the green, and on the greens. If you are a course history truther, he's made five of six cuts here in the past. Other than this being a strong field, I can't find any negatives with Sabbatini and will gladly be overweight on him at sub-10% ownership.

Sometimes it Pays to Play it Safe

Sabbs is a golfer that I always seem to be higher on than the field. While I don't expect him to be low owned this week, I do expect his ownership to be lower than it should given how strong of a play he is at this price point. After struggling with consistency for years, he has made 20 of his last 22 cuts on the PGA Tour. You'd be surprised how much better that cut percentage is than many of the top golfers in the world during that stretch. The only two cuts that he missed were at courses he had struggled on in the past. We don't have to worry about that this week, as he's made 8 of his last 10 cuts here including back-to-back top 35 finishes. The best part is that he's in much better form now than he has been in a very long time. He grades out well in the hole yardage breakdown, he's solid off the tee, he's good with his irons, and he doesn't bleed strokes on and around the greens. While I'm not sure he can win this week (I bet him anyway), I like his chances to outperform salary-based expectations.

Sabbatini Provides Course Profile Value

Sabbs is a bit expensive compared to others on this list but arguably fair. This will be Sabbatini's 9th straight start at Mayakoba, so as you can expect he has seen his fair share of ups and downs. He has 2 Top 5s, 2 MCs and a lot of finishes in between. He has been one of the most consistent performers this year racking up 6 Top 10s, moving himself up to 75th in the world, up from 212th last season. Sabbatini is no bomber, but a precision strategist. What does that mean? He ranks inside the Top 90 on Tour inside of every category except for Driving Distance. He ranks 51st in Approaches from 125-150 yards, a range that will be critical for players this week. I would consider Sabbatini in both GPPs and Single Entry contests, similarly to Harman.

Rory Sabbatini stands out as a great source of value

Rory Sabbatini narrowly missed playing in the Tour Championship last season. For a golfer who struggled to crack the top 100 in FedEx Cup points for the prior three seasons, Sabbatini's performance last season was truly a nice surprise. Sabbatini posted 11 top 25 or better finishes in 27 starts last year. The really impressive part of his 2019 season, was the way Sabbatini finished the year. In his last 7 starts, Sabbatini posted six top 18 or better showings. The strong finish made Sabbatini a DFS roster option for much of the latter part of the season. When you look at prices for this event Sabbatini feels a bit low compared to his recent form. Sabbatini has made 2 of his 3 cuts this season ( counting European Tour) and is in a great spot to play well on a course that could favor his style of golf. With such a big discount in price Sabbatini could easily pay off his salary with a top 25 finish this week.
