Shane Lowry Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Shane Lowry not listed in the field
Current champion golfer of the year Shane Lowry is not listed in the field for this week's WGC event. Lowry has a price for all major sites, but it appears he will not play this week. No official news has been released to announce Lowry not playing in this week's event, but we should have confirmation later today when tee times are released. UPDATE. Shane Lowry has officially withdrawn from the event. Lowry will not be replaced and The WGC FedEx St. Jude's will instead play with 63 golfers.
Weather update for The Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Kevin Roth's weather report for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am is up in the main forum and it looks like an overall ugly week for golf. Due to the size of the field and the three-course rotation, it's really hard to gain an edge in terms of stacking a tee time wave. We can, however, look at the overall weather pattern and try to pick players who should benefit the most from playing in tough conditions. The forecast is going to be cold wet and windy from Friday through Sunday, with the worst of the weather taking place on Friday. Players who are excellent ball strikers, and or excel at short game typically play well when the weather gets bad. While it's hard to pick a player solely on weather, you should use the weather as more of a tiebreaker if needed for the week.
Shane Lowry flying under the radar
Priced up due to his solid recent play, Shane Lowry could go under-owned in comparison to other big named players in the same price range. Searching for his first PGA Tour win since the 2015 Bridgestone Invitational, Lowry has a fair amount of incentive to play well this week. Currently ranked in the 139 position in the FedEx Cup standings, Lowry needs a great week if he has plans on extending his PGA Tour season. Looking to build on three straight top 15 or better finishes, Lowry heads into the most important part of the season with great form. Currently projected to have sub 8% ownership and sandwiched between other popular players in his price range, Lowry could end up being a great GPP pivot play option.
Good Form, Loves the U.S. Open, and Sub-5% Ownership
On last week’s show, I mentioned that I liked Lowry at the St. Jude Classic, but that I liked him even more at the U.S. Open. He has quietly been rounding into form after seemingly disappearing for a year. He has made five straight cuts on tour and has gained at least five strokes tee to green in three of those events. He loves links-style golf and he seems to love the U.S. Open. He nearly won in 2016 and posted another top ten in 2015. He should be very low owned, even though he’s a much safer play than most of the golfers in this price range. If the wind picks up, that will only make me like Lowry even more.
