The final core play for me this week is Mr. Straka, who has been very popular in the DFS community over the last few weeks. Anytime a golfer strikes the ball well for a few tournaments in a row, DFS players will quickly pick up on him because like myself, many are constantly studying ball striking trends. While I expect him to garner ownership this week, hopefully a missed cut will keep it at a reasonable level. He's not a good putter, but like Niemann, he actually gains strokes putting on the field when he's on bentgrass. He has gained strokes off the tee in seven of his last eight events and he has gained strokes on approach in seven of his last eight events. Scrambling here shouldn't be an issue for anyone, so it really comes down to his putter.

The increased price tag (particularly on DK & FDRAFT) might have some people shying away this week, especially since Straka has as many missed cuts as made cuts this season. However, he is absolutely trending in the right direction with four made cuts in his last five starts, with the only missed cut being one where he missed on the number. Straka is coming off four straight under par rounds and a solid 11th place finish in Detroit where he gained strokes everywhere, and his ball striking rank is now up to 23rd for the year. I’m riding the momentum with Straka as a great value despite his price bump, and he remains a steal at a very affordable $8,700 price tag on FD.

Sepp continues to get my attention, similar to the Homa MC last week, if you dig a bit deeper Sepp maintained his strong GIR and SG:APP numbers, ranking 5th in the field, but lost nearly 6 strokes putting. I just can’t pass on him this week. His ball-striking has been so solid for much of the summer and on this Donald Ross design where approach shots really are critical, and putting a little less differentiating, I think Sepp can get into contention in Round 1 and stay there for the remainder of the week.

Sepp continues to pump out big performances and last week was no disappointment with a 28th place finish at the US Open. His results this year have been largely dependant on his irons, as he shows to be one of the best drivers on Tour. Just looking through his stats, it is hard to see a big red flag. His iron game was not “elite” last week but still managed to hit 42% of his approaches inside 24 ft. For a value guy with the consistency he has shown the past month, sign me up.
