Ryon Healy Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Thrower of No-Hitters, Destroyer of Bankrolls

The first thing I want to make clear is that I have lost many dollars stacking against Mike Fiers. Fiers is a tough pitcher to truly predict - he's thrown two no-hitters in his career yet he hasn't posted a SIERA south of 4.25 since 2015. Despite being difficult to project on a single game basis, I continue to target Fiers in tournaments because of his propensity to give up the long ball. Fiers has already given up eight HRs this season after allowing 32 HRs each of the last two seasons - good for the third most in the league in 2018 and ninth most in 2017. Park aside, this remains a good power matchup for Seattle power hitters and HR is king when stacking.

Highest Flyball Rate on the Slate

Felix Pena has the highest flyball rate on the slate tonight (min 10 IP) with a 50% rate in 2019. Given the recent talk of balls being juiced, it seems advantageous to target flyball pitchers, especially flyball pitchers that are bad. In addition to his FB rate, Pena has a 5.67 xFIP and 41.2% hard contact rate compared to a 0% soft contact rate on the year. Pena gets the start vs. Seattle tonight, whose offense has hit RHP well: Dan Vogelbach (.436 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Edwin Encarnacion (.353), Ryon Healy (.327) and Jay Bruce (.321) are all potential options tonight. Mitch Haniger (.279) has not seen much success yet this year but has a career .356 wOBA vs. RHP. Mallex Smith (.264 xwOBA vs. RHP this year) is always a threat for a steal and should see his usual leadoff spot. Seattle has a 4.41 implied total vs. Pena and the Angels.

Cheap Little Pop

A drum that I beat a lot at the beginning of the season was that while SafeCo is certainly a pitcher's park, it has been more or less neutral in terms of power over the last few seasons. Power is something Ryon Healy possesses when he has a platoon advantage like he will Friday night against Martin Perez. Healy is the owner of a career .191 ISO versus southpaws and is a cheap way to get a little pop in your lineup.

Cost Effective Exposure

You're going to want to have exposure to this SEA/TEX game and Ryon Healy is one of the most cost effective ways to do it. Both teams have an implied run total of 5+ runs as Arlington provides the best offensive environment of the night. I am more interested in the game environment than I am with Ryon Healy's skill-set but Healy has shown a little bit of power with a .189 ISO throughout his career. Healy's numbers are better against southpaws and he should see a couple of ABs against LHP as this is a bullpen game for a Rangers team that is loaded with lefty pitchers.

Jean Segura scratched Thursday; Ryon Healy replaces

Segura has been scratched from the Mariners original confirmed lineup and will not start in Thursday’s matchup against the Oakland Athletics due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Ryon Healy, who will play first base and slot into the sixth spot in the order, which bumps Denard Span all the way up to the two-hole, while Kyle Seager moves up one batting position to fifth and Robinson Cano slides down to third respectively, respectively. It goes without saying that there have been some noteworthy changes to this Mariners order, so be sure to check out the updated lineup on the Starting Lineups page as they face off against right-hander Frankie Montas on the road this evening.

Chalky Stack

The Mariners are likely to be one of the chalkier stacks on Tuesday's slate and rightfully so. Seattle gets a massive park shift in their favor with this game being played in Arlington and they get a great matchup to boot against Bartolo Colon. Bartolo is a stackers dream - a pitcher that not only allows a lot of contact (13.6 K%) but a lot of hard contact (42.3 Hard%). Temperatures are once again expected to be in the high 90's as Arlington continues to be a hitters haven as the summer progresses.

Take Advantage On FanDuel

This FanDuel price on Ryon Healy will likely make him one of the most popular options over there tonight. His numbers have been down against lefties this season, but when facing a lefty with a low strikeout rate, I tend to look more at CXwOBA than wOBA. While his wOBA is .302, his CXwOBA is .434 against lefties. In 179 PAs against righties this season, Martin Perez has a .437 wOBA with a .221 ISO and a 32.1% hard to soft contact ratio. I love attacking Seattle bats when they're on the road, and they're getting a massive ballpark upgrade tonight.

Ryon Healy scratched Wednesday; Zach Vincej replaces

Healy has been scratched from the Mariners original confirmed lineup and will not start in Wednesday’s matchup against the Houston Astros due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Zach Vincej, who will play third base and slot into the ninth spot in the order, which bumps Cameron Maybin and Mike Zunino up one batting position to fifth and sixth, respectively, while Guillermo Heredia vaults up to seventh and Andrew Romine shifts over to first base defensively. It goes without saying that there have been some noteworthy changes to this Mariners order, so be sure to check out the updated lineup on the Starting Lineups page as they face off against left-hander Dallas Keuchel at home this afternoon.

Find the Power

James Shields has been very respectable for the White Sox this season, and DFS players are starting to back off on stacking against him. When you combine that with the west coast start here, the Mariners might get over-looked quite a bit this evening. Cruz, Haniger, and Healy all own ISO marks north of .200 this season, and they offer the most power upside of the group. I probably won't do a five-man full stack here, but this is a fine spot for a mini-stack or a GPP one-off play.

Finally Showing Signs of Life

The Mariners have lost the first two games of this series against Texas, but they are finally starting to show some signs of life offensively. They scored six runs on Wednesday and draw a fine matchup here against Mike Minor, who has been decent this year but still struggles against RHBs, as he has allowed a .380 wOBA to them this season. Ryon Healy and Mitch Haniger are fine one-off plays with their power potential against LHP, and my bold call is that Nelson Cruz gets on track with a pair of long balls tonight. Fire up the Mariners as a sneaky late-night stack if you like.
