Scottie Scheffler Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Shaking Off the Rust

I wrote up Scheffler last week, but was concerned when I saw his pre-tournament comments after testing positive for COVID. He said he felt good about his form, but thought it might take a few reps to shake off the rest. After shooting a round of one-over par in the first round, I was worried about him missing the cut. He luckily played well over the next three days and worked his way up into a tie for 37th. Before his forced break, he finished in the top 25 in six straight events. And make no mistake about it, those were some of the strongest fields that we’ve seen all year. He’s an elite ball striker, he’s better around the greens than you might expect, and bentgrass has been his best putting surface in his young career. I’ll go back to the well at a discounted price point.

Best Golfer in the Field

I’m not particularly high on the $9,000 range (on DraftKings) this week and that’s where the most of the chalk is coming from. I am now pivoting to a two stud approach, so I am taking Denny McCarthy out of the core plays and adding in Scheffler to go along with Im. Scheffler was forced to withdraw from the U.S. Open after getting COVID, but was on an absolute tear in his previous six events. His worst finish was T22 and he gained at least 4.5 strokes with the ball striking in his last five before the U.S. Open. I’m not sure how COVID will affect him, but Harris English got it and he didn’t slow down one bit. Scheffler is the best golfer in the field (not particularly close according to my model) and the duo of him and Im will be low owned. They might be popular individually, but not together.

Five Minutes to roster lock at the U.S. Open, no major news to report

With just under five minutes until roster lock, there is no major news to report ahead of the U.S. Open. ResultsDB will be up and running a few minutes after lock. Good luck this week grinders.

Scottie Scheffler test positive for COVID-19, will miss the U.S. Open

News broke this evening that standout rookie Scottie Scheffler has tested positive for COVID-19. Scheffler will be replaced in the field by Branden Grace. Scheffler is reportedly asymptomatic and will remain quarantined at his home in Dallas, Texas.

Bryson DeChambeau returns to the site of his U.S. Amateur win

Bryson DeChambeau took to Instagram today as he returns to the site of perhaps his biggest win in the world of golf. DeChambeau won the 2015 U.S Amateur at Olympia Fields and will look to build on his past experiences for this week's BMW Championship. With a revamped game that now exploits his ability to hit the ball as far as possible, it will be interesting to see how DeChambeau plays this course in comparison to his first visit at Olympia Fields. DeChambeau will not be the only golfer in the field from the 2015 U.S Amateur. Other notable names in this week's field that played in the 2015 U.S. Amateur are also tagged in this post. Jon Rahm lost in the round of 16 narrowly missing out on a chance to win his first USGA event.

Scottie Scheffler looks to get his season back on track

Scottie Scheffler started out the year as a darling of the DFS golf world. Fueled by 4 top ten or better finishes in his first nine starts this year, Scheffler looked in a great position to earn his first PGA Tour win. Since the restart, Scheffler has not played up to the golf he displayed earlier in the season. Having only made 2 out of 5 cuts since the restart, Scheffler has fallen out of favor with many in the DFS community. Playing in his second WGC event of his career Scheffler at a discount stands out as a great value play for the week. While he is not exactly the ideal play for single entry type tournaments, Scheffler has more than enough upside to be a difference-maker in large field GPP's.

Five Minutes to roster lock at The RBC Heritage and no major news to report

Outside of a few early-week withdrawals, there is no major news to report ahead of this week's event. Kevin Na, Scottie Scheffler, and Cameron Tringale should all be removed from your player pools this week. In terms of the weather, we could see the morning wave on both Thursday and Friday have a slight advantage as winds are expected to increase in the afternoon each day. Overall the edge is not big enough to stack either tee time wave, but you could look to play early morning golfers in showdown slates. Good luck this week grinders. ResultsDB will be up and running shortly after lock.

Scottie Scheffler is no longer in the field

Scottie Scheffler has pulled out of this week's event. At this time there is no injury news associated with Scheffler's choice to not play this week. Just like Kevin Na from earlier in the week, there will not be an alternate added to the field.

Possibly the Most In-Form Golfer in the Field

Scheffler was close to being a core play and could very well end up being in my main lineup. Ultimately, I’ll wait and see what his projected ownership looks like. I like him as a play this week, but wouldn’t be quite as high on him if he’s going to be one of the highest owned golfers. We always talk about form when it comes to golf and Scheffler is one of the only golfers that has teed it up during the break. He’s played in two events in Texas and has finished first and second. He’s from Dallas and has been inching closer to his first PGA Tour win.

Scottie Scheffler set to make his WGC debut

Making a WGC event in your first full year as a rookie on the PGA Tour is not an easy task. Currently ranked just outside the top 50 in the world and looking to build on what has been a successful start to the season Scottie Scheffler will make his WGC debut this week. Priced-down in this very strong field, Scheffler stands out as a great source of value for the first WGC event of the 2020 calendar year. Prior to missing two out of the last three cuts, Scheffler started out the 2020 season off on a hot streak by posting six top 20 or better finishes in his first eight starts. With more than enough upside to payoff his low price for the week, Scheffler's value rises due to the fact that this is a non-cut event.
