Scott Darling Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Although shot volume is a concern, this goalie should get the win
Scott Darling was awful last season for the Carolina Hurricanes, and so far this season, he has been mediocre (3.09 GAA, .904 SV%), but he has had some tough matchups - home to Boston, away to Vegas, and away to Chicago. Darling's matchup is great against a thin Detroit team that edged the New York Rangers last night on Dylan Larkin's goal with five seconds left in overtime. Darling is priced up on DraftKings where he is $8,200 and rates as a poor value, but on FanDuel ($7,500) where the win is worth 12 points, Darling makes a lot of sense in cash games given the cheap price tag. While he doesn't figure to see any more than 25 shots, Darling should contain the Red Wings' offense and get the win.
Ride this goalie on a night with few options
Scott Darling has been a disappointment this season after playing so well in Chicago, especially at 5-on-5. Yet, tonight he draws a magnificent matchup against a Vancouver Canuck team playing on consecutive nights. Carolina checks in as the heaviest favorite of the night (-200+) despite Darling's struggles. Helping his case will be that the Canucks have just two wins in their last 12 road games. Additionally, the Vancouver Canucks sport the National Hockey League's third-worst xGF/60 (2.02). They will find nothing easy tonight, especially since Carolina is the least-penalized team in the league. Save some salary with Scott Darling.
Top Goalie Tonight?
The Carolina Hurricanes are the biggest favorite on the board tonight as they face an offensively challenged Detroit Red Wings team. The Hurricanes may be playing their second game in as many nights, but that should not stop them from winning their fourth straight game this evening at the PNC Arena. Carolina is a strong possession team, limiting both shots and the scoring chances against, which will make it difficult for a weak Detroit offense (28th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game) to break through tonight. Scott Darling may not see a ton of rubber this evening, but he should easily come away with the win, and he is your best chance at a shutout.
Cheap goalie offers big upside in Raleigh
Scott Darling has had a strange November as he has been either brilliant or awful, as evidenced by allowing a single goal four times, but blowing up for 4, 5, and 6 goals in his other starts. Darling and Carolina will not have an easy opponent as the Nashville Predators have dominated in November, winning nine of their 11 games. However, a closer look reveals they have been quite lucky as their 5-on-5 xGF/60 is second-worst in the Western Conference. Darling has yet to really put it all together for his new team, but it is only a matter of time as Carolina continues to dominate for stretches throughout games. Look for Darling to be on the good side of his inconsistency this afternoon.
Best Bang For Your Buck In Goal Tonight!
You could certainly roster either Matt Murray or Sergei Bobrovsky in either cash games or GPPs tonight, but the goaltender I will likely end up rostering more often than not is the Carolina Hurricanes Scott Darling. The 28-year-old goalie is not only a bargain across the industry ($7,600 on DraftKings and $7,500 on FanDuel), but he has also been playing his best hockey in November, posting a 2.13 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. A win and 30 saves is a strong possibility tonight, making Darling a great option in any format this evening.
GPP Upside Goalie
On a two game slate, conventional goaltender selection should be thrown out the window, instead focusing on goaltender upside. After serving as Chicago's backup each of the past two seasons, Scott Darling has a new home as the starting netminder in Carolina. Darling has had quite an interesting career path after being kicked off his college team because of substance abuse, but he has persevered and has made the most of his second chance in the NHL. Checking in at 6'6, Darling is a massive presence in net and will be taking on a Dallas team that takes plenty of shots each game but ranks in the middle of the pack in scoring on the road this season. With many likely clamoring to roster Jake Allen on the road, Darling makes for a solid pivot in tournaments with the potential to carry you to the top of a GPP assuming Carolina can get him enough goal support to emerge with the victory.
No place like home for this goaltender
Scott Darling is one of the best bargains of the evening as he will guard the crease against his old team. The Chicago Blackhawks are living on purely their name at this point, as they have struggled mightily, particularly in November where they are averaging just 1.50 goals per game. Joel Quenneville has experimented with guys on different lines, but the problems have not disappeared. Chicago will not have it any easier tonight as Carolina is the most-disciplined team in the National Hockey League. Darling will also not have to contend with Corey Crawford, as backup Anton Forsberg will get the start. Look for Scott to make 30-plus saves and get the best of his old team.
New acquisition eyes continued success
Scott Darling and the Hurricanes will make a stop in Arizona tonight to take on the worst team in the National Hockey League. The Arizona Coyotes are an embarrassing 1-12-1 on the season and will have their hands full with a Carolina Hurricane team that took 60 shots on goal in a loss last time out. There will be no gifts for the Coyotes as Carolina is the most disciplined team in the league for the second straight season. Scott Darling has tamed the Coyotes in his career as the ex-Blackhawk is 2-0-1 in three appearances, allowing just two goals on 53 shots. Scott is particularly cheap on FanDuel where he checks in at a mouth-watering $7,600 salary.
Home goalie in great spot for the win
Darling and the Hurricanes are in an advantageous spot today against a banged-up Anaheim team that figures to start Ryan Miller on the tail-end of a back-to-back. Darling has had a mediocre start to the season, but he is one of the better net minders in the National Hockey League. Darling and Carolina check in as the biggest favorite of the slate (-170). Carolina’s scoring has been relatively inconsistent, as we saw them struggle against the Lightning and Blues, but they did pot six goals in Toronto. Anaheim’s 2.09 5v5 xGF/60 in all situations ranks fourth-worst, and it is hard to see them putting more than two goals past the rock-solid Scott Darling. Affordable on all fantasy sites, Scott Darling is the recommended option in net tonight across all formats.
