Sammie Coates Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Sammie Coates (hamstring) and DT Danny Shelton (calf) inactive Sunday

Coates will remain inactive for the Cleveland Browns' matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals this afternoon after previously being listed on the injury report as questionable with a hamstring injury. His absence in conjunction with Corey Coleman's should allow Kenny Britt to remain the number passing option on the outside after being peppered with 10 targets in last week's game. That said, he was horribly inefficient with those targets and his day was salvaged by a late touchdown reception. The Bengals typically do an outstanding job of locking down the perimeter which makes Britt an overall unappealing target in a spot where his team's implied total sits comfortably under the 20-point mark.

Sammie Coates (hamstring) and Myles Garrett (ankle) are practicing Thursday, DT Danny Shelton isn't participating

Head coach Hue Jackson said Garrett may be able to play Sunday. It seems like a long shot but his return to practice implies he has a solid chance to return next week if he's ultimately ruled out for Week 4. Coates was inactive this past weekend, if he suits up Sunday, he'll be buried on the depth chart and won't be a strong fantasy target. Shelton is dealing with some type of injury but the team hasn't released any details yet.

Sammie Coates and DE Myles Garrett inactive Sunday

LB Jamie Collins was ruled out earlier this week with a concussion. Newly-promoted Jordan Leslie will take Coates' place on the active roster at receiver against the Colts this afternoon.

Sammie Coates (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday

Coates couldn't catch any of his four targets in Week 2. He's currently dealing with a hamstring issue that could keep him sidelined for their matchup with the Colts on Sunday. Even if he plays, he'll be their WR4 at best.

Kenny Britt may not start for Browns, Sammie Coates and Kasen Williams expected to play more in Week 2

Head coach Hue Jackson wouldn't commit to Britt starting in Week 2, saying that it depends on what type of personnel package they use to start their game against the Ravens. Jackson remains displeased with Britt's dropped ball in the fourth quarter against the Steelers last weekend. The receiver was wide open for a first down with 11:30 remaining in a 21-10 game when he failed to haul in a nice pass from DeShone Kizer, ultimately leading to a punt two plays later. He finished with just one reception for 13 yards on three targets in a disappointing debut with his new team. Even if he doesn't get an official "start," he should still get a similar workload overall - he played 52 of their 66 snaps in Week 1. Fellow receiver Coates didn't get on the field for a single play and Williams only got out there for 12. Apparently, Jackson is committed to increasing their workload this week. While Coates has big-play potential, he won't be a very appealing fantasy target. Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer spread the ball around quite a bit in Week 1, targeting eight receivers at least twice, but he showed a preference towards Corey Coleman, who led the team with six targets. The second-year wideout efficiently caught five of them for 53 yards and a touchdown. Kizer also hit tight end Seth DeValve for four receptions and 42 yards on five targets. They'll have a difficult spot this week against a Ravens pass defense that picked off Andy Dalton four times in Week 1 while limiting him to 170 scoreless yards.

Ladarius Green and Sammie Coates practice in full Wednesday

Green is fully expected to clear concussion protocol in time to play Miami on Sunday. It's a nice matchup for him. While the Dolphins rank 4th against WR1s and WR2s in DVOA, they rank 21st against tight ends. The Dolphins allowed the 7th-most FanDuel points per game to tight ends this season. Over the three games prior to his concussion he averaged a 4.3/69.0/0.3 line and went over 100 yards against the Giants (26th TE DVOA). He currently projects as our TE2 on the wild card slate. Coates caught two total passes after Week 5 and won't be a fantasy option this weekend.

Ladarius Green and Sammie Coates INACTIVE Sunday

Green (concussion) and Coates (hamstring) were both listed as doubtful heading into the Steelers Christmas matchup with the Ravens. Jesse James will start at tight end in place of Green while Cobi Hamilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey will take over for Coates' snaps. Of course, they're all very risky options as the majority of targets will go to Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and to a lesser extent, Eli Rogers. Brown and Bell have combined for over 50% of Pittsburgh's total receptions. Baltimore's best corner, Jimmy Smith, is inactive, which places Brown in an excellent spot. Both he and Bell will surely come with high ownership on the Christmas slate.

Ladarius Green and Sammie Coates both return to full practice Thursday

Green was limited yesterday but he's all set to play Sunday. He told ESPN that the Steelers plan on giving him a bigger workload this weekend. He only played 12 snaps in Week 10 but was targeted four times (he caught three passes for 30 yards). They're 8-point favorites over Cleveland this weekend, so game flow could hurt him. Still, it's an excellent matchup with a team that struggles to cover tight ends, and he could potentially be Ben's second favorite receiving target behind Antonio Brown. He'll be competing with Eli Rogers for that role, while Sammie Coates won't hold too much fantasy value if any at all. Despite Coates returning to full practice, he's been demoted behind Cobi Hamilton and is dealing with two broken fingers on the same hand.

Sammie Coates has second broken finger

Coates only played two snaps in Week 10 after breaking another finger on his left hand. There was speculation heading into the game that Coates had been demoted, which turned out to be true, although that was partially due to his injuries. Cobi Hamilton will be the third receiver while Darrius Heyward-Bey is out. He only had one target against the Cowboys though, so he won't be relevant in fantasy. Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell will continue to get all the work they can handle, while Eli Rogers should see an uptick in production (he had a 4/42/1 line against Dallas). Tight end Ladarius Green had three receptions for 30 yards in his first game with the Steelers, and he could be a sneaky option next week against the terrible Browns' pass defense.

Ben Roethlisberger removed from injury report

It's good news for Roethlisberger as it means he's nearing full health. Pittsburgh has Dallas at home this weekend, which is another positive sign for Big Ben. He's had some serious home-away splits this season. At home boasts a 122.2 passer rating and 12:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio, but on the road his rating plummets to 74.2 and has a 5:5 ratio. Dallas ranks 17th in pass DVOA. Antonio Brown will have a tough matchup with Brando Carr, who has earned a 81.3 grade from Pro Football Focus. However, he will see Anthony Brown on roughly 41% of his snaps. Brown has earned a score of 71.2, but he's allowed 0.46 fantasy points per route run, which is fourth-most among starting cornerbacks. Sammie Coates will run against Brown nearly half the game, and he has plenty of tournament appeal this weekend. Coates is second in the NFL in yards per catch with a 21.3 average.
