Sergio Garcia Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Sergio Garcia to miss The Masters

Sergio Garcia will miss this week's Masters due to a positive COVID test this morning. Garcia took to social media this morning to announce that he tested positive. Garcia will miss his first major championship in 21 years. There are no field replacements for the Masters.

Sergio Garcia needs a good week in order to make the playoffs

With the Wyndham Championship being the last event before the FedEx Cup playoffs, there will be plenty of pressure for those outside of the top 125. Sergio Garcia is one of the sixty-nine golfers in this week's field who currently need to play their way into next week's Northern Trust. Currently, in the 134th position on the FedEx Cup list, Garcia is less than 40 points from being inside the top 125. Despite a very disappointing missed cut at last week's PGA, Garcia has both the skill set and course history to feel good about this week. In addition to being a past champion of this event, Garcia has finished inside the top 30 in his other 4 starts at Sedgefield.

Betting on Talent at Low Ownership

I’m pretty sure I haven’t written up Garcia in this article since before he won the Masters a couple years ago. His form has really tailed off since, especially on the PGA Tour. While he’s far from a core play this week, it will be very easy to be overweight on him compared to the field in MME. He missed the cut on the number last week, which can’t be held against him. He’s one of the better Pete Dye golfers in the field, as he’s gained the 10th most strokes of anyone over the last 50 rounds. Similar to Day and Oosty, we are betting on talent at a discounted price and ownership.

Sergio Garcia set to make his 2020 PGA Debut

Typically at this point in the season, we start to see players who split time between the European Tour and The PGA Tour spend more time in the states. With both WGC events and Major Championships starting to itch closer and closer on the schedule, the strength of field for events like this week's Genisis Open really starts to sand out with the addition of players like Sergio Garcia. Playing in his first event of the 2020 season, Garcia stands out as one of the better value-priced golfers on the slate. Historically a great ball striker, Rivera is the type of course that Garcia has played well in the past ( 3 career top six or better finishes). Garica is never really a popular option for DFS and even with a low price, you can expect to gain some ownership leverage as well as potential upside by rostering this former major champion this week. With a handful of strong finishes on the European Tour over the last few months, Garica comes into this week in good form.

Sergrio Garcia to debut new clubs this week

Sergio Garcia has decided to start the 2020 season as an equipment free agent. Garcia confirmed in a pre-tournament interview that he and Callaway golf mutualy split at the end of December. For now, Garcia has decided to remain a free agent and will play Ping irons and Taylormade wedges in Abu Dhabi. A future return to Callaway golf is not out of the cards for Garcia, as both he and the company seemed to have parted with no hard feelings. On an unrelated note, fellow European Tour player Matthew Wallace will join Callaway staff this season after signing a 3-year endorsement deal.

Ten minutes to roster lock and no major news to report

There is no major news to report ahead of the final WGC event of the season. Looks like we will have perfect weather for golf this in Memphis. Good luck this week. ResultsDB will be up and running within 15 minutes of roster lock. Make sure to check out how your lineups stack up against the field.

Sergio Garcia enters this week searching for answers in major championships

The weight of the best player in the world to have never won a major championship is something that Sergio Garcia carried with him for a long time. With his 2017 Masters win, Garcia was able to finally shed that label. Many in the golf world thought that such a win would propel Garcia to perhaps contend and challenge for more major wins in the future. Unfortunately for Garcia that has not been the case, entering this week, he has missed six consecutive cuts in majors. Still, a very talented player, Garcia comes into this week at a great discount and has the skill set needed to play well at Bethpage Black. With a 4th and a 10th place finish at the two previous majors held at Bethpage Black, Garcia plays the style of golf needed to succeed this week. Total driving will be key this week, and Garcia is both accurate and long off the tee. Always known as an elite ball striker, Garica hits his long irons as well as anyone in the game, and it appears that even the longest of hitters will have plenty of long approaches this week. Priced down due to his poor recent play in Major Championships, the talent and course history that Garcia brings to the table makes him a great value option this week.

Sergio Garcia looks to put last years disappointing performances in major championships behind him

Returning to Augusta National as a champion did not go as planned for Sergio Garcia. After dumping several approach shots into the water on the 15th hole, Garcia posted an eye-raising score of 13 on the hole en route to missing the cut. Unfortunately for one of the newest member of the first time major championship winners club, the hangover from Augusta carried over through the next three majors as Garcia missed the cut in all four majors for the first time in his career. A year removed from his title defense, Garcia has the game and skill set worthy of roster consideration this week. As one of the more consistent ball strikers on tour, it's no surprise to see Garcia near the top in terms of strokes gained tee to green of players in this field. Reasonably priced across the industry, Garcia has more than enough upside to pay off his salary for the week.

Let's Avoid the 13s on the Scorecard this Year

Kuchar has made more headlines with his antics than his play recently, but he has quietly strung together some nice finishes on tour. In case you don’t remember, he won this event two years ago and was well on his way to another solid finish before posting a 13 on the par five here last year. His tee to green game has been terrific over the last couple of months and while he’s not a great putter, he knows how to putt on these lightning fast bentgrass greens. The price is very reasonable for a golfer with winning upside.

Longest Made Cut Streak at TPC Sawgrass

It feels strange having Sergio headline my picks this week given how many elites are teeing it up this week, but he’s the only golfer in the field that has made every single cut here in the last 10 years. The next longest streak belongs to Adam Scott at seven straight cuts. Garcia went through that poor stretch of golf last season, but turned it around overseas and has brought that over to North America. In his three starts on this side of the pond, he has gained 20 strokes on his approaches. Despite losing strokes putting during that stretch, he has managed to post two top ten finishes.
